  1. North of Scotland FA organise the North of Scotland Cup and the U21 league. They presumably still also organise the Inverness Cup, but that's not been contested for years. The North Caledonian FA organise the NCL and associated competitions. Interestingly, since you mention the arguments around senior status, the North Caledonian FA was originally called the North of Scotland Junior FA - although junior didn't refer to the SJFA, just that it was the junior association to the North of Scotland FA. It only became the North Caley FA in the 1980s (after becoming the North of Scotland 2nd XI FA post war).
  2. North of Scotland FA and North Caledonian FA are different entities.
  3. Three regions at the third tier is an absolute non-starter though, I couldn't see any clubs going for it. I could maybe see three tiers at the current HFL/LFL level (or perhaps a tier higher) if League 1 and/or 2 were increased to 18 teams. I personally don't mind the 10 team divisions though from a competition point of view.
  4. I would suggest not googling Fournier gangrene (although it sounds more like he had necrotising fasciitis from a perianal abscess)
  5. There's no appetite for regionalisation at the third tier. Scotland is a small country and doesn't lend itself particularly well to regionalisation, since most clubs are based at most an hour or two apart in the Central Belt. The arguments about derbies and travel have never shown any actual evidence, if fact someone showed a couple of years ago (I can't find the post) that if you regionalised Leagues 1 and 2 into North/South, as an example, there'd be little to no significant change in travel as you'll still end up with clubs in the peripheries regardless. Clubs in League 1 and 2 aren't clamouring for regionalisation, if they thought it would be financially viable, they'd be pushing for it, but they aren't. The national leagues as they are I personally think are fine. Only the League 2 relegation issue really needs sorted.
  6. Hall Russel Utd have confirmed they're returning from abeyance next season.
  7. The stats are here, with the added bonus of the lovely Hannah Fry presenting.
  8. You may think that, I couldn't possibly comment...
  9. Spurs beat Rendall 1-0 Anderson is alright, the food is decent. The Plough is a cracking pub, particularly if you're into real ale.

A good win for Lochbroom as they make their welcome return too. Amongst the other top teams, Avoch showing their credentials by demolishing Culloden. Queen of the South somehow got promoted to the Premiership in about 2030 and appointed him manager in my game. He promptly got them relegated and he ended up at Kilmarnock in the Championship.
  13. ICT wanted to enter a reserve team a couple of years ago. It got rejected by the board. So they decided to loan a load of players out to Fort William instead, for all the help it gave them... The league tightened up the loan rules after that to avoid the situation happening again. I do wonder if theoretically Aberdeen wanted to enter a team, that might turn some heads. I'd hope not, but I think they'd have more sway than ICT. Off the top of my head, it was pre-WW2 that Aberdeen last entered their reserves in the league. Traditionally, the North Caledonian League was the North of Scotland 2nd XI league and contained reserve teams of HFL clubs as well as first teams. Ross County and ICT entered teams up until twenty years or so ago after they entered the SFL. Standard is probably a bit too low now. The league currently has Nairn County and Clachnacuddin reserves in it.
  14. They're supposed to be building a community stadium/pitches on the old IRA playing fields. Supposedly this will be for their women's and youth teams along with Inverness Athletic.
  15. I'm surprised the ever expanding UHI haven't developed anything out at Beechwood campus. Maybe even Inshes, more and more houses, but little in the way of facilities.
  16. Hopefully they get more security of tenure than Inverness City before making big decisions and spending lots of cash. I think they'll struggle with Canal Park, the rugby club have loads of teams and use it practically every day. Shame Grant Street never got the artificial pitch.
  17. Do the clubs even see any of the cash? I thought it just nebulously went into the LFL's coffers. I've made my opinions on this shambles clear before. What an absolute farce this all is.
  18. I never had a problem with people renting out a room on AirBnB during tourist season, but now properties are deliberately been bought to be used as holiday lets, but avoiding regulation. I totally support licencing, just so there's balance between long-term properties and holiday lets, many places have lost that and it's a totally unbalanced market and puts strain on local services. Maybe the tourist tax could be revisited as well...
  19. There's hotels and B&Bs, but many people are looking for short-term lets, particularly with families. Aviemore has always been a tourist destination, so there needs to be this market, but the balance between short- and long-term accommodation has been lost. Last summer, local businesses were struggling for staff, since there's nowhere for workers to rent (along with lack of seasonal workers due to Brexit). Same is happening elsewhere in the Highlands. Inverness is pretty bad now, my old flat that I rented for a few years is now an AirBnB. Much more lucrative for the landlord.
  20. The High Burnside development in Aviemore is almost entirely holiday and second homes. Some of them going for over half a million. Same seems to be happening with the new houses in Kincraig.
  21. I think adding the Inverness was one of the conditions of the district council contributing to the stadium.
  22. https://www.inverness-courier.co.uk/sport/caley-thistle-confirm-they-have-contacted-sfa-over-glasgow-f-309533/ Looks like Caley Thistle Mk 1 have noticed. Can't imagine the SFA would allow the name change.
