  1. I think this will be a case of extremes. It will either be a top end appointment, one of the decent names currently out a job, or it'll be a left field appointment, potentially unmentioned so far. I think that will be why they keep saying head coach...........or manager. If a decent established manager is interested and wants the title, it's not a problem, but if it is an almost unknown, head coach will fit better. I don't think it will be an Ian Murray or Hartley or anyone like that.
  2. Watched the Mathie interview, sounds like he had 4 names he took to the board, a couple more have been mentioned, maybe more decision will be with the board ultimately. think it is still wide open though. Any of the 4 might not be interested or priced out the market. He didn’t give much away but he might not have much to give away just now.
  3. He is either an opportunist who sensed Hopkin was due the sack, or he was just grateful for the full time job. He probably didn’t expect another managers job after being below average at Morton and continuing his downward trend at Dumbarton. So it was easy for him to retire. if he hadn’t taken the job, he may well be assistant or coach to whoever became the Ayr manager but it didn’t work out for him.
  4. Pound for pound it’s not as straightforward. You pay peanuts you get monkeys. You pay decent championship wages you get that shower of shite. Worst? Probably not, worst full time team ? 100%
  5. Whoever he is politically is irrelevant in terms of their employment at the club. The only difference with Stillie and anyone else on the payroll is you know his leanings. This pish of hounding someone out of a job because you support a different political party is childish nonsense. (I’m not a Tory)
  6. I think the reason Timmins is being kept on is because he does the goalkeeping coaching Monday to Friday.
  7. Gus McPherson to Kilmarnock and Jim Duffy to Morton would make up for 10 months of Duffy and Hopkin.
  8. I don't care if Guardiola visited Greenock on a school trip in 1981, Any association with Greenock should automatically bar any applicant an interview.
  9. Duffy was the wrong man at the right place at the right time. A safe pair of hand turned to shit pretty quickly. No doubt, the failure of Kerr to sign a decent midfield was the start of the process, followed by Hopkin signing THIS defence has led us to this point. The lack of confidence seemed to improve under Duffy but his strange team selections and insisting on playing defensively when we have a shocking defence is what cost him another 6 months in the job. We need a manager that will have a personality to lift the club, we need to fill holes in the squad and we need it quickly.
  10. I’d be interested in Bartley but I think we need success or and experience straight off the bat. Someone who can lift the club and Brugge the gap between the club and the fans. in January, we need someone that can take the players most likely made available because they are failing at their current club and turn them round. Also turning round players we already have.
  11. I have no problem with players wages, they will take what they can get, it is no different to any other industry. The problem is when a manager throws silly money at an average player. It’s not the players fault when a club pays a large fee/wages. Smith needs to up the win bonus amount though, he must have saved a fortune on that budget. Maybe cash might incentivise these useless b*****ds
  12. 2 people have told me he quit on Saturday. I’ve been refreshing twitter ever since
  13. He said he would but joked no team would have him. If you look at the Brechin team, he’s brought in some left field signings and lined up 1 or 2 players for St Johnston. We need a personality to come in and lift the place.
  14. It comes down to where we train. Hopkin had us training at Cambusdoon, McCall had us training in Glasgow. Training at Cumnock would be easier for central belt based players than the arse end of Ayr. He’s at the BBC almost every day so it wouldn’t be a stretch for him to be in Ayr 3-4 times a week. Depends what we would pay him.
  15. I’d like Craig Levein, he can spot a player and has plenty of experience. Maybe wants to finish a job at Brechin though. he is unlikely. There may be a name in the coaching network that is a standout to someone like Mathie. Queens Park and even Fort William have made interesting appointments recently.
  16. I have my doubts on Ross, seems to be an arse and hasn’t really been the standout a lot of people make him out to be. He’ll also want decent cash to spend and I don’t think any club will fling money at him. I don’t think he would improve either team massively this season.
  17. I can only hope that the Duffy has quit and they are waiting until tomorrow to announce it. Maybe making some phone calls to see if any out of work managers are interested. We played the teams round about us and won two points. We now play teams in the top half, none have shown complacency yet so without new ideas and someone to lift the club, we could be detached by the end of January.
  18. Everyone at Ayr has chucked it, Manager, players, fans. It is a shame to waste an afternoon when we could just post you the three points. We don't even hope the game is postponed until we have players in because none of us think it will help.
  19. When someone boo'd at half time when we were a goal down to Albion Rovers, Muirhead turned round and shouted f**k off. Thistle can have him
  20. What meltdowns exactly? no one has said Queens didn't deserve to win, or that 3-0 didn't flatter us and you have just agreed with the point I made.
  21. We have accepted our humping. We are aware of how shite we are. You really are a precious bunch aren't you?
  22. Looking at the situation. Hopkin leaves/walks/is fired Short term - Smith has to potentially pay him off and his coaching team, then go through a recruitment process. Plan B is retaining the coaching staff in the hope that they come good. initially they do, the team perform better and Duffy is a low risk, safe pair of hands to take us to the end of the season. This saves a lot of money on punting the staff. Mid-Term - Bad results return but as long as we stay out of relegation bother, we will be ok, new manager can rebuild in the summer once Duffy retires. season is a write-off. Sacking Duffy now wouldn't look good, hardly any time has passed since he took over, it would be knee-jerk, managers need time. Now - We are now in the relegation spots and on relegation form. We have a team that clearly don't care and looked condemned with half a season left to play. The time to change is now, unfortunately we will get a manager who has to now panic buy players in January because they weren't expecting to rebuild a team in 6 weeks. I would hope that through this, there is an idea of who would be replacing Duffy long term. Maybe as suggested, someone not available until the summer.
  23. Salty. Not at all, I have seen it on here after we drew and lost on penalties to Dundee United. A corner had been turned and United were back. Two wins on the bounce when Duffy took over...against the two worst teams in the league at the time. Beating us is not hard to do, we have no midfield and our defence is the worst in the league, we had 2 shots on goal which is a lot for this team. But sure, by all means, think you are world beaters
  24. Queens losing to Morton next week will be funny, the comedown of their fans will be spectacular
