  1. Im not going to be pessimistic but a realist here. The squad is shaping up ok however we have re signed a lot of players who unfortunately finished 2nd bottom. Couple of tweaks e.g bucks signing and a couple of future signings should enable us to potentially compete for top 4 at a real push. Top spot is just not realistic. I hope this post comes back to bite me may i add. We will compete well for sure against the top sides but to maintain an unbeaten run with the squad we have is just not going to happen sadly.
  2. Good start to the squad building for the season ahead. Kept the 3 main players for me being Morrisson/Mango/Swann. We have addressed our goalscorer situation by bringing in experience and poacher bucks. We have addressed our gk situation by bringing in a young hungry gk with good full time football behind him and some games at a higher level. My issue i think moving forward is that when analysing the squad it needs more freshness in an attacking sense. If we are to challenge for top 4 which will be the aim make no mistake. Perhaps we could have freshened up more by letting some players who have been with us a long time go and freshen up those positions with new blood but the grass isnt always greener no guarantee for example letting a mullen go that you would find a better right back. Thats garys job to weigh that up. I would for sure look at an attacking midfielder or wide player who can get us up the pitch and be dangerous on the counter. E.g brian fairbairn/marc mckenzie esque. These types of players are out there and would be key to how we attack teams and thus create chances for renton/bucks. Another forward is obviously required as we cant just go with 2. Most likely a loan deal but our loans must be better im thinking of poor loans in shape of olly hamilton for example nowhere near good enough and to a degree zander miller wasnt up to scratch. Other squads will be better on paper in this league but theres not much between teams in league 2. Stirling have made some good signings and will be better. Stenny will for sure be better but cant see them being top 2 side. Kelty will make some big signings on top of what they have already done so I would imagine they would begin as favourites alongside Edinburgh. Top 4 finish should be our aim and we will need more quality to achieve this. Otherwise its mid table at best.
  3. Im not. He made a lot of errors whilst on loan. Some key saves and is as raw as they come as a young GK. My gut feeling is he will try get full time football somewhere however I think it will be difficult for him. I would like us to go try get cammy binnie released from Stirling. I wouldnt be adverse to young Hogarth but a more rounded goalkeeper is what I would be after.
  4. Bit early for us really. I think the club will be working on re-signing players. More news to come hopefully within this week or next on who is re-signing. I tend to think its always early to mid June before we sign players. Buchanan is really an exception cant recall us ever having announced a player a day after a season ends. Think that showed the willingness to get that player tied up. For incoming players there will of course be loads of players out there who have been released and its finding the right ones. Lets hope Garys recruitment can be a little better and his loan signings as the season progresses better. GK and one wide player and another striker is our priority moving forward.
  5. Bollans objective for re-signings should be Craig Barr/Harvey Swann and Gav Morrison in my opinion. The players who have been at the club a while Mullen/Buchanan/Miller im almost certain will re sign for us. Would like to see us give Ross Clarke an opportunity to re-sign. Jamie Todd loves it at cowden so will re sign im sure. Question marks over taylor/herd most likely.
  6. Not sure if bucks has signed however if he is/has its a problem area and he is a proven goalscorer. He has been playing in the championship recently thus you dont get by in that league with poor fitness or a lack of talent still. If he were to sign its a poacher signing that we have been crying out for. My issue with how we play is how to create chances. If we create chances Liam scores goals regardless of age simples. He is actually very good at coming off the front and linking play cleverly also. At central park on a tight pitch I see him being a hugely effective striker for us. As the season has finished im glad its over in what has been a very tough season. Enjoyed working with BBTV and going to games. The passion from our board should not go un noticed they are working tirelesly to get the club going in the right direction. For the new season I dont see massive wholesale changes in playing staff as I believe a lot of the players are key to re-sign. Striker required/possibly another (loan).Goalkeeper required contracted and I would try for someone like blair currie of Stirling who is in and out of their side I think. Midfielder required forward thinking and wide right player. Ive a feeling we will try re-sign Finnie/Hutton. MONE THE COWDEN
  7. Case closed then. Glad that's all been sorted. The caps really hit the point home. CHEERS. GLAD ITS HIT THE POINT.
  8. great guy. Great chairman and great for cowdenbeath fc.
