You forgot about the penalty for us at the start of the 2nd half. Looked clear cut to me.

I agree. I couldn’t understand the ref’s decision there at all. MFW gets to the ball, Queens Park defender immediately clatters into him, not getting the ball. Surely that’s an obvious foul?

Ref gave a goal kick, so was obviously aware that the defender didn’t get the ball. Anywhere on the park, if two players go for the ball, when one gets there first and the other then clatters into them, it’s a foul. Really similar to the Aberdeen penalty that was given yesterday. Referee didn’t give it and it was decided it was a “clear and obvious” error.

He's got to be more switched on too though. All good and well if we assemble a decent squad but he's got to stop being so stubborn at times.

I agree. But he was also very honest after the United win, when he spoke to the BBC. Said that in hindsight, he had been too stubborn and stuck with our best shape when everyone’s fit, when we didn’t have the right players available. He’s still a young and inexperienced manager. He’s going to make mistakes and we’re going to have rough patches. The main thing is that he learns from them.

We need to see progress from players and manager/coaching team next season. There’s no doubt about that.

  3. I just want to win this weekend, put this season behind us and trust that the club do what they can to avoid a repeat of what went wrong this season.

Assuming we ensure our survival, I hope the club do what they can to add more experience to the squad for next season. I’d also hope that we can come to mutual agreements to end a few contracts early/allow players to move on for free and try to improve certain areas of the team.

If we want to be challenging at the top of the championship, we need a new goalkeeper. If we can bring in MFW permanently, I think we’re ok defensively. But in midfield, we need to upgrade on both Allan and Chalmers. In games against teams in the top 4 in particular, the 2 of them have been overrun and have looked completely out of their depth. If we want to be at that standard, I don’t think they’re what we need.

We also have other fringe/cover players that just haven’t produced the quality that we need. I just don’t know how realistic it is that we can offload these guys.

It also goes without saying that signing Chris Kane, or another striker that will improve us, is a must.

  4. Airdrie the much better team today and last time we played. Thoroughly deserved both victories and their playoff spot. Credit to McCabe for the job he’s done there in the last 2 years.

Regarding the Benedictus challenge, happened right in front of us and Bene got a solid foot onto the ball, was an absolutely fantastic challenge. But can see why it probably looked a pen from the other side.

    Nah that's just silly.

Compare the records of both players at this level and there's a clear winner.

Chris Kane - 50 championship games, 22 goals and 6 assists. Goal involvement every 1.78 games

Brian Graham - 280 championship games, 98 goals, 30 assists. Goal involvement every 2.19 games

Am I missing something? Worth noting, adding assists actually makes it closer. On game/mins per goal, Kane is much better.

I genuinely can't tell anything from the video shown - which foot has Muirhead used to stand on Kanes? Both feet are 'near' Kane, but I can't actually see contact.

Ref was closer, so MAY have had a better look at it.

Also, why does Kane then jump about 5 feet to his left then fall over?

Doesn't really matter in the scheme of things, but I'd be laughing if we got that.

You have to be at it here. Muirhead’s right foot clearly stands on Kane’s ankle. At this point you’re actively choosing not to see it, if you’re still trying to claim that’s not a penalty. It’s just really clumsy from Muirhead.

edit - missed the post above once you’d actually watched it. Still not sure why you quoted saying you couldn’t see the contact, before watching the footage though.

    Aye that's a penalty.

    Is O'Reilly injured?

Yeah, pretty sure I’d go down grabbing my ankle if someone stood on it with their studs. Muirhead surely can’t be the best defender Thistle have? Guy’s a bombscare.

Thistle fans will probably still claim it was a dive for the penalty though and ignore Brian Graham’s actual dives. Don’t get me wrong, Graham’s a really good player at this level and he’s a proper pest to play against (I’ve said as much on our thread). But you can’t start moaning about other players going down easily/diving when your team has the likes of him and Fitzpatrick throwing themselves to the ground, as they did yesterday.

Remember Graham’s attempt to get Bene sent off just before half time? Grabbed a fistful of Bene’s shirt and just threw himself to the ground still holding it 😂

  8. Agree with people above, Brian Graham would fall into the same bracket as guys like Chris Hamilton, Josh Falkingham, Andy Smith. Hate playing against them, but the kind of guy you absolutely love when they’re at your club. Wears his heart on his sleeve and does whatever it takes to win. Plays with real passion/desire.

It’s just disappointing to have people scream abuse at a player who hasn’t really done anything wrong, and only played today because he had to.

I genuinely don’t disagree. But it’s not worth arguing with people who had decided he was the worst player on the park before a ball had been kicked. These people have made their minds up and will see what they want to see.

Otoo was basically a one man midfield towards the end, but to be fair he still absolutely bossed it. Think we will end up making a bit of coin on him.

Not getting involved in the Chalmers debate. But Otoo is proving to be a top midfielder at this level. He’s been immense since moving back into midfield.

  11. Agree with most of the above, referee well out of his depth and never seemed to be in control of the game. Some really strange decisions for both teams.

Not a lot of quality in the game and no really great saves. But we cleared 2 off the line and thistle hit the post. We hit the post twice as well. So both teams possibly wondering how they didn’t end up winning that, to an extent.

This is bizarre, Pars TV is getting a sky channel. Firstly, I didn’t think they’d be allowed to do this unless it was outwith the UK?
Secondly, almost every week I read about the streaming being poor, if they are even given permission from the away hosts to stream from their ground?
Thirdly, will anyone with the dodgy fire stick or boxes will get access to this (asking for a friend)

  13. Hard fought win in the end. Our performance had a bit of everything over the 90 mins. First half we looked streets ahead of Arbroath. But then, start of second half they looked streets ahead of us. In the end, we dug deep and held on for the win, which was good to see.

Arbroath had a lot of possession in good areas at 3-2, but the only chance I really remember was for McCann, to put us 4-2 up.

I seem to remember Mehmet making a great save early on, when it was 0-0. But first half we also hit the bar twice (scored from the rebound of one of them) and Jakubiak managed to miss an open goal. Overall, probably would have been good for a neutral, but I’m just glad we got the result.

Sorry, but this Arbroath team are horrendous. We’ve played quite well, but how have none of their players worked out they might want to pick up Todd? Their defending of set pieces is awful too. Getting basics all wrong and they look like a team that’s going to go down without a fight.

Starting to regret this… as bad as Arbroath were first half, we’ve been even worse in the second.
