Wonder if he and senior officer who refused to allow the Packer line of enquiry to continue in 2005 were in same Lodge?

The rumour that he had his “brothers” sort him out on this has been going around since I first heard of the case.

  2. Had been planning on adding to the watch thread early this year but ended up spending the money on these instead. The other set I have go up to 24.8kg each, these go up to 41.8kg. Still doing the same workout I have been doing for the last 18-24 months but had maxed out on a few of the sets and was finding it too easy. Only added a couple of kg onto the chest press and squats but finding a huge difference in the effort required. Onwards and upwards for another couple of years, I hope!

  3. Lots of strands to this

Social media and instant messaging/sms/WhatsApp from a young age mean people learn to communicate in a vastly different way to previous generations. In the past you had no choice but to speak to people face to face or at worst over the phone, no matter how much you disliked it you were forced to learn how to do it. Nowadays so much more communication is remote, by the time a lot of people start working, they haven’t developed the interpersonal skills they need at the same rate as all us old c***s.

Mental health issues in general are now taken seriously. I’m only 41, but the shift in attitudes since I started working in that respect is night and day. An ex of mines once sat in on a hearing with a girl who had been off work for a few months, the girl had mentioned some health problems which contributed to her eventually receiving treatment for depression. After the meeting the regional manager made a private comment to the two folk who had been in there as witnesses(my ex being one) that the cause of the health problems was probably the girls husband going in the wrong hole dry, and that they should be doing all they could to get her off the payroll. Nowadays most big companies will do everything they can to support the mental health of any employee they can, even with things that seem completely minor, never mind what that girl had described.

Young folk also take a lot less shit than us old folk used to. When I started working full time, if your boss treated you like a c**t you were expected to take it and get on with the job. That doesn’t happen to anything like the same extent now, as far as I have seen.

The headline might look negative but it’s not entirely without its positives, as far as I’m concerned.

  4. This weeks effort. A little slower, not deliberately, but had the sun out the entire time and the first 7/8k had it directly in front of me, along with another 3/4K stretch near the end. Definitely felt it, even if it was still cold. Still feel I could do a little bit more with some comfort. Will see how next week goes.
