  1. It was a typical Stenhousemuir performance. Going 2 up but never quite believing that it will be enough against the worst team in the league. We were in a similar position against them last season when 2-1 up they got a late equaliser. History almost repeated.

Over the 90 minutes we were the better team, and in that first half I found myself contemplating whether Brechin were actually worse than Albion Rovers. Based on the first half they were. We should have been further ahead. Second half was a more even affair and certainly after the first goal went in it was quite uncomfortable especially the last 5 minutes. The space on our left was quite alarming. Presumably someone who knows more about how to set up a professional football team will have taken note.

Still finding myself seriously ambivalent about this season and I am ashamed to say, my own team. Would be stretching it to say I don’t care, but it just doesn’t feel real, peering at a computer screen, “supporting” players who I don’t even know or recognise. Just want to survive this season in more ways than one and hopefully return with the same passion next season.

  2. I'm hopeful going into this game. Discounting the recent two League Cup ties, where two much-changed Stenhousemuir sides lost to Livingston and Alloa Athletic, we've been in pretty decent form over the past few weeks. Our least league match, the 2-0 win over Edinburgh City, was probably the best performance I've seen a Stenny side in 12 months and if we can play with the same degree of intensity and application, I think we've got a very good chance of winning on Saturday. Tommy Muir's pressing was excellent and his forced the Citizens into playing long balls, none of which stuck, and allowed us to control the middle of the park. Providing everyone is fit and well, we should look to play the same XI:

    - Botti Biabi - Tommy Muir - Greig Spence -

    - Jack Hodge - Callum Tapping - Ryan Blair -

    - Callum Yeats - Creag Little - Andy Munro - Jonathon Tiffoney -

    - Paddy Martin -

I won't pretend to know too much about Annan Athletic but they appear inconsistent and can be got at.
    Home win!

I’m assuming tiffoney and little will be ruled out because of COVID.
  3. Given the number of teenagers in the starting line up I thought we did remarkably well. Absolutely dominated the 1st half and could have been miles ahead. Alloa obviously were well on top 2nd half. The3rd goal was bizarre . No idea what happened or who scored it. Glad our goalie got it out of his system in this match rather than a league game. This is the same young goalie who is only playing because Smith is out for the season. Much like the Alloa goalie I presume.

  4. Draw was definitely the fair result in the circumstances. Second week in a row a keeper error has cost his team, at least this week we were the beneficiaries. Speaking of goalies I thought our new keeper looked very safe, particularly under high balls (a week too late for us). And Yeats at full back looks a really good prospect. Muir still to convince.

  5. Presume this is at Central Park? And what is happening about streaming?

Hope Smith is fit for Saturday but it did look like he landed awkwardly on his knee last week. The young goalie looks quite shaky, unless he is facing penalties.

And I suspect McGuigan will start on the bench. Muir and Spence are obviously Irons preferred pairing. Anyone know why McGuigan isn’t wearing no 9? Shirt not fit him?

  6. Brechin’s problems can’t be pinned on one person but East Fife won a watch when Airdrie took Page off their hands. Once they realised they’d made a mistake it was as if they would rather play with 10 men than have Page in the line up. When we were looking for a centre half last season I was petrified he would end up with us, but was delighted he went to Brechin. There are obviously issues with Page and when you have so few experienced players in your squad then you need to be able rely on them.

  7. Agree with all of this, in particular the comment regarding Yeats. Very impressive. Unfortunately, also agree about the keepers involvement in the equaliser. Very weak. Having said that Smith was having a nightmare before he went off. We would have lost that game 2-0 last season so hopefully we can relax a bit more this season.

I thought the camera issues had been resolved after the Airdrie game, but today was terrible. Even more frustrating when you see 30 people sitting in the stand.

  8. That was unexpected, but fully deserved. Should have been 2 or 3 up at half time but once we did get the 2nd was quite comfortable. Heart in mouth when Tapping went down in the first half. We need to keep him fit. I actually don’t remember him being this good.

Albion. Not as bad as they were during the John Brogan era, but can’t really see any positives in that performance today.

  9. A bit to be encouraged by last night. Mainly the quality of the young guys. They all looked very capable; only McQueen seemed to struggle a bit although it is tough to tell exactly what is happening on the far side.

We certainly seemed the better side in the 2nd half despite losing the goals in that period. And when you’re feeling positive what do you want next? A trip to Cliftonhill. Sigh.

  10. Great to have the football back. Just wish we could get in to watch it. Good “win” for us and our young goalie managed to save three pens - one in the 90 mins and two in the shoot out. Great debut.

Edinburgh pass it about well and looked like they might run riot at the start of the 2nd half. But other than that we competed well and were pressing hard at the end for the Equaliser.

Squad depth looks like an issue. 6 teenagers on the bench today.

  11. I watched Airdrieonians match with Albion Rovers this evening on DTV and I was really impressed with the product. The camera - which I think might be Pixellot - largely followed the action, the picture was HD and the commentary was excellent. I hope our service is of a similar standard when it's fully operational!

It is pixellot and was miles better than it was on Saturday apparently. Hopefully they can make the same improvements to our camera.
