  1. Galabank, for Annan Athletic V Raith Rovers today. Ticket £14. No programmes but a free team sheet. My second last ground before I complete the Scottish 42. This has been a ground that has proved rather harder to get too than expected. Twice I've been let down by train strikes via the quick Edinburgh to Carlisle route. But I was stubbornly determined to tick of Galabank today. After getting in contact with some Rovers supporters clubs without success. I decided on the long way round by train and bus Via Glasgow from Edinburgh. A rail replacement bus between Glasgow and Kilmarnock wasn't going to stop me today. And a cracking game was to await me. Annan out but Rovers needing to win and win well to make sure of progress meant they came out the blocks fast and played like men possessed in the match. The scoring was opened by Raith on 11 minutes when Keith Watson fired in a shot to the top corner. Raith then dominated and really should have been out of sight. Except Annan didn't read the script. Gibson did well in the left back position to get the ball forward on 27 minutes. Luissint feed Galloway who scored in a swift counter attack to shock Raith. Rovers though continued to take the game to Annan. But Atletic had found some fight and surprisingly scored a second on 37 .inutes when Luissant turned and shot from the edge of the box to make it 2-1 at half time. Not the scoreline Raith needed. The second half started as the first had with Raith looking for the win. But it was Annan who's turn it was to be caught out by a counter when Smith was played through to slot home to make it 2-2 on 51 minutes. Raith were in control for most of the second half and took the lead when a penalty was given for a barge of the ball at a free kick. Vaughan slotted the penalty home with 11 minutes to go and send the Rovers fans home happy. A cracking match. Now to get home Annan 2 Raith 3. Attendance 419 apparently. Looked more. And only Inverness Caledonian Thistle to go for me now.
  2. I think costs maybe an issue with them. One guy puts it together, and they sell about 50 according to the guy I spoke to. I emailed them asking for a printed copy. But they have yet to get back to me. Maybe a solution could be to put them on sale along with advance tickets and pick up at the game. Advertise it online before hand. I remember Clyde did this when Crowds were first let back in during COVID. Intended the match against Kilmarnock at Broadwood.
  3. Another one for Edinburgh City V Ross County. My first visit to the New Meadowbank. And I have to admit Though not great. I actually thought the new stand wasn't as bad for viewing the match as I expected it to be. Ross County well deserved winners. Edinburgh Coty though they have had a poor start to the season played well enough last night to suggest they'll be fine this year. I've messaged the club asking if I could purchase a printed copy of the programme. I'm happy to pay for these as though there's digital copy. They put a lot effort in putting one together I wouldd rather pay than receive it for free.
  4. Picture taken from the Scottish football programmes & Memorabilia fairs page on Facebook. Most clubs still producing. Dundee United not selling at ground. But available to buy from Curtis sport programmes. Annan Athletic from first league match, Queen's Park online from first league game. Clubs that are None. Ross County, Airdrieonians, Inverness, Morton, Hamilton, Kelty, Forfar, Stranraer. Most if not all will provide a Teamsheet if you ask. Not sure what Raith Rovers are doing as yet.
  5. Lesser Hampden for Queen's Park V Elgin City. 5-0 Spiders. Attendance 676. Ticket £12 No programmes but managed to nab a team sheet. Second time watching Elgin in three days and you have to feel for them as they were drawn in a very difficult group. This match was very one sided, yes. But also Elgin didn't help themselves as most of the goals in both games were conceded in a similar fashion. And they gave the ball away cheaply constantly. The first goal came on 7 minutes after good work on the wing found Ruari Paton unmarked in the box where he tapped in an easy goal. Queen's had the ball in the net again two minutes later but this was disallowed for a push I think?! Queen's Park continued to dominate with with Elgin surviving by the skin of their teeth on more than one occasion. The second goal came on 33 minutes when Paton rose at the back post from a corner to head home, a carbon copy of QOS's second on Saturday. 2-0 at half time and Elgin were probably relieved it was only two! The third came on 54 minutes when Queen's Park playing some nice football found Paton in the box where he showed quick and nimble feet to find space and claim his hatrick. On the hour mark Jamieson of Elgin was injured as he fell awkwardly after a challenge from Tizzard. The lad suffered a shoulder injury and was taken off immediately. Hopefully it's not two serious. The fourth came on 68 minutes when Paton found himself unmarked in the six yard box to head home another corner. The fifth and last goal came as before with Elgin unable to defend a corner as Centre half Fox again unmarked at the back post headed home. A well deserved win for Queen's Park. Elgin will be glad to get the league cup out of the way and play some League two sides. But they do need to work on defensive organisation. Queen's Park look decent and will be there or there abouts again. As for Lesser Hampden. The new stand looks good if not too small for Championship Football. No wonder they will be back at Hampden Park next season.