  23. It's that time of year again when the draw for the North of Scotland's premier summer football tournament is released! An unexpected, but deserved, winner last year in High Ormlie Hotspur beating front runner Pentland Utd on penalties in a Caithness derby at a sun drenched Harmsworth Park. Can they do it again this year? It'll be a tasty start, given they've drawn each other in the preliminary round... A bumper entry this time round with several new teams, several old faces returning and the usual top clubs all meaning another cracking competition beckons. As standard, there's regionalised preliminary and first rounds before the all-in second round of 32 clubs commences. Preliminary Round (22nd April) North High Ormlie Hotspur v Pentland Utd John o' Groats v Lairg Rovers Keiss v Brora Wanderers Lochinver v Lybster Watten v Lochbroom Thurso Swifts v Golspie Stafford South Avoch v Culloden CK Interiors v Black Rock Rovers Clachnacuddin v Kyleakin Fort William v Portree Highland Hospice v Sleat & Strath Inverness Athletic v Maryburgh North West Skye v Tomatin Western Isles North Uist v Iochdar Saints Point v Back Northern Isles Kirkwall Hotspurs v Thorfinn Ness Utd v Kirkwall Rovers First Round (13th May) North Castletown v John o' Groats or Lairg Rovers Helmsdale Utd v Staxigoe Utd High Ormlie Hotspur or Pentland Utd v Thurso Academicals Inver v Lochinver or Lybster Thurso Pentland v Keiss or Brora Wanderers Thurso Swifts or Golspie Stafford v Invergordon SC Watten or Lochbroom v Wick Groats Wick Thistle v Top Joes South Ardersier v G16 Auctioneers v Mallaig Avoch or Culloden v Contin Black Isle Utd v Loch Ness CK Interiors or Black Rock Rovers v Fort William or Portree Clachnacuddin or Kyleakin v Ness City Conon Bridge v Slackbuie Ferrybache v Highland Hospice or Sleat & Strath Fortrose Union v Hill Rovers Muir of Ord v Inverness Athletic or Maryburgh North West Skye or Tomatin v Glen Urqhuart Stratton v Gellions Western Isles Barra v Westside Eriskay v North Uist or Iochdar Saints Harris v Stornoway Utd Lochs v Carloway Ness v Point or Back Stornoway Athletic v Benbecula Northern Isles Kirkwall Accies v Dounby Athletic Kirkwall Hotspurs or Thorfinn v Rendall Lerwick Celtic v Firth Lerwick Thistle v Lerwick Spurs Ness Utd or Kirkwall Rovers v East Utd Stromness Athletic v Orphir Second Round (dates TBC) Ardersier or G16 v Avoch or Culloden or Contin Auctioneers or Mallaig v North West Skye or Tomatin v Glen Urqhuart Barra or Westside v Stromness Athletic or Orphir Black Isle Utd or Loch Ness v Eriskay or North Uist or Iochdar Saints Castletown or John o' Groats or Lairg Rovers or Lerwick Celtic or Firth CK Interiors or Black Rock Rovers or Fort William or Portree v Ness or Point or Back Clachnacuddin or Kyleakin or Ness City v Stornoway Athletic or Benbecula Ferrybache or Highland Hospice or Sleat & Strath v Inver or Lochinver or Lybster Fortrose Union or Hill Rovers v Conon Bridge or Slackbuie Helmsdale Utd or Staxigoe Utd v Muir of Ord or Inverness Athletic or Maryburgh Kirkwall Accies or Dounby Athletic v Harris or Stornoway Utd Kirkwall Hotspurs or Thorfinn or Rendall v High Ormlie Hotspur or Pentland Utd or Thurso Academicals Lerwick Thistle or Lerwick Spurs v Stratton or Gellions Thurso Pentland or Keiss or Brora Wanderers v Lochs or Carloway Thurso Swifts or Golspie Stafford or Invergordon SC v Ness Utd or Kirkwall Rovers or East Utd Watten or Lochbroom or Wick Groats v Wick Thistle or Top Joes

I did this a few years ago with a custom database that added the San Marino league. I took over San Marino Calcio in the Italian leagues (pre-bankrupcy) and Tre Fiori in the Campionato Sammarinese. I managed to get SMC into Serie A after several years, but my initial plan to do it as a youth save was quickly abandoned. Was easy to get Tre Fiori to dominate the San Marino league and the European cash got us turning professional and building a new ground. Very slowly got the San Marino national team to the point of being vaguely competitive, would beat Andorra, Liechtenstein etc, and could play out scrappy draws against some bigger nations. The youth teams started to do slightly better and my U21s almost qualified for the European championships after about 15 years. Problem was any half-decent regen almost always had an alternative nationality and would switch to the higher-ranked nation instead of representing the San Marino national team. I eventually got bored with the save, but now tempted to dig it out again.
