And it's not an entirely accurate statement considering 6 of the starting 11 for the last 2 games were at the club during the League 1 championship season. And on Saturday a further 2 were on the bench, with another 2 currently out injured.
There was f**k all flukey about it.
We had something like 21 efforts on goal to their 4. They then score from a free kick that shouldn't have been, thanks to Chris Higgins sleeping. It doesn't matter now, it's history. But to claim there isn't a big gap between the West Premiership and the SPFL Championship is way off the mark. Remember that we beat Beith in the previous round. They were reigning league champions at the time.
A gap, yes. But not a particularly big one.
It is a big gap. One flukey win doesn't alter that. Amongst others, they've been put out by Stirling, Stranraer, Edinburgh City (when they were non-league) and Cumbernauld Colts.
I'm not inspired. If that's the field then it has to be Sandy Stewart (although I reserve judgement on him until Saturday at least). But McCall wasn't quoted at the start last time, so who knows who will pop up.
The club may have been happy to employ him on a rolling contract on the off chance that he was sacked, in which case it would have been cheaper to pay him off than if he was on a long-term contract.
I said it puts 'all' the blame on the manager and squad. I didn't say it should all be put on the board and commercial arm. But I don't think they should get off scot free.
