  1. That's nothing to do with the football club. The Edinburgh City Social Club and the football club are 2 completely different entities. The whole FC Edinburgh debacle cast a light on that.
  2. Is the Colin Campbell involved, the same one who ran a sports shop down Inverleith?
  3. I only pointed out as I was pulled up for my wording of the term 'consistently' successful. Their glasses.
  4. Hence the quotation marks. Neither of the 3 of us have probably been as successful as we perhaps should be, but in the context of Scottish football, there's no mistaking that we are historically the biggest 3 clubs outwith the Old Firm.
  5. Not what I said at all. Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs have won a fair bit more than any other club in Scotland outside the OF, so have perhaps earned the right to be known as a big 5 with them. But my wording of 'consistently' being successful requires context as was pointed out earlier. Wasn't a knock at Aberdeen as the amount of trophies they've won in a more condensed period is impressive. But Aberdeen's honours list at present, ranges from 1947-2014, of which majority of them all came in the 70's and 80's. Hearts' ranges from 1891-2012, and Hibs' from 1887-2016. There aren't many clubs in Scottish football with such a broad date range, from their oldest to their most recent successes, therefore have consistently been successful throughout Scottish football history. You are correct about the majority, but the 3 Scottish Cups between 1998-2012 was a particularly impressive feat for its time. We also won 2 league titles and 4 Scottish Cups before the Titanic sank, so throughout the ages, we've been consistently a strong team. That's just of course silverware, which in Scottish football is generally rare. If we look at league placings, Hearts have never gone more than a few years without a top 3 finish save for a barren period between 1965 and 1986. As I said above, Aberdeen's trophy haul is impressive though considering the shorter time frame between successes.
  6. Just ignoring the 3 Scottish Cups between 1998-2012? In fact, only 1 of our 8 Scottish Cup wins came in the 1950's.
  7. Yeah that's true. I'd say consistently Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen are the most successful outwith the OF, but then one might argue that the vast majority of Aberdeen's successes came in one golden era.
  8. Yeah it is a joke that our own broadcasters are totally downplaying the league. Sky aren't much better either. Outsiders (and many natives) look at our league as wildly boring because only 2 teams can win the title every year, but scratch beneath the title race and there's one of the most competitive leagues in Europe there. It was only 3 years ago that Hearts were relegated and only the season before last where both Hibs and Aberdeen finished in the bottom 6. It's a notoriously difficult league to predict aside from the big 2. And for me, there's always been a big 2, and the rest. I agree there's a 'big 5' in historical terms, but it's a bit of a nonsense term. Just like when the EPL went from having a 'big 4' to a 'big 6' because City got money and Spurs became quite decent.
  9. Yeah exactly. Prospective players to Hearts, Hibs and Aberdeen probably drive a hard bargain. Also the aforementioned clubs are often gazumped by English League clubs when it comes to salary. We definitely have more cash in the bank, higher income, more valuable assets etc. and our wage bills are bigger, but doesn't necessarily mean we've got rakes of surplus cash to spend on players. We've got a bit more leverage to 'get things wrong' than the smaller clubs in the league I'd say, but we're probably a lot closer to these clubs than we'd like to imagine.
  10. This is it tbh. On paper, there is a big 5 in the top-flight, but due to the financial landscape of the game and the fact that the Edinburgh clubs love providing the rest of the country endless banter, there isn't actually a lot between Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen and the rest of the league. Certainly not as much disparity as there is with the OF and the rest of the league. Sure, Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen are 'richer' and can generally attract a higher level of player, it's actually a lot more difficult than that in reality. We end up signing much of the same shite that rest of the Premiership does, we just spend a bit more money doing it.
  11. My missus certainly gives me much of the same, but the odd thing totally goes over her head too. I was looking at my banking app last night and noticed the chippy Tony's showing up as 'Tony?s'. Thought it would be funny to show her and just keep shouting 'Tony's?' in an inquisitive manner until she got it. She stared at it for a good minute or so while I repeated the punchline on loop, only for her to reply 'How was it only £3?'.
  12. I like being a pedantic **** at the best of times tbf. With her and the kids especially. Can't have them think for even a second that they're intellectually superior to me. I won't allow it.
