  1. All the brave talk about the spirit of Glasgow, and then the wee mutants in the background pop up as a reality check.
  2. In as much as it's maybe time to rethink that part of their policing strategy. Two fatal crashes while running a fleet of one in just over 20 years?
  3. Worth pointing out that this is the second time this has happened to the Glasgow polis - in 1990 one hit a block of granny flats in the southside.
  4. It was some ska band playing apparently. My facebook's been going mental - there appear to have been a few friends of friends there unfortunately.
  5. Looking at those photos, I'm afraid it really doesn't. If you don't know the layout of the place, it looks like it's come through the roof right on top of the bar area. The stage is along the wall facing the Clyde.
  6. Mate of mine went for a tattoo of a scorpion on his arm. Obviously neither he or the tattoo artist had a photo of a scorpion to hand to refer to, as he came back a couple of hours later with a very well-executed tattoo of a lobster.
  7. There is a vast gulf between the fantasy and the reality of lesbianism. Our porn lied to us.
  8. Just like anywhere in Belgium, you can't go wrong around the main square, although it's a good bit more expensive than off the beaten track, I guess you're paying for ambience. And don't call it Bruges while you're there! It's pretty heavy duty Flemish around that bit of Belgium, and that's what the French call it. The locals call it Brugge, and that's all you'll see on roadsigns etc.
  9. An old boss in work got called Mr Burns. He heard about the nickname, and was quite chuffed, because he imagined it was because he was no-nonsense and strict like the old guy in The Simpsons. Took the wind out of his sails when he found out it was because he looked a bit like Simon Weston.
  10. Voices by Arnaldur Indridasson - think Icelandic Ian Rankin!
  11. Read a good piece by some musicologist who said that metal is now showing signs of filling a similar niche as country music does in the states - only rarely in the forefront of popular culture, but a constant presence, continually evolving and absorbing outside influences. With nearly half a century of history, it looks like it's definitely here to stay.
  12. Knebworth '85 was similar. Started off promisingly with the likes of Mountain, Blackfoot and UFO. Then the rain started in earnest, and didn't stop. Cue Meat Loaf in the late afternoon graveyard slot, strangely enough in a stooky and doing his trademark bellowing like an out-of-key buffalo live extravaganza. Within a couple of minutes of his arrival, there was a barrage of piss filled bottles towards the stage that looked like a prelude to a WW1 offensive and which lasted the duration of his 'performance'. Things looked up for the Scorps though, who basically played Worldwide Live, and killed. Deep Purple headlined, and after all the anticipation subsequent to their reunion, were so-so at best.
  13. RIGHT! I'd seen that clip a good few times and I'd never clicked that's what he was actually on about. Guess it makes marginally more sense than the sci-fi alternative I thought he was postulating...
  14. Yaas! Dalton to Green! Hopefully first of many this season...
  15. It happened at rush hour about 300-400 yards from a motorway, so there were plenty of witnesses. For what it's worth, I wouldn't be suprised if the fourth plane WAS shot down as it approached DC, but where a lot of conspiracy theories fall down is the fact that there are so many eyewitness accounts which tally as to what really happened, which get conveniently ignored. For instance, just hours after the Boston bombing, someone was blogging that they had proof that the guy with his legs blown off was an amputee from Afghanistan who had been planted in the crowd. All well and good until one of the guy's friends commented that they'd seen him that morning and he definitely had had legs then... A lot of these things are rooted in people's unwillingness to believe that a superpower could possibly have been caught with its pants down so completely by a bunch of amateur hour terrorists who it must be said got very lucky that morning. Sadly, that seems to have been the case.
  16. A fair bit of the north tower did though which probably didn't help its structural integrity... Regarding the Pentagon, a guy I know was working in DC at the time - one of his workmates was travelling in from Virginia on the I395 and actually saw the plane hitting it.
  17. Dogma 8/10 Hadn't seen it for a long while, but the missus dug it out to watch last night. Eschatological road movie by Kevin Smith - the last descendant of Jesus travels across the US in the company of a couple of prophets (Jay & Silent Bob) and the thirteenth apostle (Chris Rock) who was written out of the bible on account of being black, in an attempt to prevent a couple of renegade angels (Ben Affleck and Matt Damon) causing the end of existence.Typical Kevin Smith - 50 percent intelligent screenplay, and 50 percent fart gags. Had forgotten how good it was.
  18. Paul McCartney really is dead. This can be proved beyond reasonable doubt by the shiteness of his post-Beatles output.
  19. AJ Green picked up a knee injury too - doesn't appear to be all that bad though... http://www.cincyjungle.com/2013/7/28/4565662/a-j-greens-return-from-knee-injury-yet-to-be-determined
  20. Friendly v Thistle at Lochburn weather permitting on Thursday apparently. Not sure of KO time, but it's an evening job.

  21. I was recommended these, and to be honest wasn't expecting much. Good wee nip to them though - certainly alright for a shop-bought effort.
