I know what response I'll get, but is it really embarrassing for Hibs, who've generally bobbed around mid-table-Championship, to have lost more often than not to us, considering we were one the best teams in the country for around a decade and most of our meetings have likely come in that timeframe?

The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread

Do you genuinely think I'm jealous of you being in the top half? If your squad is struggling to cope with "anxiety" over finishing 5th then I'd be concerned massively by that. Managers in the top six should be brave and baws oot to achieve the most they possibly can. Settling for 6th as fine when there's literally nothing to lose is pathetic. -

Dundee United 23/24

It's complicated. He was a key player and I can't remember any injuries until November 2021, which he was inexplicably started against Celtic at Hampden 2 days after being in Japan for a friendly with Canada. Unsurprisingly he got injured and that was him until about September 2022, when it was kind of clear his prep was all about being fit and available for the World Cup in November. After that he never really played much again as Callum Davidson flailed wildly about chucking shite at the wall trying to make something work by changing things every week. MacLean came in and was faced with having to eviscerate the squad Davidson built (30+ senior players, £1.8m loss) to make us sustainable again, and when two of the higher earners are 30+ and playing the same squad role (Carey, Wotherspoon), and one is out of contract and one isn't, then he didn't have much choice but to let him go really. -

Chasing VAR out of Scotland
RandomGuy. replied to HibsFan's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
The fact they can't accurately capture the correct frame for the ball leaving a players foot is 100% fact, and you doubting it makes your entire post worthless. Cameras aren't quick enough to capture every single millisecond of play, so more often than not there will be a frame missing of the moment the ball is hit. When you're going to centimeters measurement wise it makes all the difference. It's why they're going to automated systems for offsides at the top level. Everything will be tracked and measured individually by 30+ cameras, so a model simulation of the game will take place a fraction of a second slower than the real thing, and they can use that model to show everyone's position the exact moment the ball leaves a players foot. We'll not be able to afford that, obviously, so we'll be stuck with a shite outdated VAR system and our refs can't even use the excuse its to help them get UEFA/FIFA gigs, as using a different system means they'll ruled out. -

Aye thats what it was like with us. His general gingerness and overall appearance, combined with his style of play, kind of forces you into thinking hes just a reliable player who lacks something in attack but won't let you down in defence. Then you slowly start to see how little he gives you on the ball and how often he'll lose his man, particularly when defending the back post. -

Was looking through these for Saints players and interesting that Brown remains unable to contribute in attack, and is still poor in defence. Has he been this bad? And do you have people convincing themselves hes good defensively entirely because hes not good offensively and they're deluding themselves? -

By the sounds of things McPake isn't the only part time, formerly full time, young player whos been allowed to join us training when his current club have a day off. We've been short in numbers for a variety for reasons so the extra numbers helps us too. -

I always wonder how the dressing rooms work. Do Inter have one, and Milan have one, and they use them regardless of whos home or away?, or is there just a generic "home" dressing room and whoever is designated as the home team uses it? Same for other teams. Does a team playing away against Inter use a different dressing room than when away to AC Milan?

Okay to ask how our four loanees got on? Bailey Klimionek, Joe Ellison, Scott Bright, and Jackson Mylchreest.

Does it have an electric handbrake? Today learned someone got an MG sunroof "repaired" by Arnold Clark. Car there over a month and returned to them with bird shite on their seats and soaking wet carpets. Still stunned anyone uses them for repairs tbh. We had someone with a Vauxhall that shuts down and won't start when hot. Declined our offer of sending the ECU (which was showing as the fault after a 2 minute computer check) away fro testing, as they wanted it taken to the "dealer", which turned out to be Arnold Clark. 6 weeks and £1000 later its still not fixed (they've not touched any ECU apparently, the costs are entirely labour costs) and they've been told by the "master tech" to disconnect the battery with the ignition on every time the car dies, and it should start and run again for a bit.

It was worse than that. He wanted a 16 team League Two, with Celtic and Rangers "Colts" in it and allowed to be promoted, and no relegation for 2 years. -

I'd guess you had to make concessions to get him in the first place, tbh. There was top flight interest. -

Bear in mind he was offered the Dundee job less than a year ago. I assume he chose Queens Park as he felt it was a side massively underperforming, so he could come in and save them easily, then he'd have a club with a lot of money to spend who are a bit of a shambles and he'd be given free reign to do what he wants signing wise. There's zero chance Paton stays with Queens Park if they're relegated, I wouldn't be stunned if he moved this Summer even if they stay up. -
Dundee United 23/24
RandomGuy. replied to MeadowArab's topic in Scottish Championship General Chatter
Yeah he was kind of signed and heralded as a "blood and snotters" type of CB, and I was never sure if his struggles were just because he came into a struggling shambles of a side more than anything about his quality. It's something I think you can work around, but i think it's under rated how much more physical/mobile top flight strikers are. Folk like Simon Murray and Jordan White just kind of destroyed him as a duo. -

He could possibly think he could brush the relegation off as inevitable due to the squad/situation he inherited, and it wouldn't be a huge black mark on his CV considering the double is still fresh in people's memories. Get out now and look for a better job rather than try to manage in the 3rd tier and potentially fail, which would be enough to put people off despite the double. -

Likely still a few years from him impacting our first team meaningfully, but nice to see some real promise here. He reminded me so much of Callum Hendry the few times I've seen him, but just lacked the experience of senior football to deal with, earlier this season.
