  1. I was 10 in 2004 and that Fulham game is the earliest pre season friendly I can remember. I can mind thinking that 1.) friendlies were fucking brilliant and 2.) if we could match an EPL team, we could probably beat anyone in Scotland and would most likely scoosh the First Division. Took about 3 or 4 weeks for that optimism to be battered out of me. I remember Moritz Volz being class that day.
  2. If your expectation was to build on last season and challenge for 1st place, the argument might be made that Bannigan should only be kept on as a more peripheral player; but your head has also been up your arse if you think that is a remotely realistic objective. From the point of view that a ~45 point 'get it over and done with' type season is probably on the cards, retaining competent Championship players on (presumably) similar or even reduced terms, is sensible. Having said that, im quite happy for us to operate with an unbalanced 10 man squad for the season if it means we can bring Stephen O'Donnell home.
  3. TFS and West England battling it out for the wooden spoon in their respective, piss-easy groups

  5. Like most other clubs, we were incurring losses due to Covid and cost of living, but we were also dealing with that shortly after relegation from the top flight and suffering Gary Caldwell as manager, who signed countless duds unfit for professional football and needing replaced. In that context, we nonetheless began last season by signing: David Mitchell Harry Milne Jack McMillan Aaron Muirhead Steven Lawless Aidan Fitzpatrick Danny Mullen Anton Dowds We also signed Cole McKinnon and Liam Hodson on loan, as well as retaining Docherty, Graham, Brownlie, Turner and Smith who were already signed - presumably - with the intention of being regular first-team players. That's significantly more transfer activity than any other team in the division last season, involving players who - on the most part - would have been coveted by other sides. It ought to have been clear to anyone involved that any outcome that didn't involve promotion would set us up for disaster, and here we are. Next season will be a brutal watch and I'd take 8th place right now on the condition that the next year is used to tidy up the books. We should still have a competitive enough squad with the contracted players, but if any offers came in for McMillan, Milne or Fitzpatrick then it would be hard to justify knocking back given the context.
  6. Just a shame that Rangers couldn't keep themselves afloat and let their club die.
  7. Guys - it's been a blast. The Chels have been a disgrace this season, but it's been class to see the banter flying about on here I'll be heading Stateside for July's Barclays Summer Series - hopefully see some of you over there, but we'll get right back at it in August regardless.
  8. Another context is that weve built an ageing squad of players with little-to-no sell-on value, most of whom are probably playing at (or, in some cases, beyond) their ceiling at the top end of the Championship - at the same time as the previous board were registering successive losses with the club. There's no doubt that watching a team of established Championship players is infinitely preferable to seeing Alex fucking Jones or Lewis Mansell (?) pretending to be professionall footballers, but whether we go up or down the new management team will be faced with a significant rebuild on a modest budget sooner rather than later.
  9. Inspired by the Crisps thread. Had them opened and finished within a few minutes. 8/10 Diabetes in a bar, but more than worth it. A life experience. 10/10
  10. They have correctly taken into account that away goals count in Scottish play-off games. The referee and players have overlooked this and are continuing to play on.
  11. I attended - and thoroughly enjoyed - tonight's play-off semi-final first leg match. I will reserve further observations for the conclusion of next week's second leg. A pleasant weekend to fellow forum users in the meantime.
  12. Lee Bullen to take the Dundee job tonight. Ian McCall appointed Ayr United manager in the morning. Let's fucking have it.
  13. Here's one for you - Quincy Owusu-Abeyie #Archives #BLOW #Hublot
  14. The Celtic one is the most perfect representation of their football club in humanoid form. Or at least would be if Leigh Griffiths didn't exist.
  15. Celtic should be stripped of the title for allowing that duffer to score against them.
  16. John McGlynn has managed to cause reputational damage on a national scale at his clubs by either: - Signing a rapist - losing 5 goals in one half to 'Airdrieonians' - wearing trackie-bottoms with a shirt and tie Not only a fraud, but a probable deviant and certain scumbag.
  17. A good effort with the last minute goal on Tuesday night, but from there we've went more down the route of stamping on Glasgow Gretna's necks rather than drawing out the pain. 6/10; room for improvement.
  18. An otherwise splendid night, rather dampened by this referee's harrowing hairline.
  19. I'm Chels as they come, but I was sad to see Millwall FC miss out on the play-offs. What a treat it will be when we can finally welcome The Den to our league. You always knew you were in for one when Terry Hurlock and Keith "Rhino" Stevens were flying into tackles - that's if you could manage the walk from Surrey Quays to the ground without getting sparked I'll tell you another thing - they wouldn't be putting up with your Linekers, your Nevilles, or your Rashfords down there. Let's just leave it at that, shall we?
  20. Once upon a time, Man United could have punted De Gea to Madrid for 90 mil and Keylor Navas. A decent upgrade in that position would put more points on the board for them than spunking their budget on Harry Kane.
