Really? Name one former Lanarkshire (traditional boundaries minus Glasgow) ex-junior club people are screaming that about at the moment. Beyond Clydebank and Pollok, the former west region clubs that are by far the most likely to be heading towards the SPFL in the years are pretty much all in Ayrshire. There was a time when Cambuslang Rangers, Baillieston, Blantyre Vics and Larkhall Thistle would probably have been part of that sort of conversation if the pyramid had been introduced a few decades earlier but not nowadays. I doubt it would have been any different for Albion Rovers, if they had been a junior club. Just way too easy to get to Ibrox and Parkhead.

You seem to miss the point.

When potential is discussed on here it is clubs from large towns who attract crowds of a few hundred with stadiums similar to cliftonhill that are put forward.

This is ridiculous, this thread. Where’s all the animosity gone?

Of course Tynecastle that night, Jackie McNamara always getting sent off against us but worse for me was the 0-0 at EEP when dirty Pars were reduced to 10 men early on then took all the ballboys away and booted the ball into touch for an hour.

We hate them. They used to hate us. It’s all gone a  bit indifferent and beige.

Channel last game at old Broomfield, Stevie Cooper at Broadwood or Martin Hardie at EEP. Get it up em!

Ohh and better if we try and improve on converting 1/10 in ten shots at goal.

You generally find teams forget they hate Airdrie till they play us.

We still have that special charm.

The OP about the incident seemed full of justification tbh, and the reaction of most of the Airdrie posters over the last couple of pages is why you've got such a rancid reputation.

Fwiw the term "coloured" is quite simply not correct, no harm no foul if you didn't know but it shouldn't be used.

Condemning it gives us a rancid reputation?

It also wasn't me used the term 'coloured'

Nope, I wasn't. Also I didn't need to be to know how genuinely bad this episode was and the retelling here makes it sound like it wasn't really that bad. People who were associating with the club by openly being fans, dressed up like the KKK in the middle of a town and then went to the match still in these costumes. There is no joke, no stupid joke, no humour, nothing but offensive, bigoted behaviour that did real, long lasting damage to the reputation of the club and the fanbase.

It's genuinely blowing my mind here that I am having to justify this view to not one, but two grown, adult people and I am the only one apparently in the last two pages who is seeing this.

I know you want something to be super offended at but no one has justified it and all would agree it was horrendous.

For the sake of your blood pressure try to move on.

He called it a "joke" directly, he pointed out that one of the racists was a "coloured lad", which should be an immaterial detail here, but was stressed twice within the "retelling". He made it clear that the good folks of Gretna thought that people dressing up as a horrendous group of racist murderers and roaming their town was all a tremendous wheeze and not in any way abhorrent behaviour. He then went in on a newspaper who while doubtlessly adding their own sensationalist hyperbole had decided to report on, y'know, a bunch of people dressing as a group of racists for TWO days consecutively and roaming about thinking this was a great laugh.

So yeah. Forgive me for not exactly thinking "this seems a neutral, facts based retelling of one of our clubs darkest hours" with this version of the events.

One of the clubs darkest hours? Are you new to supporting Airdrie?

This is a horrendous post on every conceivable level.

Wearing KKK garb is never acceptable. It's not funny, it's not a joke, it's not banter.

The "coloured guy" (that's not the terminology btw) angle just makes it smack of "I can't be a racist, I know a black guy" mentality.

None of this was a misjudgement.

"The daily Star got some photos". They were wearing KKK costumes in public. It's pretty newsworthy.

It's been a blight on our club for years. There is no justifying it.

He was telling you the story. Not justifying it.

The Daily Star story had it as targeting a Gretna player, which it wasn't.

And before you think I trying to justify anything I thought it was horrendous at the time and nothing has changed.

I read in an article a few months ago that the plan was to return to Grangemouth, however the impression I got was that they were looking for a new place to play and would not be returning to Grangemouth Stadium. I’m wondering now though if they’ll stay at Ochilview as that’s a ground that meets licensing criteria and not sure if Grangemouth Stadium or any other venue in the area would be suitable for a licensed club.

I haven't been in the stadium in about 20 years so can't comment what its like. With grounds like Caledonian Braves, Bonnyton and Gartcairn you would imagine something could be done at little kerse, although I believe there was a previous falling out there.

In fairness, Syngenta have stated their intention to return to Grangemouth in the future.

With Syngenta gaining a licence has that but a stop to moving to the Grangemouth stadium? I was under the impression that had been the plan.

  9. Thankfully I don't go near Facebook so I miss most of it but from what I see in screen shots there are a few Airdrie fans desprate to jump on anything negative from Airdrie supporters and a minority who will defend every thing.

For what its worth what happened with the Cove fans on Saturday was wrong on so many levels. I hope the guy recovers soon. I'm not sure if the club releasing a picture of 3 guys will be helpful in the long run as it doesn't really show much and could possibly harm any investigation by the police.

The instagram account who sent the messages to Shay Logan is allegedly a young kid. Not that, that makes it right though.

I can't see the Rico Quitongo tribunal going in his favour. Have heard stories about the guy for years.

Wouldn't it be fantastic if we could focus on the football though?

    Hi lads,

Through for the cup final this Sunday. How rammed do you reckon the pubs will be in Airdrie with the old firm game being on ?

Can you normally get in somewhere near enough kick off or do places get so busy they turn folk away/regulars only ?

The Albert bar, which is the last pub in town centre before the ground is normally regulars only when there is an OF game. I'd imagine other pub's will be ok though.

Reports of a Cove fan being attacked and put in hospital make me feel sicker than the late equaliser.

The one positive you could take from Yesterday was the fact such a big support turned out.

However, when our supporters’ bus was attacked by Celtic fans we were quick to condemn their actions. This seems like the same in reverse and we need to do the same.

Sincere apologies to Cove. no one should be attacked at the football.

Some of our supporters need to recognise that the days of football violence are gone. With CCTV and Camera phones, they also run the risk of being easily identified and having a really negative impact on their lives.

Very sad to hear fans minding their own buisness being attacked.

Their will be fighting at football, pubs, night clubs etc as long as groups of young men who have been drinking are gather at them. Cctv, camera phones and anything else won't stop it. Growing up will stop the individuals though.

It always looks more when you are in the main stand and looking over the crowd - plenty of gaps from just before the halfway line to the Petersburn Road end...pack them all together and the main stand was about half full...still very good but the figures are accurate, there was just under 200 Cove fans.

From the middle of the main stand to the Petersburn road end was emptier than the craigneuk avenue end but i remain highly sceptical that the main stand was much less than half full.
