  1. Watched the first half hour or so of the new Batman movie, before the 3rd part didn't work. But just going to watch from part 4 and hope that not too much happens in the ten minutes or so that I've missed.

You probably missed a whole lot.......

Watched Dark Knight last night, and it was terrific - 9/10.

Heath Ledger was amazingly good as the Joker, and will win the Oscar for best supporting actor (i don't think he was in it enough for best actor). All of the acting was great in it, and the action was non-stop. My only "beef" with the film is that it tried to do too much for me, and could have kept part of the movie (atleast) until the next film.

  2. Going senile Ruggy?

I thought he had posted it somewhere before.......

Evan Almighty. Pure pish. Can't believe Morgan Freeman lowered himself to this.

1/10, and that's only for John Goodman's comic facial expressions.

I have a theory about Morgan Freeman - that he took Bruce/Evan almighty so that he could play "god" and he took Deep Impact because he could play the president. Otherwise why would he take on roles in such shit films.

  3. Wasn't that the whole point of the film though?

The way I read it before watching was that it was a film about Glyenhaal and Downey Jr's obsession with the Zodiac killer, not a "scary filum about a serial killer".

Yes it was. The fact that they don't even know who the killer is (IIRC) indicates that they can't even do it as a scary film about a serial killer. I thought it was an excellent film.

    This past weekend i watched:-

National Treasures 2:- Same as the first. Entertaining to watch, but nothing more. 6/10.

Fools Gold:- Any Matthew Mcconaughey film is instantly rented by my wife. Atleast it had the Gorgeous Kate Hudson in it. Was also actually pretty funny for a "chick flick". 5/10.

  4. This weekend i saw:-

American Gangster. Not as good as i thought it was going to be, but excellent performances from both Crowe and Denzel anyway. 8/10.

Batman Begins - i am not a fan of any of the previous films at all, but i thoroughly enjoyed this one. Christian Bale was excellent - and im looking forward to the next one now. 9/10.

Oceans 13- same as all the previous Oceans films, enjoyable but nothing special. 5.5/10.

  5. Ive watched a few this last few weeks.

    Blazing Saddles - 10/10 - nuff said.

Young Frankenstein - not one of Mel Brooks best, but still funny. Now i understand why my wife wanted to call my cat Abbie Normal. 7/10

Talladega nights - the shite that is Ricky Bobby. There was nothing on TV this morning, so i watched this. Wish i had watched nothing - what a load of crap. 1/10 as im feeling generous.

Harts War:- Interesting storyline if i hadn't read the blurb before hand that told the story really. Bruce Willis in another heroic i will die instead scene. 6/10.

Also recently watched apocolyptico - for all the poor reviews, i thought it was pretty interesting view of life in that time. The jokes played on the fat one that was firing blanks was funnier than anything in Ricky Bobby. 8/10.

  6. I went to see Gone Baby Gone at the weekend and left a tad disappointed, as I'd been expecting an engaging two hours. Yes it's a moody and atmospheric crime thriller and impressive from a directing point of view (first time effort from Ben Affleck) but the plot just seemed to grow more and more implausible as time wore on.

    7/10

In what way do you think it was more and more implausible as it went on? (obviously spoiler codes will be needed)

  7. We ordered Saw IV earlier. Just finished watching it. We are both a bit confused, we have both seen the previous three Saw movies, but we wern't too sure if the end of Saw IV coincided with Saw three? Anyone have any idea?

HOpefully won't get stopped this time (damn timer).

    Anyway, from what i understood:-

Saw 3 and Saw 4 is taking place in the same time-line. The person trying to save everyone in Saw 3 is supposed to save them in Saw 4. (atleast the cop from Saw 2 and a new person who was "keeping them captive" as in Saw). He never made it, and was shot - caused the other 2 to die - leaving the "real saw" i.e. the Bad cop alive. He is now the only person alive from all 4 films - as he was given the tape recorder from the autopsy on Jigsaw. Saw 5 will probably tie up the lose ends of the cop getting involved in the killing, as well as his test.

  8. But the Aliens on the original planet came on the spaceship that crashed landed there. So there could easily be more out there. And if they were to get back Ridley Scott or James Cameron, then you can bet it wouldn't be the shitfest that the AvP movies are.

