I know it's early but any rumours on who is staying who is going ? I know Marco Fraser and Bain all signed new deals sure there was a few others on 2 year deals I did hear in Jan we were going to sign Seth Partick but couldn't cause he had played for too many clubs maybe we will get him now the season is over ?

Don’t think Bain signed? You mean McHattie?

  2. To begin with he was starting games but was fairly anonymous. In the Highland League you need to get stuck in and it remains to be seen whether he’s willing to do that. Seems a bit of a luxury player.

I’m recent weeks he’s been limited to brief substitute appearances and until he starts showing a bit more on the park then I would expect that to continue.

  3. I see Arnott is only getting in at the end of matches recently, is he not working out well for you lot or has someone else edged in front of him?

From what I’ve seen, which is pretty limited to be fair, he isn’t any better than the cebtral midfielders we’ve already got.

Certainly not seeing the player that is “far too good for Brechin City” that Raith fans said when he signed.
  4. If he played 38 games for Brechin last season for a team that finished 2nd in the HL, it doesn’t sound like done to me.  That’s an impressive number at any age.
They wouldn’t have played someone that often when pushing for promotion if he was not at the races.
    Good luck to Iain.

Trust me, he should never have played that number of games and there wasn’t one Brechin supporter that wasn’t baffled by his inclusion every week. We are much better without him in the team.
  5. Quite pleased signing Davo. The squad has certainly improved since the start of the season.

I’m afraid you won’t be saying that after a couple of games. His legs have totally gone and offers nothing.

Brechin fans had been wanting him away for about a year.
  6. Davo away too with him and commie away that's gonna free up alot of wages davo was on a big wage must be bringing some one in

Won’t free up much wages if Davo has been given a package. Can’t see him walking away from that kind of contract 9 months early for nothing.

Hmmmmm. Should have been out of sight by half-time. Some encouraging performances (Patrick, Macleod, Scott); some very worrying ones (McGrath, all the defence).  Rothes looked well off the pace, which makes City’s failure to convert more than one of the dozen chances they had even more concerning.

Defence concerning? Rothes barely had a sniff. Our defence is the best in the league and shouldn’t concede many goals.

Shades of last season where we dominated games and missed countless chances. We really should have won by about 5 goals yesterday but 3 points is the most important thing. Do that every week though and you’ll get punished occasionally.

mcGrath was poor yesterday but showed what he is capable of in pre-season. We need someone to take the burden off him…could there be a development here?

  8. This may be controversial but I think Davidson hasn't been bad in midfield.  McLeod looks raw and think he will take some time to get into the team.

The guy can barely run and puts us under pressure constantly with car-crash passes in dangerous positions. He offers absolutely nothing.
  9. Buckie appear to be going down the route of having a small squad with excellent players, meaning they'll tear everyone a new arsehole until injuries occur. The Broch have lost a couple of boys and didn't exactly have excess bodies about the place to start with so will be needing everyone to step up a bit, including the kids they've given time to in the Premier Sports Cup group. Brora, who knows. Legit signing a new goalkeeper instead of finding a second one on loan again just in case could be a sign Uncle Joe Malin is about done, and if he is they won't win the league.
Brechin should do find this season if they can keep up with Buckie into the new year. I'd say that's the two contenders, with Brora slipping back into the Locos/Formartine/Rothes mess, with Fraserburgh capable of being in either group.

Who have the Broch lost out of interest?

  10. I am concerned that Andy thinks Ian Davidson is a better midfielder than Fraser McLeod.

I’m concerned that Andy Kirk still thinks Davidson still resembles a footballer.

Regardless of his eyewatering wages he is a waste of a jersey and should be benched. Slower than a week in jail and doesn’t give a f**k either.
  11. Agree with this.
Also think we could do with another centre mid.  Not so worried about the striker spot as we have a number of players who can play there - I'd be signing the trialist that's played there as well.
Do think we could use another central midfielder and that's where I'd like to see us bring in a loan signing.

If McGrath gets injured who is going to get us the 25+ goals required?
  12. Is anyone else a bit concerned about the goalkeeping situation?  Presumably we signed Lenny Wilson to be the first choice and with the first league game next week he has been on the bench the last two games.
Is the trialist goalkeeper who has played in the friendlies really up to the standard that we need if we want to be challenging for the league?

Lenny Wilson will be number 1, but I must say I’m a little confused that he didn’t start our final pre-season match ahead of the real stuff next week.

I’m more concerned about the striker situation. We really need someone to support McGrath as likes of Loudon isn’t quite there yet.
  13. I see Buckie are getting their poaching in early, Tom MacLennan, and Cohen Ramsay from Nairn County. Not sure if they have a sugar daddy or are just good at getting local sponsorship and a well run club.

Would these players demand big wages?

So you agree that they're both clearly stronger than Brechin, who will have to go some to overhaul them.  'Unlucky with injuries' isn't quite the zinger you think it is.

No, I'm saying that they have a familiar starting 11 who have a great team spirit having played together for numerous years and they've had the luxury of selecting more or less the same 11-14 players just about all season. As mentioned above, they'll be ridiculously fortunate to be able to continue that consistency of team selection throughout the whole of next season too.

In terms of personel, Brechin have the strongest squad and I don't think many could argue that, but it's one where team selection has only been remotely consistent for maybe a ew months. Think I read somewhere that we've used over 36 players over the course of the season - it was always going to be high whilst we rebuild and adjust to the HL but that should steady a fair bit next season with already over half the squad signed up.

  15. There's zero evidence so far to suggest that Buckie and Fraserburgh wont have 1st an 2nd tied up again next season.  They have the 2 best squads in the league.  Hence why Brechin and Brora will need to recruit very well to finish above them.

There is zero evidence to suggest that they will either. I disagree with them having stronger squads than Brechin (at the moment - whether that’s still the case at the start of next season who knows). What they do have is a solid starting 11 who know each other well and played alongside each other for years.

As I mentioned above both sides have been very fortunate with regards to injuries and if they were to have 4/5 players missing (which Brechin have had most of the season) then that’s where it would tell.
  16. You’re effectively agreeing with what I’m saying. The standard Fraserburgh and Buckie have set is incredible and it’ll continue next season IMO. Hence why your club will need to recruit perfectly to overhaul them.

Not really, I don’t believe that either Broch or Buckie will be as consistent next season. Brechin will have a more settled squad than last summer which will hopefully be of benefit, but we will need to recruit well as you say.

They have had a fair rub of the green in terms of injuries etc.

Yep, depending on the League Two/HL/LL play off final result, the HL next season could have Fraserburgh, Buckie, Brora, BOD and Rothes in it.  Brechin will have to get their recruitment absolutely perfect this summer to win it over that lot.  Guys like Scott Barbour, Sam Urquhart and Jordan Macrae are better strikers than anything Brechin have, and they aren't going anywhere.

You've picked out their star strikers - what about the rest of the squad?

Yes Brechin haven't got striker on 25+ goals like the other three teams but that could well be down to the fact that we've got 4/5 strikers on the books and have chopped and changed these all season. You could probably count on one hand the number of games that Barbour, Urquhart and Macrae have missed put together. If any of these players miss 6+ weeks in a season then I believe they would start to struggle against sides in the top half.

Our season has more or less come down to that collapse from 3-0 up against Fraserburgh. The Broch and Buckie have been remarkable consistent this season but we haven't been far away.
