You answered the problem with him right there in that results were rotten.

One Swallow doth not a summer make.

We were out of the cup as Scarf mentioned yet thanks to QP's feck up we got back in, we scraped Killie and next game was Livingston which we dominated and then Falkirk in the semi.

So to get to the final we played three games.

So from your perspective getting to one cup final overshadows two seasons of Doddsball shite, if you had to sit through what we had to endure you would understand.

Over the two forums we have had just two ICT 'fans' who defended him, all the rest were scathing of his tactics and wanted rid.

I didn't say anything about over shadows, and I'm not arguing that the club were wrong to punt him, far from it. I'm just of the opinion that to say there was such an underachievement is to ignore the two successful stories. The team and manager and coaches did well to overcome Arbroath and get to a play off final which proved a step too far. We know all about that. And got to a cup final. That's a hell of an achievement in any ones book.

To clarify, I'm not disagreeing he needed to be punted, just suggesting his/their tenure isn't as bad as some of you are making out, in terms of achievement, not week to week performance.

You do realise you'll likely pump the Arabs on Saturday then go on a ten game winless run?

We got there on a technicality after being knocked out in the 5th round by a far superior team.

The boy playing made zero difference to the outcome of the result.

If that's how you see it, can't argue with your opinion the player made no difference. But my point remains, caley got to a final. That's still a helluva achievement for a small club.

That certainly was the case under Dodds.

Hopefully with a new man we will move on and put this awful chapter behind us.

Not getting at you personally SandyC but this blows my mind. I totally get that Dodds had run his course and the football and results were rotten but ffs he took you to the final of the Scottish cup. That alone should bring in to question any statement along the lines of his tenure being an "awful chapter" surely? I'd love for us to get to a national final in my lifetime, perhaps that's an indication of how pathetic my ambitions are for my club but that's just me.

For some strange reason, we just don't function against Arbroath.  Against Partick it will be a different game.  Agree that Broadfoot is like being a goal down before we start the game.  If Baird and O'Connor are fit, they should be our centrebacks.  We can manage with Mcgrattan at RB, or arguably Blues, and though it might not be ideal, neither is it as bad as having Broadfoot in the team.  Having Oakley out is a big blow though.  our small squad doesn't allow much leeway for injuries so let's hope at least Quitongo is back and fit.

We have the same problem at the back, though it's never the same player at fault. We are unlikely to keep a clean sheet, with Robbie guaranteed a goal against us, 2-1 'ton is the sensible prediction, but sensible and the championship don't match up well as the 0-3 against Arbroath suggests.

  5. I/we were very impressed with Airdrie in our 2-1 defeat. A very well drilled team with plenty of enthusiasm and creativity, they are many people's outside bet to be second to DU. They were very poor in our LC game at tannadice but seem to have got going since the league started. Dunno if it'll be a factor but Airdrie look the fittest team I've seen so far.

  6. This is pick of the month for me, based solely on last season's encounters mind.

Reading some thistle fan's posts in other sites would have me believe we are doomed to the first division already. The reactionist nonsense is absolutely nuts. We are only three games into a season. We were very good for the first 60 v Raith, also most of the game v DU, the rest of the LC games we were ok in parts and v Airdrie we just didn't get going. Can't comment on our game v hearts but f@ck me, they are third/fourth best in the country, let's not get too panicky losing to them in their own stadium.

QP should win, Thomas seems to be on form, but it's the championship so who can tell. Most importantly I'm expecting outstanding value for money. So a nil nil bore it'll turn out to be.

I didn't think he was man of the match as McMann got past him quite a few times but never put in a good final ball.

However he did play very well considering his age and being out of position and looked class when he had the ball himself.

Hard to read too much into these games, doubt they would have subbed off Watt and Sibbald in a league game but no one failed tonight, Williams was really good defensively but will obviously need to cut out errors like the pass that led to their goal.

Fitzy was really enjoyable tonight, if he can stay fit for the whole season he'll tear it up, looked a bit leaner as well.

Spot on assessment, this could be Fitzy's year. Should be best player in the championship, has all the attributes if his attitude is right he'll be head and shoulders above the rest.

Will Robbie Neilson be in the Tannadice hotseat for the start of the season?

Just my opinion, but having watched Goodwin's teams at Allia and the St Mirren he seems a good coach and judge of players. Doesn't mean he is a good manager though. Also, is he the sole judge of what players your club is buying? Docherty and Holt smell of safety first. They are good championship players so should help get us out of this league? Moult smells of desperation. Not sure Neilson would be an improvement.

