  1. I wouldn't pull the plug on bullen just yet. The team still look like they're playing for him - and there's always going to be ups and downs in this league.

We have to do everything we can to avoid relegation but I wouldn't be too itchy with the trigger finger. If things don't turn around by January then I'd be looking to bring in a fresh voice.

What's the deal with the keeper btw? And is there any clear word on musonda?

Chalmers off for Rose is special, even for that utter fucking moron.

Chalmers didn't have a kick today, and was very much off the pace, so it wasn't that surprising.

Thought we looked like the better team until caley scored, and then we shat the bed. Billy McKay ripping mccallister a new one changed the game - but arguably we were fucked as soon as stanger went off.

We never really laid a glove on them in the second half. 3-1 probably a fair result in the end.

At least Inverness is a cracking wee city and I've had a lovely night.

Give Zhang a huge title fight against Fury in China.

Should be a comfortable Fury win but I'm buying that PPV.

Aye I want to see the big guy get a pay day.  Dismantling Joyce has surely earned him that.

    Would he defeat AJ?

Always, I’m not sure it’ll last, but happy to have a slice tonight…

ETA, regardless of how poor the start has been we can’t just go back to saying the goal is to just not get relegated.

Surely this season it is?  Relegation would be pretty brutal considering the investment.  Sometimes you have to take a small step back to go forward.

    Can do…

Anyway - that team is a fucking joke.

Rose instead of Amartey and the shitebag option of dropping Stanger over McGinty.

No wanting a singular bit of pace in your front line, on a huge pitch, against a high like is hilarious mismanagement.

I can’t even remember what the bet was! Was it McGinty…

    Bit of humble pie lads?

By f**k did we need that result (although I certainly didn't see it coming).

Maybe it'll spark a wee unbeaten run that can build some confidence.  This season has to be about picking up enough points to stay in the league.  With the new stand and the other off-field improvements, hopefully we'll see some steady growth after that.

    Third fight a nap.

I really can't see it - that was just too one-sided.

Looks like Eubank took him too lightly in January and got himself sorted this time.  Smith wasn't in the fight at any stage.  Outclassed, and I don't know if a third fight would sell.

That's smashing, bud. I appreciate your respect, as paper thin as it may be. I trust you'll equally appreciate my opinion that two teams with such negative styles of play may struggle to do anything worthwhile at a higher level.  Sounds like you both had a rare old time in the Seasides though. So that's nice.

    Airdrie weren't negative today.

In the first half they had a couple of nice passive moves but they obviously wanted United to press, and Goodwin didn't want play that way.

As a result, their best strategy was to stay in the game until the last 15 minutes and then throw everything at it.  They looked like they had an equaliser and they were clearly going for it - hence the keeper being at the half way line.

    I try to be positive.

Its a nice trait to have. More should try it to be honest.

The world's full of so much hate and negativity, a full time Championship team on the West Coast of Scotland should be people's happy place, despite the ups and downs it gives you.

    Directors come, directors go

    Managers come managers go.

    Players come, players go.

Don't take my positivity as accepting 2nd best, not hurting or not caring, far from it.

But the days of me spoiling my weekend and the days after a defeat are long long gone thankfully.

That includes trying to right the wrongs of 90 minutes of football on an anonymous internet forum.

Bucky you win the internet for me with that post.  Superb.

Things look bleak at the moment but things can turn around quickly in this league.

FWIW I don't think Bullen will be let go as he seems to fit in with 'the project'.  Whether that's right or not, time will tell.  I think he deserves a bit of time after a strong season with an average squad last year.

If we can somehow sort the centre of midfield things might improve quickly - as we've got some good attacking options (especially when Murphy returns).

But it's fucking tough right now, so I'm switching off from Ayr and heading out.

  9. Bit of shit game from United, as others have said - very poor in the 2nd half.

Airdrie didn't create much but that clearance off the line was so close.

I thought the tiny fella in midfield did well for Airdrie - looks like a player for the future (when he fills out).

I'm just amazed that Goodwin doesn't try and go all out at home this season.  Surely going baws oot no-one would cope - and maybe tighten up at the back.  Letting Airdrie have the ball and trying to hold on and hit on the break seems a strange tactic to get the fans on side.

    Interesting, who would we lose?
Ashford seems the logical option if anyone is interested in him, as he hasnt really been utilised.

Bryden out on loan seems sensible to me if we find another striker, McKenzie is not a wide player, he could potentially be a casualty?

Depends on what the budget allows us to hold on to ultimately

McKenzie was one of our better players today, I felt.  I don't want him starting every week but he's a very useful squad player.

