Clyde vs East Fife
David W replied to BullyWeeStonehouse's topic in Scottish League 2 General Chatter
Saturday was another example of our team failing to function at all without Cuddihy in midfield alongside Grant. That's where you start with the team, with Kinnear Hamilton and Allan all starting as expected, and Scullion in somewhere. The rest can be a mishmash hopefully involving a bit of height. -
Clyde vs East Fife

Here's something cheerful; in the months where football takes place continuously (August to April), there are four dates where we haven't drawn a game. 24 December 1 March 2 March 27 April -
So by and large the actual football teams. One notable team missing there but Cowden were trying to justify Colt teams for years so no real surprise.

I believe Stenny's current run of 7 consecutive draws ties a record? A very strange season for the Warriors.

At least we will have a white kit in the Lowland League. If anyone votes in that Cumbernauld Colts kit as our away strip then it's a worse decision that re-electing Thomson.

Two lovely goals but we are a team in a relegation scrap and you wouldn't trust many of those starters in those sort of matches. Hamilton, Cuddihy, Allan. Maybe Howie at a push. Such a soft team. Reminds me of the Forfar game where we led and had 3 points there for the taking but we just can't dig in for a clean sheet. We concede too many goals at set pieces but our record at scoring from them since McNiff left must be the worst in the country. With no exaggeration at all, it must be well into single figures. It's been blatantly obvious since January that Grant/Ballantyne as a pairing is too lightweight. It benefitted us hugely to have Leitch get injured and force us to move Cuddihy into the middle. Leslie takes a bit of credit as well. I just want this season over. Not finding much fun at the football right now.

It's Scottish League 2, you need to be able to defend set pieces as a priority. Our two centre halves' obvious weakness is in the air and we don't make up for it elsewhere on the pitch with this lineup. Too many lazy attacking players on the pitch at once. McGinn has shown exactly why he hasn't been playing and I expect him to be hooked at the break.

Surely you're better trying to take your current momentum into the playoffs? You will probably go strong next week as well, then rest everyone against Peterhead.

Irwin was outstanding and could easily be put at right back even he though he predominately played on the left. I was at an event a while back where SAF was speaking and he said that he was the one certainty to get in his best Man United team.

Dumbarton v Clyde 13/4/24

I thought Allan was a good yard or two offside incidentally. -

Dumbarton barely did that in the second half either. Our big effort on goal hit the post, their one went in. Disappointing not to capitalise on last week but a farcical game all in. Doesn't feel like I've watched a game to be honest. -

Dumbarton have twice let us score in both halves of a league game, which has only happened three times in total (the other being the 6-1 Stenny massacre). Dumbarton are also the only side to give us a penalty in the league (also twice). -
This is going pretty much how every Fiorentina game seems to go. Lovely football but simply can't score.

I said before the game that I thought we needed Cuddihy and Grant as a base in midfield and I thought they showed why yesterday. For a smaller guy, Cuddihy wins more than his fair share of headers and Grant was first to absolutely everything for most of the game, retaining possession in the process. I thought Scullion was excellent and for all Kinnear's faults, we have a goalkeeper now who can justifiably pick out saves that have led to points. I thought the referee was fine. Stranraer were wasting time, but so were we a bit in the first half. He added 6 minutes stoppage time. I didn't think Allan was kicked in the head (it was a silly challenge regardless) and I thought Grant's booking was fair. Not convinced on the second Stranraer yellow. You would back us to do better over a four game run than Stranraer but next week we run into a Dumbarton team hitting some form. Could Forfar maybe drop back into it? Allan has been worth every penny. He genuinely could have scored a brace in every game he has played.

Peterhead's effort to ruin my life can only be admired.

I know there's probably financial reasons behind it but Man City binning Palmer for that dud Doku looks an abysmal decision.

I think this thread sums up why we have continued to struggle in games. An unbalanced squad, not an obvious best eleven and serious issues with height and aggression. I actually thought the first half last week showed exactly why McGinn hasn't been starting. Plenty of attacking thrust but poor final delivery and defensive positioning. I'd not be adverse to him maybe playing on the left of midfield as his pace is a real threat. Cuddihy and Grant in midfield as a base to build on. If we can fit in Ballantyne as well then so be it, but he doesn't win enough second balls for a game like this. I'd probably play Howie at right back and keep Sula in for height.

Meh, I thought he was unlucky given the referee didn't book a Peterhead player for literally the same challenge (on Kabia) a minute before. Not a great afternoon for Clyde, with the GD taking a hit. Only really Ray Grant comes out of that with any credit.
