  1. Really frustrating day yesterday - lovely conditions, sitting on +4 after 11 holes, putting really nicely. Then proceeded to double bogey 5 of the last 7 holes, mainly caused by poor chipping around the greens. For some reasons, whichever wedge I used kept sliding right under the ball despite the turf being pretty firm. To keep making the same mistake time after time was infuriating when on a really nice score. Grrrr. Still, at least I couldn't complain about the weather

  3. Yeah, good read that. Surprised they missed out his time as Hearts Chairman/Chief Executive, though...
  4. If you're in the Fife area, Wellsgreen use PGA-certified pros and stock pretty much every major manufacturer that you'd need - I found comparing different brands to be most instructive. Good service there, too.
  5. Aye, the usual complaint from greenkeepers in April is that it's too dry and cold to get decent growth in the turf (which really needs a ground temperature of at least 7 or 8 degrees to get going properly) but at least with cold/dry Aprils they can get out and prep everything ready for when they can get the cutters down, so this April has really set everyone back, and I dread to think the last time the majority of courses managed to get their fairways cut this year. I've been saying for years that golf clubs need to get out of the mindset of playing competition golf in late May/early April, instead extending the season into end October/beginning November, as at least most (parkland) courses generally aren't suffering from a high water table later in the season as opposed to after a wet winter.
  6. Hopefully things dry out a bit for you, otherwise you might be better joining the Kirky Kayaks.
  7. The tendency I've noticed is to compare Scheffler with Tiger at every opportunity due to his dominance, but his ball control and demeanour remind me of Nicklaus in the 70's. He's that damn good at the moment.
  8. Aberg's attitude has been superb, I'm looking forward to watching him have a stellar career if he keeps that going.
  9. Say what you like about how boring Scheffler is, but he really knows how to keep his foot on the throat of the rest of the field. Which is somewhat ironic when you consider his fancy dance steps at the point of impact.
  10. Looks like someone went in the bunker and moved it...
  11. Only if you're aiming straight at the flag. Which Scheffler won't with any kind of lead.
  12. Anyone walking back to the tee after losing a ball in a bounce game needs a kicking. Of course, these days, they may be putting a card in for WHS and you've no way of knowing...
  13. Aberg is cool as you like, grinning his way round the course. And he gets on with it when playing his shots. Superb stuff.
  14. It was a 4BBB and my partner was gash so I'm pleading the 5th there (he missed from 18 inches for a Magic 2, let's leave it at that...) I played ok apart from 2 major abominations off the tee - reckon I'd have been close to buffer off my own ball, which was acceptable given the conditions.
  15. Finally managed 18 holes in April yesterday - huge winds, 3 horrible squally showers and ridiculously soft and squelchy conditions. It was bliss. Why we were playing a competition off the medal tees I've no idea, though...
  16. Nice to hear that Bhatia is a Big Country fan.
  17. Perfect, it'll be like Tiger winning on one leg or Stephen Hendry mopping the floor with everyone despite a broken elbow. Easy Money.
  18. I'm mainly on Hideki and Min Woo, with a wee sneaky long-odds e/w quid on Adam Hadwin.
  19. No way can the Augusta Committee be deemed a bunch of reactionary weirdoes. I've been watching the Masters for as long as I can remember, and off the top of my head, here's a rundown of things they've managed to sort out during this time: The "No caddies other than our own" rule. And, of course, all their own caddies were black, so that's hugely progressive! And they retained the painters overalls by way of tribute... Not showing any coverage at all of the front nine. Only showing brief highlights of the front nine. Erm... A comprehensive list, I'm sure you'll agree.
  20. It's so bad, I'm even considering going to the range over the weekend...
  21. Despite the current/recent conditions and weather forecast, Fife Golf Association insists that the final of the North East Fife Winter League (Handicap) Cup between Drumoig and Ladybank will be played at, erm... Charleton, the only non-links or -heathland course in the League. Charleton will not only be a quagmire given the last couple of months, it currently doesn't even have a fully-functioning clubhouse due to a fire in *checks notes* June 2020. Apparently, it's "their turn on the rota" and, despite both finalists requesting other venues, or even that the final be played at a non-neutral venue determined by the toss of a coin, it's off to Charleton we trot. I'm expecting the post-match meal to be a Pot Noodle. Should be fun...
  22. Whatever the reason for members no longer using bar and catering in their club (financial pressures, post-COVID behaviours, cliques), club Committees (and members) need to accept that running bar, and particularly, catering operations very seldom result in surpluses that can be reinvested into the club or offset to reduce fees; they do well to break even, and the fact the the income and expenditure for these items are rolled pretty much across the board rolled into wider club accounts mean the vast amount of committees and members don't even know how much profit/loss these operations are actually running at (particularly where staff in smaller clubs are often doing a bit of admin as well as running a bar - these aspects are very, very seldom cross-costed in meaningful P&L reports). Clubs need to find a way of delivering what their members actually want from their club - and when was the last time your Club ran any kind of meaningful (and regular) member survey to wring this information out? I'll bet if you have completed a detailed member survey over the last five years, it was a one-off exercise that hasn't been repeated. I'll also bet that the majority feedback was about on-course stuff (bunkers, pace of play, availability of morning tee-times on a weekend, etc) rather than the bar offer or the catering menu...
