  1. I may have imagined it, but wasn't there one of the white ones appearing at some point on the parliament ship?
  2. Was pretty underwhelmed by the return tbh. The story was alright, but felt a bit like a mid-season filler than a triumphant return. However, it did have the new companion, who is hotter than a hot summer in the middle east. Ooft. I'll quite happily have the lovely Gillan leave if she's taking her place, although both would be quite nice too.
  3. Another day, another keerrazy consumer complaint polluting Facebook... Jesus... When did these things start spreading? Seems like everyone is now thinking that Facebook is the best place to air grievances and complaints about something. I could maybe see the point if some of them were genuine complaints (although Facebook still isn't the place to put them) but most of them just show a fundamental misunderstanding of everything. A good smattering of people telling her what a bint she's being, but there are a good few mind-cripples in there too She's "stumbled over a loophole", because if a child can't be named in a court case or buy alcohol, then they shouldn't pay full price. Someone get this woman a job.
  4. To be fair, I'm convinced if he's saying it's a "FACT FUCKING FACT".
  5. Not a heavy gig goer, but have a few coming up. Combichrist - 26th June - Supported Rammstein a couple of tours ago, and they were surprisingly good. Should be a lot better in a smaller venue like the arches (Also have two tickets going spare for the gig as people pulled out. If anyone wants them, they're welcome to them) Muse - 24th October - SECC Ben Folds Five - 30th November - O2 Academy - Can't wait for this one. Ben Folds was one gig I had never managed to catch, and now BFF are back together, it's going to be even better
  6. Thought I'd ask for some advice in this, so here's a bump... In the past, I wasn't exactly overweight. Probably pretty average. However, when I started uni, and my diet started getting worse, I put on more weight. I was still walking a lot more, as I lived at home. But now that I've moved in with my fiancee, and live 5 minutes walk from the office, it's all combined to mean I'm at my heaviest. I'll start off by saying that I'm still fairly active. I recently joined PureGym on Bath Street, and have started going twice a week, for the past 3 weeks. I also usually play 2 games of 5s/7s a week. I'm not massively unfit, as I can still get up and back fairly often, and am still quick, but I know I could be fitter. However, now for the bad news. Recently I've started having a lot of trouble with my back (cleared up a bit now) and more annoyingly, both my ankles. It means that any sort of strain on the ankle joints like football and especially the treadmill means I have no chance of any exercise on them the next day. They usually clear up enough so that I can play football once every two days, but obviously the amount of running I can do goes down whenever my ankles are fucked. So, given that my amount of football has to be cut down, and I've joined a gym, what are the best things to do to get rid of the fat and improve on general fitness/cardio, but without going the whole way and destroying what's left of my melting chocolate ankles? From reading a few pages on the thread, I'd imagine the Cross-Trainer or Bike would be the best, and I've heard that Interval Training can very quickly burn through fat, but if there's anything else then happy to try that. Usually spend about an hour at the gym each time, mixing it between the treadmill, rowing and recently started on the bike.
  7. Really? That's really how "the people" greeted news that their club might actually be saved? Deary me.
  8. Someone I have on mine posted the word "samesies" over the weekend. Christ.
  9. Yup. I'll settle for a Gillan-Coleman battle on screen.
  10. I've been watching, and have managed to stay at the same pace as the Channel 4 one. I've downloaded a few episodes, but never really got round to watching them - will probably keep watching each week on 4 rather than skip ahead. It is a slow burner, but that doesn't make it bad - Jericho was really slow at times, but sucked you in (well, not enough to keep it from getting cancelled, but I enjoyed it). Damian Lewis and Claire Danes have been fantastic so far And the 24 link is one that's fairly clear - you can see the similarities. It's a good thing too - when 24 was good, it was oh so very good. Hopefully they can channel some of that, instead of the parts where nothing happened for 12 weeks.
  11. Just back from the gig... I think this expresses my feelings! On the barrier for the second time, and this time it got serious. The hairs on my arms have been singed off in places after the first song, and I'm battered and bruised to f**k, but God was that amazing. Best gig of my life without question. Do agree on the closer though - that's two tours they haven't really got it right with them - Engel the last one didn't work, and although I preferred this tour as an end, they need a song on their next album (if there is one) that properly ends things. Apart from that, the setlist could not have been improved on in any way. They absolutely nailed it.
  12. To be honest, it's really not much of a hindrance being in seating. We went seating for Munich, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Standing isn't better, but it is different. Depends what you want from a gig really - you'll be able to see absolutely everything that happens from seating, where in standing you won't. But all depends on what you're into really I guess. Just to be there, like you say, is a bonus.