  13. Not been on much lately, but here's one from a couple of weeks ago: Me: 'I'm not going out on Tuesday with C (my mate) because it's him and R's anniversary' Her: 'When's their anniversary like?' Me: 'Eh, well Tuesday, 1st August, funny enough' Her: 'Aww that's M's (our baby) birthday' Me: 'Eh? M was born on March 1st' Her: 'Aye well you know what I mean, like her monthly birthday' Me: 'Is that how it works now? In that case don't go making plans for August 12th as that's my 29 year and 10 month birthday' (my birthday is 12th October obviously) Her: '*laughs* no, that would be 12th September ya halfwit' then walked out the room all happy with herself. Genuinely the only conversation with her where I think I've wanted to bang my head off a wall.
  14. She's definitely posted this on a forum of her own somewhere in a thread call 'Out of the mouth of pedantic arseholes' You are of course correct, but unofficially, I'd say anything directly north east of the roundabout is basically Leith, down to the water. Stayed in Elm Row for a few years and was never once questioned for saying I stay in Leith.
  15. Killie will be tough to beat, especially after a trip to Norway and them off the back of a win vs Rangers. I'm going to predict a fairly turgid 1-1 draw.
  16. Fair enough, cheers. Hopefully a successful season ahead. Plenty positives to take since the new gaffer came in. Hopefully a title winning season.
  17. Is there any particular reason for Mussy friendlies to be at Ainslie Park lately? Works going on to Olivebank? I went by on the bus a couple of weeks ago and noticed a new fence along the back road meaning you can't see in.
  18. Also the club playing as Civil Service Strollers in the Sunday amateurs was formerly Silverknowes. They were whipping boys 2 seasons ago when in my teams league, but last season they strengthened significantly, mainly due to having a lot of Edinburgh North boys playing for them. They're now back in my teams league, the Sunday Morning Championship, so curious to see how they look. They have done. Was only 2 years ago they organised the FNT Summer Cup which many LEAFA teams from Saturday and Sunday participated in. Like you say, they had 3 teams on the go at one point, a Saturday, a Sunday morning and a Sunday afternoon. Ahead of the 2022/23 season though, only the Sunday afternoon team remained as Saughton Sounders. Their Saturday team is/was the aforementioned Edinburgh North while their Sunday morning team rebranded as Broomhall and have just been promoted to the Sunday Morning Premier League. Their Sunday afternoon team however folded during the 22/23 season campaign, meaning they're no more. Not sure exactly where it all went wrong, but Sean Burt who was heavily involved with them and managed at least one of their teams, got a first team coaching position at Hearts Ladies, so stepped back from Saughton. I believe he's now Eva Olid's assistant manager.
  19. It will be either Faroese side Víkingur Gota or Andorrans Inter Club d’Escaldes for Hibs but there can also be no excuses. Let’s be honest, these are two teams hardly anyone has heard of and they must be dispatched accordingly by Lee Johnson’s side Aye, cos everyone in Andorra and Faroe Islands knows Hibs right enough.
  20. You say that now, but I'm starting to get the feeling this could be the best chance you guys have to finish 3rd for a wee while. Aberdeen will likely hit a sticky wicket when the European games come thick and fast, and nothing about Hearts right now fills me with confidence. That's not to say other clubs can't finish 3rd, but on paper, who actually could? If Hibs can start the season strong, then who knows. That said, dare I say Hibs have a wee bit more pressure on them this season. Hearts and Aberdeen can play the rookie managers card, but Hibs can't. And LJ will no doubt be under a bit of pressure to get things right at Hibs among the fans. Whether he can or not, I've no idea. And nor do you probably.
  21. I think the way I'm going in this current job, I'm not THAT far away from getting to the point where I am miserable and start losing the will to live doing it. I've been down this road before in jobs and it's a right old slog trying to get out and find something new. Again, I don't have that luxury of a specific skill or qualification that can earn me a job the same or better, at the drop of a hat. If she can get herself in a good job in the near future then it would be good to maybe drop hours here, or take a career break altogether. Then like you say, I can cherry pick jobs and go for something I want to do.
