  1. Having read Scott's original post, I decided to take in the Gretna match today. It has been so long since I have been to Raydale, Hibs have even won the cup . At the start of the match, I feared the worse when I saw the main Gretna striker, he looked so unfit. How wrong could I be, he was the hardest working player on the park. He must have covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Other than him, there was no other outstanding Gretna player. The team just seemed to be well organised and tight in every area. The new management team have certainly got them working well together. Defensively, I think that any team will find them hard to break down this season. I can only think of one effort that the students had on goal, when Jamieson saved well from the near post (Johnny captain??). This was despite the uni team having large periods of being on the ball, they just seemed to do nothing with it. Up front Gretna looked threatening for the majority of the match. I can see why they put six past Whitehill last week (Sir Peter must have been worth hearing). Today they could easily have done the same. There was certainly more than goal between the teams. It was good to be back and it won't be my only visit this season.
  2. EK don't seem to be winning many friends in this league. The Shire fans have fitted in better than the "glory hunters" from the New town. We hardly ever heard from EK fans before this season.
  3. Why do people give that rag any credence whatsoever? Almost as bad as The Sun.
  4. They managed it a couple of seasons ago to get over a player ban. Not that I am bitter or anything.
  5. Gretna £70 which includes all cup matches with the exception of the Scottish Cup. I bought mine on Saturday.
  6. Why? Each club have their own individual circumstances. It should be left up to each club what to charge.
  7. No. If a youth system was in place, certain additional criteria had to be met. However you don't need a youth setup to get the license.
  8. That is correct they are allowed to enter but if they did, (allegedly) a few of the "Edinburgh" clubs based would withdraw due to the increased travelling costs.
  9. I don't thnk that they play their U20 matches at Annan.
  10. I think that if any of the clubs down here joined, you may see an exit of some of the existing clubs. Travel costs at our level prohibit any D&G involvement. What needs to happen first of all is to sort out the ridiculous registration rules that prohibit SYFA registered player's turning out for their parent club.
  11. How many times is Danny Alexander going to mention the Highlands? once already
  12. And where did I say they did? The only connection is the supporters of the old club formed a new club to keep football in Gretna as fine you know. No body who ran the old club has or had nothing to do with the new one. This was more of a personal observation pf the amount of clubs that I have seen playing a club hailing from Gretna who play in black and white,
  13. In a similar vein. It got me thinking about how many clubs Gretna / Gretna '08 have played since the old Gretna were elected into Scottish Football in 2002. These are all clubs that the old and new Gretna have played at least once in official competitions in the last 12 years. I make it 77 and I have seen almost all of them in at least one of the matches played. Abbey Vale Aberdeen Airdrie United Albion Rovers Alloa Athletic Ayr United Berwick Rangers Berwick Rangers EOS BSC Glasgow Celtic Civil Service Strollers Clyde Coldstream Cove Rangers Cowdenbeath Craigroyston Creetown Crichton Dalbeattie Star Derry City Dumbarton Dundee Dundee United Duns East Fife East Kilbride East Stirlingshire Easthouses Lily Edinburgh City Elgin City Eyemouth United Falkirk Fleet Star Forfar Athletic Gala Fairydean Gala Fairydean Rovers (merged but is it officially a different club??) 14. Do the referees give up their time and who pays for the hire of the pitch? I think to charge is fair enough if you are going for an afternoon's / morning's entertainment.
  15. The Scotsman website is saying that there are unconfirmed reports of a number of people being killed. Sad news indeed.
  16. I'll be doing it for the first time in August. I have never been bothered with Midges in the past. Am I in for a rude awakening?
  17. I have a ticket for sale for the Barras gig on Friday. I am selling it for what I paid for it, face value and booking fee, £33. I can't go as I am now having to work Friday evening.
  18. True I am spoiled for choice with WRs. Eric Decker is having a great season so far and Justin Blackmon scored a lot last week after coming back from suspension. He was on my bench last week and had 136 yds receptions and one touchdown. Hard to leave out again. Marshall has has not been brilliant the last three weeks after a great opening two weeks.
  19. I'm in a quandary, do I risk keeping wide reciever Calvin Johnson in my fantasy team? He was injured in the warm up last Sunday so got me no points. He hasn't trained so far this week but could be back for Sunday. He has already gained me losts of points this season so I am loathed to drop him to the bench even for a week. I have Brandon Marshall of the Bears as back up however.
  20. Who gets the chance to get the tickets presale? I first saw them in King Tuts around 1993?? Much to my wife's annoyance (she wasn't there) as she is a massive fan. We must have seen them around a dozen times since in venues all over the country but not The Barrowlands.
  21. We have had to wait three years before we could apply for SFA membership (which is now in). Anyway there is life after death (even though the new club was formed before the old one was technically dead)
  22. Tuesday 5th July Away to Gretna 2008 according to the Gretna website