Not sure what anyone was expecting.

    We had a crap team.

We’ve released all the least-worst players.

    And signed meh!

This about sums up what we were discussing last weekend. You should be favourites by the country mile to win the championship, size of club, size of support, size of budget. I mean, you don't need to be a pundit to predict United should be favourites? But the evidence of the players you guys have signed do not stink of league winners, more of securing safety. Strange decision making by someone.

You feeling okay? Lot of Patrick fans in here randomly laughing and muttering to themselves about Docherty. Was he not popular then?

He was a great player for us. Got off to a slow start, took a good six months to settle. Last season was his best. He will do a job for you but that's the thing about DU fans, not all but a sizable section are impatient and quick to judge new players. I don't think you'll give him the time he needs to settle.

Same happened with Erskine and we all predicted a number of your fans would be on his back from the start. I really fear for your club, the backroom management of the club is similar to us under JLow. The next owner/custodians will get a fright when they look under the bonnet.

Not saying it will happen, but if your manager/players/owner underestimate this league you'll go down again.

How on earth was the trip on the Thistle player not a penalty? I honestly cannot understand it. Without a doubt, that plus the penalty shootout being at the County fans' end (ostensibly attributed to the police) likely cost Thistle promotion.

I don't disagree with you points, but the main reason that cost us promotion, is of course our bottling inability to manage the game after the penalty. We were still two goals to the good, mentally we came up short. The penalties were the last throw of the dice and we didn't have a strong enough mentality for those. We were even given three chances in the penalties with county players managing to miss when they had the advantage.

No one to blame, it's just the break of the ball. Play that game another 9 times and we'd win, but life's not like that, and football definitely isn't like that. Was a cracking atmosphere, a great day out, and I'd argue a game that had excitement and pretty much everything. Not saying it was pure football but it was great fun, and it takes two teams to make it so.

  12. We had a great day out in Dingwall, always fund rossshire people very friendly. No denying it was a horrid experience and even worse drive home.

As soon as we scored , all six of us, after celebrating realised how fickle football can be a feared a come back.

Any team who are three nil down with twenty minutes to go, no matter the opposition, who recover deserve to win. I feared the worst when some idiots started singing down with united.

That’s a fair load of money the club has lost out on then.

    why not allocated seating?

A few reasons. The ticketing system doesn't allocate a seat and if that was to be changed by IT people it would be costly. The other option would be to have sold printed tickets with seats on those tickets, but again there is needless costs involved.

It might also be the fact that, apart from the point of broken seats already made, Thistle and County only get to share 45% of the gate, after costs are deducted so perhaps the club weren't that "bovvered"?

It was fairly chaotic in section 7 of the JHS but it sorted itself out eventually. All added to a cracking atmosphere.

I see on my Dingwall ticket there are allocated seats but I doubt anyone will pay any attention to that. Should be a cracking atmosphere.

Great to see we’re bringing about 2k up on Sunday.

Have we nearly sold out? I was panicking we wouldn't get tickets as I went to Firhill on Thursday afternoon. I expected a queue but walked in, got them and left. Huge relief. At the point I was told there were around 400 left of a just over 2,000 allocation. Great effort given the distance.

Can't help but feel the club are being held to ransom by bus companies, at £30 a head seems a little steep. Supply, demand, short notice I guess.

  15. Apathetic performance, apathetic support, apathetic club I'm afraid. It all feels stale and predictable. Don't like to see people lose their jobs but the last two games is sackable stuff. If, as a club and support, are happy to see the odd good game in six and float about mid table at best then we are what we are under IMC. Just can't see him achieving anything consistent enough for a promotion push.

It's definitely a concern, didn't see the game live today but just saw the goals on jagzone, don't think you could blame Mitchell for the set piece goals in terms of him being able to stop them, first goal was a free kick "one from the training ground" routine where Fitzpatrick switched off and didn't track his man, and the third goal was an outswinging corner where Milne was beaten to the first ball about ten yards out and also beaten to the the rebound when it hit Tunji / Simon Murray.

However there is an argument that the keeper should be organising the defence at set pieces and to lose around a goal a game on average from them so far this season (higher if you count the games Mitchell played, which contain all of the set piece concessions) isn't great. I said McCall wouldn't chop and change keepers after last season's experience but I think he might for Friday.

He absolutely should. He should have before yesterday, imo. I very much doubt he will as he is a very stubborn and belligerent manager at times. Archie was the same when he was manager. Keep doing the same thing over and over in the premise that at some point it will work🥶

  17. It is way too early to be panicking. It's a disappointing result, were it a disappointing result and performance I might feel differently. Results are going to be up and down all season in this league, there are no "diddy" teams and no guarantee of three points against anyone, not even us.