  13. And me. Heading down on Thursday morning, and staying in apartments 2 minutes walk from the MEN (or MCR as it is now known apparently). It's going to be epic - here's hoping I'm lucky enough to get on the barrier just like last time I saw them in Manc.
  14. First... What a fantastic way to end that little exchange. Kudos. Second, these Strathclyde/Glasgow "things" have started to pop up on mine too thanks to a little tool I've moaned about a few times on this topic. I don't want to offend anyone who reads this and does go to Glasgow Uni, as not all are like that, but he is the very specimen of a Glasgow University Student in first year. I'm sure those memes will be full of "OMG STRAFFCLYDE IS WEL BETTAR!" and "Oh dear boy, it's obviously Glasgow harrumph", so the sooner they realise that they're not funny, and that neither Uni is anywhere close to perfect, then the sooner they can get on with their lives and maybe stop being such bellends. Another thing that annoys me, and I'm sure everyone's seen it in some form, are the fishers. the ones that post an extremely vague hook of a post just so that people will reply. It's made worse when they never post again, never revealing what it was all about in the first place.
  15. Good one from someone I've got on mine and someone she knew. Can't remember the exact wording, but when she realises he's going to Ayia Napa this summer, she asks the perfectly normal question, "Where are you staying?". He answers that he doesn't know, and that he'll just turn up and see what happens. Instead of replying "That's a bit of a stupid thing to do", she gives an erudite "LOLZ, LOVE IT!". I despair for both.
  16. The ones I'm looking forward to have mostly already been said. Prometheus The Dark Knight Rises Taken 2 They are the three I really REALLY want to see. I don't go to the cinema often because there's never anything worth forking out for IMO, happy waiting for a DVD. But those I will be there, most definitely. Taken 2 could turn out to be shit though - the first was surprisingly good, and it was a side of Neason I've never really seen. Very convincing. I may be in a massive minority, but I'm really looking forward to Silent Hill 2 (or Silent Hill: Revelation 3D to give it's cringeworthy release title). I'll be in an even smaller minority when I say that I thought the first one was fantastic. It could have been better, yes, and a bit more canon with the games, but I think they nailed the atmosphere. Apparently the film will follow the events of the third game, and will have the return of Sean Bean (from the first film) playing the main character's father as well as reprising his role from the 1st. Not sure how that'll work, but hopefully it keeps the atmosphere right. A pretty decent casrt as well apart from Bean - Carrie Ann Moss of Trinity fame (although not sure what she's been in since) and Malcolm McDowell
  17. I like the part where they make a distinction around the speed of them talking, like if they talked slower, they would understand the languaged (sic...apparently)
  18. I don't have too many absolute tools on my Facebook, but there's plenty that I probably should just remove, because they annoy me. But it's not quite enough to actually go to the bother of doing it. The statuses that get to me, mostly because I ache for the stupidity they're showing, are ones like so... People at Uni complaining about how hard and unfair it all is, and going as far as saying "I'm just going to leave and get a full time job, it'll be so much easier" - Seriously. People like this who don't appreciate free University places like they should and moan about how awful it all is should be kicked out and replaced with those who want to be there. Can't wait for the shock they'll get when (or more likely if in their case) they get a proper graduate/full-time job and start to miss what they had at Uni. "I have the best boyfriend/girlfriend/fiancee/bit of stuff evaaa!!11! xxxxxxxxx" or similar. No-one gives a shiny shit really. You're happy, great, but broadcasting it? Why? There's one particular guy who's such an aching tool that it's going to be interesting to see whether he continues to climb Mount Tool as he "grows up" or mellows out. He's only just started Uni (nephew of a friend at work, and sometime colleague of mine before I left) and I was told he had done work experience fairly successfully where I was getting my graduate job. I said I'd put in a good word for him for internships etc, as he seemed a decent guy. Around the time of the banking crisis, he started talking about how we should have a "revolution" and wanted to "do something" in Glasgow. Seems to fancy himself as some kind of learned Scottish Guevara. Some of the comments would probably be visited by the Facebook Police if they were made nowadays. All fairly harmless though, and just seemed to be kids doing their adorable "let's make a difference bit". But he's continued on his crusade ever since, saying how awful the world and the corporations are. The irony being that if he has any aspirations of getting a job where I am - a company which employs a massive percentage of the graduates from my degree, with rival companies taking a good load of the rest, then all this stuff he's posting will come back to haunt him. And I hope it does, maybe it'll beat some humility into him.
