Learning a new language. How did you do it?
Ross. replied to Pens_Dark's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
I ended up watching the same movies multiple times, English ones with the German subtitles, German ones with the English subtitles. Definitely found the former easier to pick up bits and pieces from, but the latter also helped though it usually took a bit of pausing and rewinding. -

Children’s books. Also, watch movies you have seen before with subtitles on and just read the subtitles, or watch movies in that language with English subtitles on. -

Met Michael Sheen in South Africa around 10 years ago, he was sat at the table next to mines in a restaurant in Camps Bay, Cape Town. I said something like “You’re that guy out the movies?”, his reply was “I am”, and that was it. Lucky for me that was it, because I thought he was Simon Pegg or Martin Freeman. Met a few footballers out in the wild, Larsson probably the most famous of them, and once served a pot of tea to that Doric wifie from River City. Would occasionally see John Higgins and/or Alan McManus in the Lucky Break in Clydebank going back 20/25 years. They were pals with another pro who practiced in there whose name I have absolutely forgotten. Quite embarrassing watching them practice, while we played on a table a few metered away missing straight pots a few inches from the pocket.

On the first part, I think the two examples you use are quite apt. A lot will come down to the circles you mix with and how you perceive yourself amongst your peers. She had done a fair bit of modeling work so probably compared herself to the girls she knew from that background, rather than the lot she went to Uni with(I knew one of them, which is how I met her). Likewise, I know a couple of guys over here who are billionaires, or certainly close to it. If that was me I’d have jacked in work and flung myself balls deep into spending it, but they compare themselves to the guys the founded companies with, or competitors in that respect, and they still feel they need more to compete.

I struggled to see what was in it for her to be honest, not that I was complaining.

Went out with a girl a long time ago who was, without question, an absolute worldy. 10/10 looks with no make up, flawless skin, long legs, magnificent arse, small waist and toned stomach. She stood out as spectacularly gorgeous even in groups of incredibly attractive women, and was constantly being chatted up by men(and women, for that matter). She only had a b cup and always said she wanted to get them done, which she eventually did(after we’d parted ways). She absolutely didn’t do it to attract anyone. I think in her case it was because it was the only thing about her anyone could possibly say anything negative about, which, given her looks was not that unusual due to the levels of jealousy she would cause others to feel.

Rapist sentenced to community service
Ross. replied to ICTChris's topic in The General Nonsense Forum
I agree with the lawyer. Less weight should be given to his identity and more given to his crimes. After doing that they should increase the sentence. -
