  1. Not sure that questioning the integrity of a group of people, with nothing on the line, who he might need to get him a result, is necessarily the genius move that he thinks it is.

They have the option of bursting themselves to prove an idiot wrong or phoning it in and making life difficult for him. I know what would be more appetising to me in that circumstance. I don’t actually think that’s how footballers consciously think when they’re out on the park, but I definitely don’t think I’d be going all guns blazing with doing him a favour in mind.

I see from Owen Coyle Jnr's post on Linkedin that his dad has taken Chenaiyin FC to the play offs in India. Well done to Owen Snr! A celebratory (curried?) fish supper beckons I am sure

Had his weaknesses and blind spots, but up until February last season was the best football I’ve ever seen from a QP team. Clear he wasn’t willing to drink the Beuker Kool-Aid and that’s why he went. Wish him nothing but the very best.

  3. If I was going to rank our last six fixtures in terms of being least likely to win, it’d have been the last two. We just can’t play Morton and United, despite their flaws, are the best team in the division.

We’ve beaten Inverness twice, Dunfermline twice and Arbroath three times. It’s in our hands and we need to go out and play with the intensity that we’ve shown for most of the games Davidson has been here for. Thomas has been a huge miss, so we’ll hopefully have him back. We know we’re good enough to get the results, so it’s time to step up and play with bravery and conviction.

I do fancy the Championship side, whoever it is, to win the playoff. I’d prefer not to test that theory out on us, though.

Couple?  I don't think you've taken anything from us at Cappielow (in the league at least) since 1962.  That's 62 years.

We’ve not played you particularly often in that time. Even then, I can think of a couple occasions where we took a point at Cappielow as amateurs. You can also play well and lose. My point is that we’ve absolutely stunk the place out on every single occasion over the past couple of years.

  5. Ferrie saves almost every clanger for Cappielow. In general, we’re absolute dogshit every time we play there. Not a single decent performance at Cappielow in over the past couple of seasons. In fact, we’ve only really had one decent half of football against them in eight attempts, before chucking a 2-0 lead. Just can’t get any change out of them, whereas other teams around us manage it.

If you were going to make a spurious claim about the kind of person makes up the Open Goal listenership, what would it be?

Mine would be that it’s the kind of guys who think there’s a witch-hunt against David Goodwillie.

Our average points per game is 1.6 under the new manager, which would take us to 44 come the end of the season rather than 54. Probably just enough to avoid the relegation playoffs, but that average will also drop if we don't win down at Somerset on Saturday (and potentially more when it's followed up by 2 even tougher fixtures).

I think some people are underestimating how precarious a position we're still in, to be honest, and I'd rather we got the business done ourselves as soon as possible rather than rely on other teams continuing to struggle. I wish I shared your confidence!

My mistake. I know exactly what I’ve done there. Went to check what our points total would be if we’d averaged Davidson’s total over 36 games and not done the crucial part! I realise I’ve even miscounted the first part, as I had it at 1.5.

I’m not underestimating it, but I’m confident in this group of players and manager. Two defeats since Davidson came in and I don’t think we lose the Ayr one if decisions don’t go against us. Even at Tannadice, we were in it for most of the game. If we throw in a couple of games in a row where we look like we’re dropping off, I’ll feel a little more uneasy than I do now. I’d rather have our squad, our position and our fixtures than Inverness’.

I think it depends on what your objective is for the remainder of the season. If you want us to be in with a shot of avoiding 9th come the end of the season, then drawing or even losing this definitely would be fine since the league is so tight.

I'd much rather it didn't go right down to the wire though. In that case picking up 3 or 4 points from a potential 12 is definitely not ideal, especially with Morton and Dundee United coming up, despite the improved performances.

Dunfermline seem to have turned a corner, and you can't just assume that Inverness won't either. This is our best chance of winning a game until mid-April and I think we do need to be taking advantage of that.

8th is fine, considering where we’ve come from. Keep doing what we’re doing and we’ll achieve that. If Davidson maintains his current points average, we finish on 54 points which will see us safe with games to spare. Even a slight drop off from that should still see us ok.

Inverness are sitting with one win in eight, still have to play all of the top three and come to Hampden. Ideally we’ll pick up a win over the next couple of games and nothing mad happens at their end, but cool heads are needed if things don’t go our way. My major worry is something happening to Wilson or Welsh. If we keep the squad fit, I’ll be as calm as it’s possible to be in the circumstances.

I think we should win this game. I have nothing against Ayr but on the occasions I have seen them this season they are comfortably the weakest team bar Arbroath that I have seen us play. I have been amazed at how they have picked up points as they go along. If our signings are to pay off then they need to in this game. I think they will.

Preparing my face for the barrage of eggs on Saturday.

Not sure. They rattled five past us during the Veldman Sunday League era. We’re a different team now, of course. Think they’re like everyone else in terms of wildly flailing between guff and excellence. Certainly wouldn’t be making either team a particular favourite.

  10. As long as we outrun Inverness, we’re home and dry. Not putting too much onus on must win/must not lose. On paper, they have the toughest fixtures over the next fortnight. We’ve just come off two of the three toughest of the final quarter unbeaten. We’re going to lose between now and the end of the season, though. Important not to start running around with our hair on fire when it does happen, because so is everyone else.
