  1. They've moved for a reason and the fact you aren't asking the question why?? Is why youre in the state youre in. Lets see who is in what nationals and districts next season and I think youll have your harsh reality staring you in the face.
  2. I think thats a fair shout. SPAFA have effectively become the 3rd best league in the West of Scotland and do seem to be doing well with the 19s. Not a bad thing if they can keep it going. Could be a good feeder league to the GGPL.
  3. GGPL wouldnt touch them. They have become an under 19s league now. Shame to see a good league drop so low.
  4. I did get 3 out of 4 of the rest that moved. Castlemilk one came from someone inside Castlemilk OBC so surprised about that but fair enough. Re Greenock HSFP a few people heard that and I suppose they have decided against it THIS season. Cant see them being happy pumping teams 50 odd to nil for long so watch this space
  5. From the website, the 12 in the Premier League - 3 Folded, 4 to the Calie which leaves 5. Rumour that Castlemilk OBC going Sat morning also. Be as well going back to calling it the SAFL
  6. GARTCOSH now announced moving from SPAFA to the Calie league. Another really good club to add to Bannockburn, St Pats and Campsie who have already jumped ship from SPAFA to Calie. Never saw any of them coming but SPAFA is imploding.
  7. I actually think the GGPL are in a much stronger position in terms of numbers (32 teams to a possible 18 in SPAFA) and quality when you see what will remain in SPAFA next season. SPAFA are in serious trouble unfortunately.
  8. youre correct it is a very big name, but it's not them.
  9. Hearing a very strong rumour that another SPAFA team about to be announced very soon joining the Calie league next season. Its a VERY big name, cant see how SPAFA come back from this.
  10. St Pats and Campsie Minerva confirmed by the Caledonian League on twitter. No doubt about it now, interesting times.
  11. TBH it does come across as 100% bitter . Leagues are entitled to make their own decision to amalgamate or not, and just because it doesn't suit you it comes across as petty and weak. IF the rumours are true about St Pats and Campsie Minerva, currently sitting 1st & 3rd in the Scottish 'Premier' Amateur League (only 9 teams in it right enough), switching to the Calie League then that should set alarm bells ringing in that league. Clubs are switching, for whatever reasons, but things can't be great or it wouldn't be the case. Maybe the league that's losing teams should ask the question WHY as opposed to throwing insults at a league running its business properly and in a way that attracts quality clubs to it. It certainly looks like the amalgamation hasn't worked and rumours abound of more movement in the same direction so when the dust settles lets see what state the leagues are in.
  12. Exactly, you might have 25 signed but half of them will only be available now and again to help out. Its not like youre rocking up with 25 players at 1pm on a Sat and trying to whittle it down to 18. Truth is nowadays that you need a bigger squad just to fulfill games
  13. The SPAFL has shot its bolt I think. If, as rumoured, St Pats and Campsie to Calie they are 100% top league in Scotland. I also heard GHSFP making the move also. Interesting times for the Calie
  14. Always thought the games being on a Sunday meant players calling off or not wanting to play Sat and Sun. Not sure if leagues manage to get their best players out to play so is it a true reflection of each league??
  15. See that the West of Scot 21s and 19s have joined Cali league now to form development leagues. On twitter last night. Decent addition to the league if it means you can play players in your ammy teams as well as 19s and 21s which they say it does.
  16. Cupar were decent, but the gulf was pretty huge between both teams. EK benefitted from very generous draws and route to Semi and when up against a decent side found their level.
  17. Really strange draw indeed??? Just gives the conspiracy theorists loads of ammunition. Maybe EK teams staying together guaranteeing an EK team in the final would have been their preferred option. As an aside has there been a semi final team before who hasn't played a Central, Caley or Ayrshire top Divsion team in their run?. Bit similar to Falkirks run in the Scottish who can get to the final without playing a Premiership team.
  18. It's a bit of an embarrasment tbh. Let themselves down with the name and made themselves look pretty desparate.
  19. According to central's website they have 9 in premier, but Drum to Cali leaves 8. They have 10 in the championship but Dunipace to Cali and possibly 1, maybe 2 to the GGPL leaves 8 so a total of 16 teams in the central. Add the fact that safl may be at 14 but again another couple are moving to GGPL so don't think they will have 31 although they maybe have other clubs applying to them, who knows. I stick by my initial thoughts that to take in maybe 14 teams to get possibly 2 good teams seems a bit like a numbers game instead of quality. I know of a committee member from a central premier team who tells me all the teams are getting calls from central committee trying to convince teams to stay. Sounds like they're panicking to me.
  20. Struck a raw nerve there. I think the majority of teams the Cali have brought in are all either top, or near top of their respective leagues. Whereas the central have taken in 15 teams to get 2 teams of a similar standard. That's all I was saying, sonot really quite the same as you suggest. According to the Cali website and twitter it was all the Cali Clubs who didn't want a merger so you're a bit off the mark there. Whether that was a right or wrong decision who knows, but surely if the Clubs knock it back they're entitled to do so, its their league? To be honest is it down to a league on it's own to save amateur football as you suggest or try to put their own house in order so its attractive for other Clubs to apply. Surely if it's about saving ammy football that's the SAFA that should be doing something about it.
  21. Just saw the Cali have announced Giffnock SC and Dunipace joining next season. Add that to Alva, Riverside, Drumchapel and Stenhousemuir next seasons 1st Div should be a cracker. Heard no teams leaving the Cali so going by their website its 12 team Premier and 16 team 1st Div. That's strong. They've effectively taken 2 teams from Central Premier, arguably best teams in GGPL and Stirling & District. Decent going. Central taking in good sides from SAFL although taking in 15 teams to get 2 decent ones seems like just going for numbers tbh
  22. Surely to just accept teams into a supposed semi pro league you would at least had to have proved you're capable of competing at that level andyou have the stadia etc in place. Personally thinks it makes a mockery of the whole league
  23. It pretty bizarre imho. None of these teams have done anything significant in the amateur game, some are in bottom leagues and a couple nearly folded just before Covid???? Surely you would only be looking to go semi pro if you were winning everything at your own level and wanted to 'progress' for increased competition. The fact almost all of them dont fit the ground criteria, and lets be honest, wont have their own ground that will fit it ever just makes a mockery of the whole thing.