  9. The time for reflection is after the season ends. Horrible season and to be frank we are not a very good football team but we do have individuals who are good and with a couple of key players brought in next season could be a top 4 team. I wasnt impressed with our performance last night and the tactics employed. I go on about attacking intent and patterns of play and there really isnt a great deal of that with this side. However the issue that faces the coaching staff I will assume! is that they dont get time on the training field to work on it due to the schedule of games. I assume its rest days in between games currently. To not score against a team bottom of league in 2 games is shocking no excuses. We huffed and puffed last night and the players are showing they are battling and working they simply lack in certain areas composure and guile. Theres not a purpose to our play and our best footballing players are kyle hutton and gav morrisson who are noticeably requiring someone up top to create with. Sore one but we go again and secure a finish which is not bottom of league. Next season there will be a change of personnel for sure its inevitable whether there is a change of leadership is up to the powers at be. Donald and the board are loyal people and wont make hasty decisions however they need to collectively look at the progression of the players/performances and where the club is headed. In a way no fans at games eases pressure on the management and players just now. I dare to think what certain members of the fans would be shouting at games currently. mon the cowden
  10. Dont think centre half is an area we need cover or new players. We have TODD/BARR/PYPER/GLASS and FINNIE who played there against QP and did ok. Renton is an asset defensively from corners but that wont mean he is a good centre half.
  11. The other clean sheet being against us also. The game was neat and tidy in midfield from cowden. We had no options for our midfielders to play little block passes and give and goes as they had zero movement up top. Defensively very good. Morrison was best player on the pitch by a mile followed by Kyle Hutton who tired. I would have brought on russell for his clever movement alone. He has a very good football brain and his intelligence up top alongside the good 2 footballing players in midfield may create more chances/space. Poor deliveries from set pieces and from wide areas were poor also. Good point but to not score against Albion in 2 games is really poor stuff from us and I do not know how Gary can change things to make us score more goals!
  12. My thoughts on this are very simple. We are a poor side with better players than they are showing. I dont believe we are particularly well coached. We can moan all we want about the fixture pile up however it is same for most teams. Our real lack of forward play and attacking threat is embarrassing and Bollan and his coaches have to take the stick for that as they set the team up and work on how to score goals. Players were signed to improve us in forward areas and as such this has not happened. We lack spark/energy and creation. Defensively we have done ok. The next 2 games are huge and a even a point on saturday will stop the bleeding so to speak. We need luck rather than creating our own luck due to how we are playing Im doing commentary for BBTV and I think it was obvious on Sat i wasnt happy with the performance and its hard to remain balanced and not show emotion through the microphone it hurts right now though seeing a downward spiral however lets not forget the ball is in our court. I would emphasise to the players play with freedom play with passion and express themselves. We have good players!. Press the game and if we get caught so be it. However by pressing the game and taking the game to opposition we are taking matters into our own hands. Mistakes will happen however I feel the team are afraid to go express themselves in fear of mistakes the only one I see with no fear is Harvey. He makes mistakes but he also can create (that goal recently as shown) other players need to step up and Gary needs to let some players off the leash a little. Looking games ahead is no good just now. Focus the efforts on saturday and lets take care of it ourselves and not worry about Brechin etc etc. There is little positivity in the team hence why the management need to step up.
  13. Massive game and one which we should be looking to take a positive result. I feel there is a real lack of belief in our play and a lack of belief in some players that they can go and influence the game. Renton and Zander miller to start for me up top. Gav morrisson been our best midfielder by miles the last few games and he is the only player I see growing in confidence and fitness. Dont think Craig Barr will be back for this one which is a huge blow. 1-1 draw - scorer OG .
  14. Echo the sentiments that the schedule for the players is ridiculous and I fear for their health in terms of fatigue/picking up injuries. These guys do have to work as well which is the main area of their livelihoods. So they will embrace all the games im sure but by the 4th game in a week they will struggle however other teams are in same boat. Hopefully players have maintained an ok fitness regime at home. I would urge all cowden fans to try their best to sign up to BBTV for our home games to get a small amount of revenue into the club. Get behind the players the best they can during what will be a tough couple of months for them. We have a tight squad numbers wise and hopefully we can add a further loan or 2 before end March (shutting of loan window) mone the cowden
  15. Heres what I dont understand. The rules are dont travel in cars together or some crap like this and sit 2 metres apart on a bus etc. Yet those same players will be tugging and trying to ride each other at corners breathing heavily down someones face... Its mental. The Albion postponement will fall down to whether they breached protocols I imagine it would be more difficult to prove at our level that they did?
