  1. Thought i'd chance my luck this morning on the sale date of Atalanta tickets for their away game at Liverpool next Thursday. After a slight hitch, where it said i was ineligible to buy (i had told the truth and entered my UK passport details and place of birth as Scotland), i simply picked a place of birth in Italy from a drop down menu and using the same genuine UK passport number was the proud owner of a ticket!

Staggered it was that easy, looking forward to being in an away end with some mental Italian ultras, hope they don't beat me up!

  2. Quick GIS of Euro 2020 to refresh my memory brings up a mixed bag...

We did wear all navy in all 3 games

Spain and Germany fucked it off and wore their traditional shorts more often than not

England did too on occasion but also wore all white against us and in the final v Italy....

Where Italy wore blue shirts and NAVY shorts??

    What a mess!

  3. FIFA put that into World Cup regulations from the 2014 tournament but I don't think it's been followed for any of the Euros in that time as I recall. In my mind it always seems to swing back to classic kits (Germany black shorts, Spain blue etc) during the UEFA tournament as it always takes me a bit by surprise again by the time the next WC comes round

    Please indulge me.

That one league defeat this season I recall saying was a freak match and result. But the reaction to that from the players and management was solid, three wins on the trot, and following the cup loss, to go 11 winning games in a row is fantastic.

I've very few fears (!) that this team will positively react to any minor set-back as the season progresses, and will be ecstatic if/when the title is sealed.

On the subject of winning a title and with respect to @Francesc Fabregas, the Warriors were highly competitive in the late 'fifties and early 'sixties, and were very close to the title in 60-61. With a game in hand on eventual winners Stirling Albion (SFC on 33 games, Albion on 34 in a 36 game season), the Ochilview club went to Annfield and took the lead in a crucial game on a strangely waterlogged pitch, only to get bogged down and well beaten by the home side.

Stenhousemuir finished five points behind at the season’s end: prior to that defeat the Warriors had won 10 matches in a row.

As an aside, to illustrate how football has changed, Stenhousemuir scored 99 league goals that season, and lost 69.

To conclude this ramble, here's a Stenhousemuir team photograph from, I think, that game mentioned above at Annfield.

The legend goes that Stirling Albion actually called in the local fire brigade and gave the pitch a good hosing down before that game as they thought they'd have the advantage on a boggy pitch. Not sure how much truth there is to that, but it's pretty popular folklore round FK5, i think the story was even included in Bill Lothian's Stenhousemuir history tome 'Onwards & Upwards'

  5. This is available here, albeit on a subscription network.

FiteTV (TrillerTV+) is about £6.99 a month (depending on dollar exchange). They also do a 7-day free trial if you wanted to strategically wait for the semis/final week. They also have the coverage of the Portuguese League in the UK and the Asian Champions League (though that doesn't recommence 'til mid-Feb)

Won't be dabbling myself as not all that interested, might do the free trial if there isn't anything on the box for semi-finals/final week, but in case anyone is interested

  6. I thought Gretna had done 14 twice that season? Maybe one of the earlier run was a cup win?

Either way, i think 14 will be the highest, without having a deep dive i can't think of that having been bettered in L2/3rd Div

East Kilbride won 30 straight in the Lowland League in 2016 and claimed a world record at the time, but that was across 15/16 & 16/17 i think so obviously was helped by no promotion. Perhaps East Stirling fans can tell us more about that, that was the year they moved into their new permanent division so witnessed the feat at close quarters!

If a team was posting those numbers in L2/3rd Div they're obviously not going to be around for a second dip at the total the following season. So for form's sake i think considerations should be kept to single season totals!

  7. Jarell Quansah at Liverpool has a Scottish grandparent apparently. Unlikely to make the leap while in the current England U-21 team, he will fancy his chances to go all the way with England. But worth an eye for the near future if he doesn't break through

  8. Couple of young lads live on the telly just now. TNT Sports 1 coverage of the Man Utd Vs Bayern Munich UEFA Youth League game.

We have, for Man Utd, centre half Louis Jackson and Malachi Sharpe, who's playing on the right hand side of a front three. Both capped for Scotland U-19

I looked at getting a membership for me and my boy but didn't because I wasn't clear how easy it was going to be to get two seats together when we went down (and three if my mate was going). Any idea how that works and is getting seats together relatively straightforward?

Yes easy enough, if you link multiple memberships to a master account you can buy seats together in one transaction. Obviously need one membership per ticket bought though.

I have 3 with my girl's accounts so if you needed multiples this season i could help you out with that. Would be 1x Adult and 2x Junior, but i'm pretty sure once tickets are bought you can contact the ticket office and pay an upgrade to make a junior ticket an adult.