I do realise there are many in here and in our support in general who either didn't want/ like McCall from the off and others whose patience is being tested but he is there and we need to give him time. He is an experienced manager and for now is the best we have. My concerns are more about the coaching staff and what they are working on for set pieces. All I'm saying is that this is the first bad result, last week was okay but only because we saved a draw late on, but a very successful league cup group. Room for improvement, no need to panic yet.

  18. It's all cloak and mirrors. Personally I can't figure out how, if slow gifts the shares to another group of people, (which may or may not include her), who have not and will not engage with fans, how can they call it a "fan owned club"?

An odious shower if ever there was. A self appointed grandee lording it over the serfs, keeping themselves in power for their own gains. Remind anyone of some one? And even that twat has been cut loose.

Our club has been stolen/is being stolen by a person/persons with no great interest in the club or the fans. No great surprise. Just as things were starting to look brighter on the pitch. Would love to know what the manager thinks of it all.

  19. Just my tuppence worth. What you are getting, and it's from personal experience, is and for me unrivalled in scottish football, outstanding man manager and motivator.  He really is that good. He was the glue at Dundee, QoS, Ross county.

He has, by his own admission, vast experience as a number 2 and coach but not as a number 1. I suspect but don't know for sure he hasn't been in a position to sign his own players before but will have had an input. For those that see that as a negative it may be as him being a head coach he will be given the players to work with but knowing him he will be his own man and will have input if not final say on who he keeps and gets in. I get he won't appeal to all, but if you met him he is one if those people who it is impossible to dislike, imho. He's not boastful, just a very confident person who meets issues head on and won't shy from confrontation or making hard decisions.

He's an open and honest guy and will work as hard as anyone now he's been given what he sees as his chance. And he won't be one of those Jonny come lately s that uses ICT as a stepping stone given he is making a life for himself up there. That said sportsound will miss his, or at least I will miss, "that's for sure" "listen" "get in" "by the way" "let me tell you" and his constant use of "Rich" etc etc

I still maintain the clubs got away with this relatively scot free. It's absolutely disgraceful that Clyde voted to put their players through that schedule. Averaging 2.8 days per game! It would have been worse if not for the EF postponement as well.

It's also disgraceful that the PFA didn't prevent it.

I agree but have to offer that desperate times = desperate measures. I do however think that there must have been a better solution and had Thistle not been promoted I'd probably be seething so success can blind opinion.

I know little to nothing about the internal workings and rules of association laws/regulations and those of UEFA and fifa so I have no doubt these laws prevented a common sense solution, but, I would have thought that when L1 and 2 was temporarily suspended in January why we didn't move to playing the remainder if the season through summer, even into June?

I understand that has impact on clubs for play offs and retaining players and budgets for next season not knowing what league they would be in but am left wondering that in such desperate times extending the season into June to accommodate the shortened season wouldnt have been too difficult. just seem very unfair on players especially the clyde team. Done now I guess and the solution was agreed by all the L 1 and 2 clubs so you would hope the club chairs consulted the managers and players.

  21. I remember listening to sportsound one evening walking my dog. They were discussing the imminent implementation of the premier and lower play offs, and I remember being astounded at such stupidity. Bar some other footballing backwater that had a play off, but was a bold move but many on the show thought it was bonkers and would bring ridicule to the Scottish game. Most agreed it was simply a tactic to appease the lower league cos they were losing an automatic play off. Principally the old div 1 and I remember Alan Preston in particular being very vocal that it was far too weighted towards the 2nd bottom of the then spl. Of course little was discussed about impact on L1 and 2.

What a pri@k am I, the play offs have become more and more exciting over the years. Perhaps it's because of covid and our being denied normal football but the airdrie v Morton final is the pick of them all, including the probable Dundee v killie. I usually root for the underdog, and despite many "scraps" with section b in the 70's and 80's and a historical rivalry between the B and the shed, I'm right behind airdrie. 🥶

We have been dire and as I was about to say that defeat was deserved , along came a duff goalie and the wonderful jack Mckay. How we have managed to be still in against a better footballing team, has me puzzled but relieved. This is going to the fittest team .

Had to go back and find this post this morning. Called it dead right. Sounds w@nkish but football won in this tie. Some skill but loads of heart and fight and unequalled excitement. Shame there had to be a loser, 12 quid well spent.

Hoping airdrie win through against the Morton.