Can't disagree with Bullen's interview - other than Frankie being iffy in midfield (but he's probably got to praise him playing out of position when we're so short in there).

One good centre mid and we'll be there are there-abouts.

So far it looks a little better this year - Pendlebury and Amartey both definitely have something to offer.

Rose remains to be seen, we’ll get a better idea over the next couple of weeks as opposed to today.

I'm not so sure Pendlebury has much to offer - based on today.

My biggest concern is the middle of the park - although the lack of an effective striker is also worrying.

Rose didn't have much service or support today but he didn't do anything to impress.  We've got plenty of options in wide positions and the defence seems pretty solid (the full backs are not as bad as folk on here make out).

I like that Bullen tried Musonda sitting in front of the back 2 but it didn't really work.  He wants too much time on the ball and all-too-often his instinct is to play backwards - leading to a punt and inevitably losing possession.

McGeady was outstanding until he sold the jerseys with the error that ended the game, and Chalmers looked as good as ever when he came on.  That's where our hopes are - but overall not a great performance.

On the bright side, if yesterday's game hadn't done that tonight's definitely would've. Giving up 6 runs in the last 2 innings when you're winning 7-2 isn't ideal.

Just finished watching it (had it paused).

Unbelievable.  But perfectly sums up the recent shitness.

f**k baseball, I'm sticking with football all winter.

  13. Tonight's Yankee game was the end of the road for me this season.  I've hung on all summer watching as much as I could and if they'd somehow managed to scrape through tonight they would've made it 3 straight wins with Cole tomorrow (maybe) - but that's us done.

1  1/2 starting pitchers for the next month and a batting line-up that's bang average.

    Roll on 2024.

The Mets blowing it all up is such a strange decision.  They should've shed Scherzer and kept Verlander.  f**k knows what they'll do in the off-season.

McKenzie brings nothing to the team at all. Yet another game he was completely anonymous. Rose and bryden next week and another striker is needed we are still lacking a goal threat

    That's just bollocks, mate.

He's not a great player by any stretch but he works extremely hard for the team and can follow instructions in terms of the manager's game-plan.

I don't like the idea of starting him and Bryden but let's not go over the top in ripping our young players.

Aye the Hardy reel will definitely be worth a bit of money. They are almost considered the pinacle of fly fishing reels and the purists wont think twice about dropping a few hundred quid on one of the current ones (I’d love to get myself one but I’m not sure the better half would approve). They really do produce some lovely looking reels and they are very highly regarded. Older ones from the 50s will be highly collectable and if it is in good condition you will make some decent money on that! Again I’d probably hold onto that and store it somewhere where it can’t get damp etc and if you do think about punting it it would probably be worth seeking out a collector of stuff like that rather than selling to someone who is looking to sell it on and make money off of it.

Out of interest do you know what model the reel is?

    It's a 'perfect reel' - 3 1/8 = bought for £25 in the 50s

  16. 4 hours ago, Bring Back Paddy Flannery said:

Personally, that’s something I’d probably hold onto given it’s age. With the technology changing so much over the years, stuff from the 50s may be a bit redundant now, especially when it comes to fly fishing. Are the rods old split cane rods? Like you said there probably isn’t much value in them but an antiques shop or the likes may be interested in them if they are in good nick.

I might do that actually.  Yeah, three of the rods are split cane rods.

I'm pretty sure the Hardy reel is valuable (similar ones  seem to go for £500-£800) but I'm guessing it's value will only increase over time.

  17. Bumping this thread with a question.

I've got some old fishing gear (from the 1950s) and I'm wondering how to pass it on?

I know there's a Hardy Brothers fly fishing reel that's got some decent value but other than that it's just 4 rods, a few old spinners, and some random hooks and tackle.

I'm not necessarily looking for much money (other than the value of the reel mentioned) but I'd like it to go to someone that could put it to good use.  Any suggestions?

  18. I'm a bit gutted he's going.  What a bowler - and seems like a decent lad at the same time.  This series has seen him really let loose rather than give the usual 'media-trained professional sportsman' schtick.

I thought they done OK, when the interviewer was clearly being an awkward p***k; they've got jobs to do and they're doing it; the way it is is the way it is; there wasn't another way except tearing up what the club has done for the past few months and getting some nobody and his management team in, someone who would make a mess of it anyway

Then the Hearts support would go mental at the club for doing that

    🤣

I just checked in to see the reaction to the car crash interview and I'm loving the 'nothing to see here' line being taken.  Well played.

Time for Jimmy to earn his keep. Couldn't ask for better conditions.

Why has he been so meh this series?

It's a real surprise.  Woakes, Wood, and Broad have been so much better than him.