  19. Cool, you'll need to let me know how it goes, think your gig is a couple of days before mine. They usually evolve their show a little as the tour goes on, so hopefully there'll be some differences to when I saw them in Munich.
  20. Manchester? I'll be there. It's going to be fucking epic. Already have the plans of how to get in quickest and get the best spot, and it won't be the front...
  21. Or as an addition to my post above, if there was any interest in playing later in the week (*nudge* Thursday) then I'd be very interested. Sunday/MondayTuesday games are a killer, so would like to play later in the week instead
  22. I usually play 7s on a Monday night up at Toryglen, but play at Townhead on Sundays/Tuesdays fairly regularly. If I'm not playing elsewhere on a Monday night I'll keep this in mind - might be able to make up the numbers if needed.
  23. I can see where you're coming from, but when it comes to basic service, I slightly disagree. I don't think that it can be excused just because it's at the lower end of the culinary spectrum. I've been to expensive restaurants where the service is just as piss poor, and some cheaper ones where it's been fantastic. Agreed though, in the setting they're in, it's probably very difficult to put across any kind of decent customer service when you're asking the same thing over and over again. There will be some staff in there that will go that extra bit though, but it shouldn't be a minority. That said though, like I said, I see what you're getting at. I don't usually go into McDonalds full stop, but if I did I wouldn't be expecting silver service.
  24. I don't think I can pinpoint just one... Best Viva Brazil - only recently opened in Glasgow, but I love the place. The meat is fantastic, and at all you can eat it's fairly reasonable considering the quality. You can go a few doors down and get a small piece of steak for the same price as you get all the meats in VB. Even better if you go for lunch Gourmet Burger Kitchen - a staple when I visit London for work, as there's one near St Pauls, just a 2 minute walk from my hotel. The burgers are always perfectly cooked as you want them, and when you go mental with the sides you can make something very tasty. A bit over-priced though possibly. Wagamama - my fiancee got me into this, and got to say I love it now. The food is always fresh which makes a massive difference. Unfortunately, it is fast food in the way that you feel hungry again very fast a few hours later, and they do cram you together so it seems like you're eating with other people. Apart from that though, it's one of the better chains. On the Fence Wetherspoons - On the fence because it often depends which one, or even which mood it's in at the time. I've had breakfasts that have varied from being piss poor to excellent (the one in Manchester near the Arndale served up an amazing breakfast, but was perhaps made better by being battered after a Rammstein gig) but you can have it varying massively in the one place - the Counting House is usually very bad, but can come up with great food. You can't argue with the prices usually, even though they've hiked up. It was a great student lunch/dinner place if you wanted somewhere cheap. And the drink is close to th e cheapest you get, which always helps. Grill on the Corner - Blackhouse would be the chain (there's a few up and down the country, mostly in London I think) and they do fantastic food fairly regularly, but it's let down by price. A full 3 courses there, considering it's a steak place, gets pretty expensive, and I'm not sure it's entirely worth it. However, January's 50% off offer saves it. Worst McDonalds - No. Just no. I went down for training in London with people from work, and the night we arrived, where did they want to go to get some food? McDonalds. No wanting to try and find a nice restaurant to sit down and have a meal in a new city. McDonalds. Pish food. Pish service. But then that's exactly what is to be expected. Had one in Munich a couple of months ago given that it was the only place open after midnight - marginally better, but still as bad. And still had a few jakeys. Nandos - I don't see what the fuss is about. It's a middle class KFC, and I think people who would usually criticise KFC/BK/McDs go there to feel somehow superior. I've been once, and I can't say I didn't enjoy the food, but for what I got, I'd have looked to pay about half what I did. Doubt I'll be going back. If I want fast food chicken, I'll go to KFC and chance my arm. Pizza Hut - Have had takeaway from them recently, which was the first time I'd eaten there in years. IT was hands down the worst pizza I'd ever ordered. The restuarant side of things have tried to move to a more Nando's level of middle-class-ery, but it's not sitting well. The food doesn't match up.
  25. I watched the third, and thought it was pretty good, but much preferred the 2nd to it. It was a good story, and nice and simple this time, but I think the ending, although good, was a strange one. I really hope that Brooker gets involved more in things like this. I do love his Screenwipe series, but I think he's lost that edge that made them so great in the beginning. After all, he mercilessly attacked those TV celebrities in the first few series, and now he pretty much is one. Would be a bit hypocritical really. Newswipe was pretty good and let him do some of the more serious stories, which he does very well, but he is clearly a talented writer, and I look forward to Black Mirror Series 2, or something different.
