  1. I am very much aware of the nickname. In any case I attended the school where he taught so I'm not unused to people saying unpleasant things about my father to my face. Thankfully after in excess of 24 hours of labour, an unsuccessful syntocin drip and discussion of an episitomy the small person became distressed (tbf so was I by that point) so she was extracted via the emergency exit. Just a shame about the state of my pelvic floor.
  2. I used to post on here pretty regularly, as did my dad. Around the time he died I pretty much stopped posting as I had a newborn baby. In the intervening period it would appear that at least one other poster had noted my disappearance and as my dad's death had been mentioned on here, they had put two and two together and got nine - as I had ceased posting around the same time as he had died, I was clearly actually just a fake account created by him and my whole persona was an elaborate hoax.
  3. Don't know if it's a RTBC or not - give me a couple of weeks - but I'm back! Oh, and reason to have a giggle - in my absence someone apparently speculated that me and my dead father were one and the same person, hence my disappearance. Nope. I am not dead, and I have a fanny.
  4. A question that I think (hope) might be relevant to this thread - I've got a mp3 of 'Running' by The Pharcyde from feck knows where, but I think it's ace. Is this representative of their stuff generally (i.e. if I like this track, might I like other stuff they've done?) and if so, where do I start? Suggestions welcome.
  5. Leaving aside the fact that there is no way that this - even if voted in favour of by the BMA - will become government policy (see the dragging of feet re. plain cigarette packing etc.) it's a blatantly stupid idea. Prohibition of something doesn't stop people wanting it, or stop people finding out ways to get their hands on it, or stop people fucking themselves up with it. Whilst as a non-smoker I supported the ban on smoking in enclosed public places I can't get my head around this. Inform people that cigarettes can f**k you up, give them resources to stop smoking if they want to, and then leave them to it. Prohibition is not the answer.
  6. If my training doesn't go that well I'll keep that strategy in mind as a plan B, cheers!
  7. I've got a place in the Great North Run as well. More than a little apprenhensive as I've never done anything more than a 10K previously, I think I might have been pished when I applied. Ooops. On the bright side I suppose there's plenty of time to get my arse in gear before September - if this doesn't motivate me nothing will!
  8. Failing an exam, which it will cost me £1400 to re-sit, by two marks. Two fucking marks! It's like losing to a disputed or own goal in the last minute of injury time, I'd rather have failed properly
  9. People who expect me to find their house for a home visit who have no number on the door, no name, nothing. I'm not fucking psychic, how am I supposed to find your hoose? Honestly, this job has given me a new respect for posties, I'm astonished anybody gets any mail at all.
  10. My doctors bag and I have just been copiously vomited on by an unwell child
  11. This sounds immense. I was going to have a haggis pizza for tea ce soir but I might have to pop into Lidl on the way home and get one of these instead. If I do try it I shall report back with my findings.
  12. Re. deferring entry to school, I think it's the case that you have to have started school before you turn six, therfore anyone born in September or later can defer. Generally those whose parents decide to defer primary school entry are January or February birthdays though.
  13. I'm not much of a cineaste so I've never actually seen Goodfellas
  14. I saw this last night. Thought it was great, very atmospheric, and the directing and acting were, as you say, fantastic (although with such a stellar cast that was to be expected)... but am I educationally sub-normal or was it really really quite confusing? I'm still a bit with regards to certain bits of the plot. Maybe I ought to read the book (though I don't know how faithful an adaptaion it was, that might just muddy the waters). Anyway, 8.5/10, losing 0.5 for excessive gore (thankfully I hadn't had my tea beforehand) and 1 for being too clever for simpletons like myself.
  15. If it's nutramigen then that is indeed lactose and gluten free. I don't think the surgery will be too bothered tbh, and even if they are with a request to prescribe from secondary care they can swivel Hope the wee one is feeling better soon.
  16. Silly question time, but if I'm having a light breakfast before the race (just cereal or something) and it's a 9.30 ko, should I be aiming to have that about 90 minutes before the race start? I'm not normally much of a breakfast person but then again I'm not normally someone who runs 10K before lunch so reckon doing it on an empty stomach is probably monumentally stupid.
  17. Doing the GSR 10K on Sunday, bit apprehensive as with work nonsense I've not been out running as much as I'd have liked over the last month or two. However whilst I am undoubtedly a plum I have a comfy spot right at the back of the crowd so I shouldn't be getting in anyone's road.
  18. Two PTTGOMNs at the moment: 1. I am on nightshift and half-dead, as I didn't manage to get any sleep yesterday during the day which hopefully explains why... 2. ...I've just heard Olly Murs' new single and really liked it
  19. Re. Natalie Portman, in fairness the only films I've seen her in previously were 'Closer' (dire - not her so much as the script) and bits of the Star Wars prequels (even more dire - again, the material was mince). And Leon, which doesn't count cos she was 12. I've never seen V for vandetta (apart from her performance, is it actually any good?)
  20. Black Swan A psychological thriller with sexual overtones set in the cut-throat world of ballet (an utter head-f**k with lots of dancing burds in fluffy dresses). Natalie Portman was far better in it than anything I've seen her in before (which tbf isn't saying much) and I got the impression that the boy, eh, enjoyed some of her scenes with Mila Kunis. Ahem. 8.5/10 (losing 0.5 for the oh-so-shocking-'lesbianism')
  21. People who pitch up to A&E with toothache. Is it an accident? No. Is it an emergency? No. Do I look like a fucking dentist? No. And of course, they hadn't taken any analgesia either. Of course not. Why would you take a painkiller if you're in pain?
