St Johnstone's Next Permanent Manager 23/24
The Real Saints replied to Ludo*1's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
We haven’t actually had a football manager at the club since early 2020. Despite this, we won a cup double. Even now, at our lowest point in years, we have somehow managed to remain competitive and in touch with other teams. I have absolutely no negative feelings about today’s long-awaited appointment of a football manager. Safety is now guaranteed. Welcome Craig! -

Certainly his best performance as a left wing-back. Have never thought that he looks particularly natural when going forward, and is therefore maybe more suited to being on the left of a central three, but that performance changed my mind somewhat. -

Alternatively, we’re about to hire a former Scotland manager who has a decent enough record in the top league and a wide knowledge of Scottish football despite being absent from the managerial merry-go-round in recent years. By all accounts, he’ll be bringing Andy Kirk along as his assistant, which makes sense because he knows him well and he appears to be a talented young-ish manager who would naturally jump at the chance to make the significant step up from Highland League manager to Scottish Premiership assistant. Just trying to balance out Random’s post here because it sucked the life out of me.- 566 replies

From the most recent names mentioned, I would be satisfied with Craig Levein or Tam Courts. The Robbie Neilson links seem to have gone quiet. -

I imagine that would be a bit misplaced. Regardless of his ability, we’ll be seeing an instant improvement in results with an actual football manager in charge of our club for the first time since 2020. It wouldn’t take anything too special to get this talented squad of players up the league. -

A Craig Levein and Stevie Grieve partnership. Interesting. -

I know we all have our different views n that, but can we all agree that Steve Bright is very annoying? -

How's Stevie Grieve getting on in his first managerial role? Perhaps a surprise return is on the cards... -

It’s interview day! Hopefully we get a few exciting leakages (there have already been some leakages of a personal nature since 9.30pm last night, but I’m referring to managerial candidate leaks now). Tam Courts is on the shortlist according to Scott Burns. I’m in two minds about Tam. I think he showed himself to be a capable manager at United, but he’s also a bit of a personality vacuum which I’m not sure our current squad would benefit from. Maybe some sort of Levein-Courts partnership would work well. -

Maybe Steven MacLean actually did a very good job in the transfer market and simply didn’t know how to manage these players. I hope that’s the case and we can still count on this squad to kickstart our new era. All things considered, that wouldn’t be the worst legacy to leave behind. -

I’d be fine with Craig Levein, to be honest. -

Costelloe is an absolute dimwit. I hope we never see him starting another match. -

It’s quite evident that we have a top four squad which is finally free of the MacLean-Davidson stranglehold. Thank god for that. -

Neil Lennon rules himself out of the running. Out of the managers who I imagine would be viable from the list above (so, excluding the likes of Wright and Coyle), my order of preference would be: 1. David Martindale 2. Robbie Neilson 3. Tam Courts 4. Jody Morris -

I'm in total agreement with the whole 'role model' argument. If David Martindale is appointed as our new manager, I'm sure that our young, impressionable supporters will immediately start looking into the possibility of becoming a drug kingpin.- 566 replies

A character like Davie Martindale or Neil Lennon would be my preference as well. I also imagine that the players would greatly benefit from a manager who actually possesses an ounce of charisma and social skills. -

Yeah, Martindale being respectful to his current club without point-blank denying the rumours. Very interesting. -

I was just about to describe him as a one-hit wonder, but then I checked YouTube and discovered that he has a lengthy catalogue of music. This includes the long-awaited sequel track 'Hello' which was released 9 days ago. -

This was indeed the story that had been doing the rounds. Due to the mutually beneficial nature of the real reason, we respected wee Davie’s wishes to keep it a secret. -

It’s going to be quite a sobering moment for Livingston supporters when they finally realise why David Martindale was acting all pally-pally with Chris Kane a few weeks ago. -

I would have liked Tommy Wright or Jody Morris when we were ‘looking’ for Callum Davidson’s replacement. Alas, we made the bizarre decision to go with our failed manager’s failed assistant. But now, it’s no longer the right time for a Jody Morris appointment. And Tommy, who might have been under consideration previously, is no longer available. It has been a total clusterfuck in a long line of total clusterfucks. Anyway, we need to go against our traditional transfer policy now. We need an experienced head. It’s our only hope. Maybe Neilson is a good shout, although he appears devoid of a personality. From the other names currently linked, I can’t see why Martindale would be interested. Billy Dodds is a hard no.
