I'd say if we pulled for example high six figures or low seven for Baccus, that would be realistic and a worthwhile exercise.
Plus there is the money we get for him actually being there. The earliest they can go out is Saturday now, so that's Day 14. Plus we get the 14 days before.
28 days at roughly £9,000 a day is just over £250K. That's not too shabby.

I doubt the Dunne deal will happen this window. More likely to go in January.
So are you saying it's not.a Dunne deal then?

He has a young family so I'd imagine a move to Morecambe was a no go but Paisley is only half an hour along the road.
It’s a fair point, but given that he comes from Paisley, isn’t it Motherwell that’s ‘half an hour along the road’?

Or as Elvis would say, it's the worst sit-in in town.

Couldn't care less if he's good. A random player I've never heard of is exactly the type of exciting shit I want.
Last game for Leicester was on 8 January in a cup tie against Watford. Got a game because Leicester had only 8 regular outfield players available from their 25 man squad named for the league. Was substituted at half time, as already on a yellow card and was one (mistimed) tackle from being off. Was replaced by Wanya Marcai-Madivadua because of that arcane FA cup rule that you can't replace a starting player with one that has a less exotic name.
Having said all that, he was being played as a full back on his 'wrong side' so was hung out to dry a bit by circumstances. I follow Leicester closely (since living there in the 80s and the 'good' old days under Jock Wallace when, apart from Lineker, the line up was almost entirely Scottish) and while he hasn't kicked on as hoped, he is not a complete disaster and could do a good job if he settles. His first game will be important.

Any St Mirren fan looking for a pre/post match square go is more than welcome to PM me.
In the very early days of P and B, I remember some Ross County fan on here threatening to pelt our buses with tins of spam, prior to a midweek away game. Haven't seen the likes on here since.
You haven't fallen on hard times and moved south from Dingwall have you?

Claudio Ranieri at Leicester would fit the remit quite well.

We seem to have spent ages looking at him, so there must be something about him. Wil be interesting to see what he brings.
Can we all just note the "ei" spelling if his name, though. Let's not have another 'Morais' debacle.
So, no space here for 'Saints and Greavsie' patter then?

I was at that game with my dad. Only time we ever went to the football together. We are almost certainly in the picture.
England goal greeted with absolute silence around us and a sizeable number didn't even know they had scored. I only saw it because I was on my dad's shoulders at the time. No scoreboards anywhere, at least none visible from our position. I remember some bloke in front of me at half time saying we were doing alright but nil-nil probably fair. Him and several others couldn't be persuaded we were losing 1-0 - nearly kicked off a brawl.

Not only that, but backed up by an ECG before the sub is allowed on the pitch.
So the concussion substitution rule only applies if someone develops an unusual heart rhythm mid-game in addition to possible concussion? Who knew?

The mids 90's were about last year to a lot of folk - to me Wednesday is still the proper mid week night (as it is the middle of the week) and still cant get my head around games being on a Tuesday.
Yeh, but if weekend games are played on a Saturday (which they mostly are) and you have a midweek game, then you have 3 games in 8 days and 5 free days. So neither Tuesday or Wednesday is perfect.
If the Saturday games both start at 3.00 pm then the midweek game should kick off at 3.00 am on the Wednesday for parity. 7.45 pm on the Tuesday is 7 and a quarter hours too early, but 7.45 pm on the Wednesday is 16 and three quarter hours too late.

Be interesting to know the last, non-OF, side who had 3 strikers all score 5+ league goals tbh, genuinely have no idea how common that is.
Was it Hibs, way back in 2020-2021? Depends how you define "strikers".

He reminds me of Melamed, tbh. Useful in the box, will shoot first time almost every time and scores quite well, but something missing from his game.
I know how this post will go down, but it genuinely looks like Goodwin is just trying to copy us from last season. Main is your aerial workhorse like Kane, Brophy is your hard worker who likes long range shots like May. You've then got Kiltie as an attempt to replicate Wotherspoon, while Tanser was obviously ours last season. We crossed more than every side outwith the OF last season, and Goodwin wants to go down that route, and presumably you'll sign a pacey winger to be your MOH. Set up will be 3-5-2 or 3-4-3.
Interesting to see if that ends up being the case and how it goes, took us a long time to get it working.
Why would we copy you lot, ffs? Surely our ambitions are higher than a top 6 finish, a Scottish cup win and a League cup win?

In any hypothetical talk about sides from different eras playing each other, you surely have to assume both operate under the same conditions. So, if you want to compare the Fergie’s Furies side against any modern side, in my opinion, you must hypothetically have that Fergie’s Furies side with modern training methods, diet, physio, boots, strips, balls, quality of playing surface. Or, assume the more modern team would operate with old style balls, kit, shitey surfaces, having the odd Woodbine, and possibly a dram before taking the field.
Given the application of these hypothetical conditions to the hypothetical debate, my opinion is this… the Fergie’s Furies team would absolutely kick the fcuking arse of any modern St Mirren team I’ve seen into the middle of next week..
An interesting match would be prime time Fergie’s Furies v the 2013 League Cup winning team. I know who my money would be on, but by golly, I’d pay to see it.
A good point about eras, but another way to look at it is to ask how good they were relative to the other teams in the league in a particular season. By that criterion, the 79-80 Jim Clunie side (built on Fergie's furies plus Doug Somner) is the best St Mirren team of my lifetime. Genuine title contenders in March and Anglo-Scottish cup winners against some quality opponents and Sam Allardyce.

Indeed he did. For those of us in the Tudor Arms that hadn't finished our pints when Toshie's bus was leaving.

In all seriousness this is a major worry for me. After the last cup win in 2014 everyone seemed to spend the Summer patting themselves on the back, and we ended up selling May and scrambling around to replace him to the point the best option was Brian Graham on loan. Long term it forced "glory hunter" fans away as we had to shitfest that entire season.
Its still early but I'm fearful we're all about to witness a club stagnating due to success again. Kiltie is a top 6 signing for any club, in terms of now and in the future.
Clearly I'm no Fergie - If we ever win two cups in a season, RG, I'll be quite happy to "stagnate" for the next season or two.

We got very lucky last year with centre halves all things considered and most games where we did play 4 at the back, McCarthy and Shaughnessy were almost always available as our paining. It makes sense for us not to expect that again this season.
Yes we did. And it was exactly the same the season before, if I remember rightly, before the shut down. Hopefully next season we'll go in with some deeper options at the back. We had a good defensive record last year but we always seemed to be one injury/suspension away from calamity.
