  2. There were similar warnings about when we signed Michael McKenna and his disciplinary record at Berwick Rangers in that he seemed to red-carded every other game but in our time with us he has only been sent off once, and it was a dodgy second yellow card for an apparent "dive." I think McKenna has been one of Dick's best signings It's hard to gauge how a player is going to fair at a new club and especially with pre-season fixtures but Wilson has settled in well and stuck to the basics. He looks taller than any of our players and relatively young compared to our other defenders. With TOB suspended for the opening day of the season it's crucial we have someone signed who knows the players and the way we play and I'm sure he is bound to chip in with a few goals from set pieces.

  8. We will have to dream of a good cup draw in the Irn-Bru Cup to Wales or Ireland. I just can't see those days ever happening again with part-time clubs unless you have a super rich benefactor. Part-time players aren't going to get more days off work and the club's not going to pay for coaches and hotels for 20+ people for a match they won't make any money from. Friendlies at Gayfield bring in more money for the club to help run it and give Dick a bigger budget. Best chance of an away fixture is if the team ever play a friendly at the end of season in Magaluf!
  9. His best bet is contacting Queen of the South or BBC or STV. It mentions it in this report in the Scotsman. https://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/goram-in-over-his-head-but-lyle-saves-the-day-1-1377352 Game was QoS 2-2 Arbroath; Saturday 28th September 2002 - 17 years ago and Swankie was playing in it! https://www.skysports.com/football/q-of-south-vs-arbroath/28683

  14. John Baird vs the Raith Rovers diving squad - Dull game apart from the 4 minutes of chaos! Definitely more action in the stands; but images from the game here - https://www.flickr.com/photos/scotsman_in_hawaii/albums/72157708404155145 My second favourite photograph I've taken at Station park this season

  17. Our form true hasn't been the greatest, but I think to say Dumbarton and Stenhousemuir are two of the poorest sides is really unfair to both sides. Whilst ultimately your league position is what you are judged on, Dumbarton, Forfar and Stenny are the three form teams in the league. Dumbarton have 14 points out of their last 18 and Stenhousemuir have only suffered one defeat since their cup match against Aberdeen, which was to Forfar who are also on an incredible run of form. Stenhousemuir were only a whisker away from matching Dumbarton's points form until East Fife scored in the 93rd minute. We had our first real injury crisis against Dumbarton with only 2 defenders fit and last week if Bobby had scored his penalty then it would have been a different game, but these things work themselves out over the season. We do need a win but with every single team playing for something in this league there is not one easy game.

  19. I'm not sure you can buy or pay good footballers with no money? If you want really good players to join in this transfer window to help boost our chances, then sadly they don't come free. I'm pretty sure if funds that are raised help bring in 1 or 2 new players who help us push on for the rest of the season nobody will complain come the end of the season.
  20. https://touroftheterraces.wordpress.com/2019/01/09/arbroath-f-c-the-match-programme-9/ Leicesterlichtie gets a wee mention!
  21. Just the quality of the other central midfielders we have in that same position meant he is behind Mark Whatley and David Gold in terms of being our battling midfielder and then for our creative midfielder it would be Gavin Swankie or Ryan McCord. Everyone who played in the Edinburgh City match had a stinker but he came on as a substitute in our opening game of the season against Montrose and his introduction changed the pace of the game. He won a penalty for us minutes after coming on then chipped in with an assist for our 3rd goal. The form of everyone else has meant that he was down the pecking order for league games. I'm sure he will do for Kelty from now until the end of the season.
  22. I believe it was Kane who asked to go on loan to get game time. The move to East Kilbride which were managed by Brian Kerr and Stuart Malcolm (at the time) and challenging at the top of the Lowland League would have been a good one, but I think the commute took much longer than anyone expected. Kane isn't eligible to play for Arbroath until the transfer window reopens. Kane was training with the team (as he does every week) against Edinburgh City but wasn't on the bench. https://www.skysports.com/football/arbroath-vs-edinburgh/teams/402141 He is definitely better than the league is now playing on-loan in but I'm sure scoring goals and getting game time is good for his confidence.
