2010 League Cup Final, losing to nine man Deadco. That takes clarting your nappy in a big game to a new level.

Everyone can probably name a handful that happened to their own team, but this was an all-timer.  Even I felt sick when St. Mirren lost that one.

5-1 Hibs in the 2007 League Cup final was right up there to.

Slighly harsh, I'd say.  I was at the game as a neutral that day and it was just one of those days.  Hibs were absolutely fantastic, with a superb young side, and would've ripped most teams to shreds.

It's been over a decade since this and I am still furious at McCall for his build up to this game. We shat the bed a week before a ball was even kicked.

This, plus the Albion Rovers debacle, means that until my dying day I'll argue that McCall was a very poor Motherwell manager.  Stevie Wonder could have taken us to 2nd spot with the team we had and how poor the rest of the league was at the time.

I've always thought we missed the bus a bit with Ravenscraig.

I dunno. There's still that massive bit of space next to where the College sits.  I know they're building a road through the bit further up but there's still loads of room left, IMO.

That would be alright for me.  Would be on the Fir Park side of the land and you could stoat up the new back road from the Century in 10/15 minutes on a Saturday!

But if it's that some wealthy c**t wants to shoulder a bit of our running costs for a few percent then it's absolutely worth considering.

Surely the first 300,000 questions you ask off the back of this proposal is, on repeat, "why the f**k do you want to do that?  What's in it for you?"

Anything that helps us could be welcomed but anything that may leave us in the shit after everyone has had their fun should be avoided.

    This is massively important, too.

Said similar on the auld Twitter.com last night.  We shouldn't be looking to see what "a family" is claiming they'll put into the club, it's what they're looking to take out.

If enough people look beyond the first to concentrate on the second, we'll be fine.  Do you trust enough Motherwell fans to do that though?

Aye. There's definitely a expectations vs reality issue here.

It's impossible to tell anything from a statement that, lets face it, says very little but at this point I'm far more sceptical of McMahon's judgement than I am of the potential investor(s).

The man's got a legacy to leave...

Quite why any "US based family", or any other fucker for that matter, would want to invest in a club like Motherwell, I have no idea.  However, the majority of football fans are morons so a large section of the support, when it goes to the vote, will simply see some vague promise of $$$ and they'll say "Welcome aboard".

It'll be some laugh when it goes tits up in five years or so.

  6. I don't remember too much of Ian Ross in a Motherwell shirt as I was only a kid at the time and I spent my time pretty much swooning over Tommy Coyne (m'lord!).

Other than his 25-yard screamer against Celtic on Jamie Dolan Day.  It was something like that anyway, wasn't it?  😉

  7. I don't think Wilkinson's issue was his footballing ability.  I think he underestimated Scottish Football and got a bit of a shock when he very quickly realised it wasn't kick and rush fitba like League 1/League 2 in England.

However, as Co-Convenor of The NumberPolis (alongside @crazylegsjoe_mfc) it's heartening to see we've launched #99 & #77 already this season, and realised that #66 is no longer any good and have him nowhere near the side.

I wasn't suggesting that he should have been sold in the last 18 months more that the club should have offered an extension last summer so he couldn't leave this year on a free.

    Do you know they didn't?

Here's a mental thought... maybe they did and the player said no? I suppose after we lost the right to hold a gun to a player's head (thanks for that, Declan) our bargaining position was poor.

Disappointing if true re: Spittal but what do the club expect, letting his contract run out so we won't even get a transfer fee.

Aye, shame on the club for turning down all those cash offers for him over the last 18 months.

A welcome return to the genre of, "Why didn't we sell Randolph for £1m???", that one.

  10. I really just think clubs take a step back here.  It's ok to have made a bad decision.  Probably every poster on here has made a few in their own life.  Businesses do it all the time.  Rather than point and say "well, you can't moan about it now because you decided to go for it in the first place", can we not welcome a club (or clubs) turning round and saying, "Sorry lads, we've fucked it with that one".

If you make a bad decision, fix it.  If that means your tail goes between yer legs and you eat humble pie, so be it.  Don't go and throw more shite at the wall to see if something will stick and possibly make it a bit less terrible.