But Alien 3 is a good end point for the series, there is no need to keep going and flogging a dead duck now. Everything else that will be done is not going to add to the story. I would be all for a remake of the first one, but not for any more films. I personally don't care how they got there, or if there are any more "out there" to be found - that is what the AVP is base on.

  9. Well, there could be how the Aliens ended up on the planet, or even the big ship that they were on. Just because the Aliens from the original 3 movies are gone doesn't mean that the story has to end there.

Thats just like having Alien vs Predator, or Alien vs another Alien. Also if all the Aliens are gone, then they can't move on from Alien 3 can they.......

  10. Aye I realise that they are doing the 3 books but the cliffhanger in the book is waaaaaaaaaay cooler and on the plus side the kids watching would start crying.

Roger gets killed by Asrael and this opens a rift/portal into another world which he steps through and then Lyra follows.

a much better ending than the movie.

Yeah, but there may well be time constraints as to why the first film is shorter than the first book, in terms of storyline. (i haven't seen it yet, so can't say if it is a bad time to stop).

  11. Woah woah woah, whats this talk of alien movies after Alien 3. They can't exist. Can they??? AvP???? Alien Ressurection??? you guys are smoking something pretty strong.

Golden Compass - 5/10 they missed alot of stuff from the book and chose to play up the "dust" angle at the start and pussied out of the bad church angle as well. Plus whats with the ending, thats only about half way through the 1st freaking book.

There is another 2 films on the way, they will probably go into it. It would have stopped at an appropriate ending for the first film.

  12. I agree that Ripley should stay dead, but there was still plenty of story left to be told.

What story was there left to be told? In alien, they stumbled upon the alien race for the first time, Ripley "won the day" after which they sent the "atmosphere team" or whatever they were told, then Ripley et al went there to save the day again, wiped out the Queen and in effect all the aliens. Alien 3 has the "crash" into the prison planet, and Alien ravages the convicts, that Alien is killed, and Ripley commits suicide with the Queen - no more Aliens. The only "stories" are the pre-human contact (no better than Predator vs Alien), the missing link between Alien and Aliens - which was filled in in Aliens special edition (and hence no need to make a new film) and then anything after Alien 3 - i.e. Alien Ressurection/Alien vs Predator. There is no story left untold.

  13. I've not been to the doctors yet, but the symptoms suggest there is a decent chance I might have

It's true what they say about Newcastle :(

Not to worry you, but if you caught something else from her, i would also be worried about HIV.........

    edited to add my PTTGOYN:-

I have to referee 3 intramural football games tonight, and at the minute it is storming :(

  14. Sorry. Just picked this up.

I don't understand what you don't agree with.

I don't agree it was a 10/10 and the best film of the year. I thought it was very poor considering it was the Coen brothers.

No, we're most definetely not counting the two AvP movies as part of the series.

And Resurrection was appaling. They really need to do a Batman Begins on this franchise and reboot it. Maybe pick up after Alien3 and ignore anything that's came since then.

No no no no, just no. They should come out, remove all traces of Alien res/AVP and state that the end of Alien3 was the end of the series. Ripley died, the Aliens are now extinct, end of.

  15. However, my favourite film of the last year or so has to be No Country for Old Men. I've read some negative things about it. However, I find it hard to fault. So many interesting characters and thems. Incredible dialogue. The one thing that keeps going on in my head is Tommy Lee Jones talking about being faced with pure evil that he can't reason with and not being able to understand it nevermind comprehend it. It's something that we hear only very occasionally in the news. Pure evil. I've spoken to/heard about 1or2 individuals who have encountered this in their work and it contradicts everything they believe in up to that point. Totally life-changing. Anyway- it's just a concept that fascinates me. Chigurh carries this role of evil off brilliantly.

    (10/10)

Unfortunately i just can't agree with that.

Anyhow, wanted to ask something, am i way way off the mark thinking that there is a major link between Tommy Lee Jones, and Javier Bardem? not in that he can't understand the evil, but more that he is the same person? It was just the part where he goes into the hotel room at the end, and he also describes perfectly the pressure cannister that Bardem uses to open doors, yet mentions he has no idea about how he was doing it.

edited to put it in spoilers.