  16. This squad is playing with niggles and injuries its actually evident the way they tire so much during some games im not gonna out players or pass poor judgement on them. Kavanagh should start every week regardless of whom plays alongside him. Russell in what I have seen is so far off the pace its hard to watch that is not his fault to be fair. Old age and no playing time since March perhaps even longer? will no doubt have done his sharpness even at his age no good. If he plays 3-4 consecutive games he may get sharper however he would have to play against an unbelievably poor defence to show up well. Renton is not fit and from what I hear shouldnt even be on the bench due to an injury but fair play to him to try make himself available. Toddy clearly wasnt match fit and has now damaged himself further. I personally would do the following against Queens Park and will likely mention it during BBTV this weekend. Last season at one point we played fraser mullen left back/wing back but mainly as a defensive outlet rather than attacking. We had 3 centre backs and robbie buchanan right wing back. I would play this system for a week or two and see how we go. It would look like so. GK. Robbie rwb - barr/todd/glass. If todd unfit then would have to play pyper if he is back from injury. Pyper is actually a player who we could really be doing with because of his pace. Mullen left back/lwb (defensive). Then we would go into midfield with Miller/Herd then front 3 of Kavanagh through middle. Taylor just off him to right or left playing deeper and Harvey Swann the same. They 2 players are key to the system e.g Swann/Taylor they would have less defensive duties in their own half and more pressing in the opposition half. It gives you options to change the shape during the game if it is not working and have attacking players from the bench e.g renton/russell/hamilton. Lets see what Gary does with what is a depleted side but showed a lot of frailties against a team with attacking pace and threat which we will be sure to face on Saturday. MONE THE COWDEN
  17. My thoughts on this are as follows. Did the player have the right to go for the ball absolutely. Was it a 50/50 as some folk have suggest absolutely. Was the tackle dangerous and with excessive force absolutely (should have resulted in a red card) Was it unfortunate - 100% but if the player hadnt went in with such excessive speed the likelihood of the break and injury wouldnt have happened. As for the benches reactions both are expected. One team (cowden) of course were incensed and shocked by the sight and tackle thus emotions are high. Gavin price walking out of his area approaching others is not acceptable and im not sure of the rules but I dont think this is allowed. Ross Clarke is a very nice lad and has settled well at cowden and was looking like one of our better signings. He is now out for the season and its another disaster for cowden. The Elgin player will be distraught in so much that he of course didnt mean to break someones leg. But spare me if you dont think he deserved a red card for the offence. As for the referee wow just wow. It wasnt the referees fault that the lad broke his leg. However his job is to apply the laws of the game and on this occasion he did not. Thus further it made the cowden management team and players lose it further by not even giving a foul. I guarantee that if you gave the clip to 10 referees 10 would say it was a red card.(as long as those referees were not gavin ross and elgin fans themselves) Best wishes to Ross on his recovery.
  18. Makes it even tougher now then. Think we just have to plod on and hope no more injuries/illness. Not sure how long until players return as nothing on website to say how long certain players are out for. With Renton though he wont be match fit as wont have played since March etc etc. Big game Saturday and one in which we should win.
  19. Squad is wafer thin now. Brad Smith away back to Broughty. Hay was injured anyhow. Todd looks like he is out for a few weeks. Renton out/cox out or away/robbie suspended?/Morrison out/Sneddon out. We really have issues so not sure what we can do in terms of bringing players in. I dont think SPFL league clubs will want to allow any players out on loan currently due to covid situation e.g their squad could be decimated at any point. Have to look at free agents but then they wont be anywhere near match fit e.g like russell who looked way off the pace saturday. Good news is Pyper is back and had a good game when he came on saturday. Young Jacob Glass deserves to keep his place also. Midfield we are very short in numbers only Kyle Miller/Herd and Barr really Hopefully Gary can bring in a player on loan from an U21 or u19 SPL team similar to Ross Sinclair situation.
  20. The stream will be fine this weekend. Get it bought and enjoy the game.
  21. They are both injured and I think Renton out for a wee while although not sure how long. As for injuries we aint aberdeen with a squad of 22 plus talented youngsters. We are part time with an even lower budget than normal. We actually have players playing with knocks already. Wee bit of slack for some of the lads playing they didnt even get a full pre season and this is where injuries can happen. We cant even fill our bench currently and have a 42 year old coach on bench every week. Russell should be in this weekend or next at least. Would be good if we could sign a couple more players on loan to help the squad. Cowdens issues not doubt stem from not creating enough chances going forward real lack of outlet and threat. Olly Hamilton for me cant play as a lone striker he needs someone up beside him for him to flourish.
  22. The game will be streamed yes. Not sure on price etc but assume will come out in the next few days. Cowden really down to bare bones just now squad wise so hopefully get some players back fit soon.
  23. surely better than playing on a field somewhere random also a lot will have to do with covid environment. Save costs on an all weather pitch somewhere which is normally ridiculously overpriced.
  24. weather to be shocking tomorrow. Pishing rain with horrendous gale force winds... no good.