Out of interest, how easy is it to get tickets for an Everton game? Quite fancy going to one before they leave Goodison.

I'm off the matches at the moment due to new twin babies in the house, still making evening games as they are decent sleepers but 12:30pm/3pm/5:30pm KO's are off limits for me at the moment. (Only managed Burnley so far this season, with Newcastle and Fulham to come in December!)

If you need a ticket for a home game i can get one for you with my membership (or anyone else for that matter) for the time being.

Bear in mind it's only one so no use for folk wanting to sit together, and would need notice of what you wanted as games generally go on sale a month before each match (eg Newcastle game on the 7th December just went on sale yesterday the 6th November.) Really need to get them on first couple of days once on sale for most games, and pretty much day of sale for your Liverpools, Manchester C/U's etc.

Disclaimer: Will still be going to the derby whatever time that ends up being, snuck that in as a non-negotiable to make me feel like i have some control still!

  11. I always look at who's worked at a higher level but maybe been struggling to get another gig for a while.

Tommy Wright for example, could we tempt someone like that to drop down to get back into the game? No idea what he'd want paying, and would imagine he'd be disappointed not to get a shot at something like the NI gig recently so likely wouldn't be looking to take up a post in L2 but that's what my thinking would be, without obviously knowing the ins and outs of our budget

Not necessarily him but looking in that kind of direction.

Would be perfectly happy with Danny Lennon though, he's done the business at one point or another and really shouldn't be taking a genius to get us going with our squad so recent failures wouldn't necessarily put me off that one.

  12. I've caught a fair bit of this, mainly by watching on catchup overnight on quiet night shifts.

Brecel-Patrick, Allen-Lee and Ronnie-Bai were all entertaining fare, as was Ding-O'Connor today, Donaldson-McGill beforehand though was an absolute slog. Not surprised to see Ronnie out today, wasn't looking at all himself against Woolaston

  13. Runcorn Linnets 2-1 Macclesfield

Northern Premier League: Division 1 West clash between the table-topping visitors and a home side firmly in the play-off positions. Very open end to end game. The home side, (who lost the promotion play-off up to the Northern Premier League proper last season against Marine) were probably the better side first half, yet found themselves 0-1 down to the leaders about ten minutes before the break.

The game turned 5 minutes later with a straight red for a proper forwards two footed lunge by the Macclesfield number 9, apparently on his debut! Two minutes into the 2nd half a peach of a free kick from the edge of the box restored parity. An injury to the Macclesfield keeper (a Brazilian lad on loan from Liverpool) proved to be the second turning point, with no sub goalie on the bench we got the always exciting sight of an outfield player pulling on the top. To be fair the Macclesfield defence managed to keep his shot stopping interventions down to a minimum but with 20 minutes remaining they conceded what was to be the winning penalty with a lazy leg out tackle on the edge of the box.

Both teams should be in the running for the title in this division come the end of the season.PXL_20221122_203307133.thumb.jpg.b084a7a71dcf522cc9d0fd741267173b.jpgPXL_20221122_213516372_MP.thumb.jpg.11b5d7a2790f942bff5757cf4acac198.jpg

Impromptu fireworks display right outside the ground seemed a weird seemingly-unrelated interlude with 10 mins remaining but did serve to gee up the loud celebrating home fans further as the game closed out. The game apparently marked a record 1,080 attendance for a league game for the home team

No sign of Macc DoF Robbie Savage, though they did include Ex-Palace, Leicester and Guyana international Neil Danns

  14. Hello!

Never dipped into this thread before as Kid A is 19 now and it wasn't around when the world imploded and she was created!

Now, six months short of 20 years later, B&C are on the way. Identical twin girls due on December 22nd.

Anyone in the twin club? I've been buzzing since that early scan back in May, though Mrs Christophe has had a few wobbles trying to get her head around it. It is quite the thing, planning and budgeting for one only for everything to double! We are only 4 weeks or so away now and i forgot how fast everything goes, the time really does run away from you!

Have to agree, had many cheery wee visits to Cliftonhill. Only made it to the Rock once with a QoS mate about 10 years ago. Missed both ICT visits there which is a bummer as I've seen them play at nearly every league ground, and 55 in total.

It's quite important for me to get a decent photy as part of the experience. I stumped up the cash and visited the castle and got a shot from above. Unfortunately the castle is closed right now.

I saw a good pic on FB the other day, taken from the other side of the park, but the guy had used a drone to get the height.

It really is an absolute crime that they done one stand in that place, and gave it an 100% ZERO vista of the tourist attraction sight right on its, LITERAL, doorstep!