  6. Nothing official yet. But Trevor Francis, Ex Nottingham Forest, Birmingham City, Rangers and England player has died at 69.
  7. I've Meadowbank on Wednesday (I class it as a revisit rather than a first time visit, despite it being completely different). Seen both Meadowbank Thistle and Edinburgh City play home games there.
  8. Yeah, been in touch with a couple of Raith supporters clubs, one has a full bus and a few fans on reserve if they can get an extra bus. Looks like if they get the numbers then it's a possibility. I started back in 1988. So a few of the older grounds are crackers. Old Rugby Park, Cappielow, Brockville, Somerset Park. Grounds with history and character are my favourites. Cappielow stands out for me. A real beauty. Not a fan of the newer builds like Almondvale, New Broomfield, Mcdairmid Park, new Bayview and Dumbartons. Very dull and no Character.
  9. Planning Galabank for next Saturday. Booked trains and match ticket. Only for trains to be cancelled because of strike action. Now have to work out how I'm getting to Annan from Edinburgh . Only need Annan, Queen's Park (Lesser Hampden, which will be on Tuesday) and Inverness (September) to complete the 42. Galabank seems to be the one that is frustratingly alluding me . As I've had two other attempts cancelled for the same reason.
  10. Finally ticked of Scotlands most northerly SPFL Ground and what a glorious day it was for football. A very scenic trip up from Edinburgh and back via Aberdeen and a trip to see the Cathedral as well. Elgin City V Queen of the South. 0-2. Attendance 517 Ticket £12 Programme and free teamsheet £2 A very comfortable win for QOS 10 man against a poor Elgin City. The visitors took control early on when Kieran McKechnoe cut inside on the left from a free kick to fire a fierce shot into the top corner from the edge of the box. QOS seemed happy to control the game as the hard working but limited Elgin team tried to get back into the game it didn't work Murray Johnson in goal at all in the first half. The second half wasn't very exciting as the visitors kept in control, but their hopes were raised when Kyle McClelland received two quick bookings then a red with 19 minutes to go. Elgin were finally in with a chance, and they did create a great chance soon after when they won the ball in midfield and played it out to the left. A quick cross caught the QOS defence flat but the forward blazed his shot wide, when it was easier to score! QOS heeded the warning and after a few subs they scored the clincher on 89 minutes when Paul McKay rose high at the back post to head home from a corner. A well deserved victory to send home the (well over 100) fans from Dumfries happy. I do like Borough Briggs. A cracking ground.
  11. 3rd September 1988. On a trip to visit family (we lived in England at the time). I begged my dad to take me to my first Celtic game. Which happened to be at Douglas Park for a reserve game between Hamilton Academical and Celtic. Back in the day when the reserves would play the same opponent at the same time but switched around. Celtic won the match 4-2. The only things I really remember is Danny McGrain was playing for Hamilton and some old boy was giving him abuse all game (I think it was the old Accies fan Fergie?! Maybe) And a Celtic player scored a hatrick (possibly Gerry Creaney or Gerry Britton?!) The first team game at Celtic Park was 2-1 to Celtic.
  12. Season 2023/24 is now underway for myself. And I started with giant killers Spartans at home to Falkirk. Could they add another fallen team to their scalp? Or would Falkirk heed the warning? Well the Bairns started of much the better team as they kept possession well and scored an early goal when Thomas Lang fired in a bullet header from a 6th minute corner. Falkirk looked much the better team for most of the first half, but Spartans were working hard to get themselves into the game. But alas the visitors took a deserved lead into half time. Spartans made a change in midfield at half time and it seemed to work as as it got them further up the pitch and they started to cause Falkirk some problems. They duly got their reward as a mix up in the box seen Blair Henderson get his goal and a deserved equaliser. Spartans seemed favourites now as Falkirk appeared to lose their way a bit. But their hard work paid of with an 89th minute winner when Penalties seemed to be coming. The result was a bit harsh on Spartans. But they competed well. I thought the referee was a bit fussy, blew for a lot of fouls, and didn't play advantage at all to the frustration of both teams. Not sure of crowd. Over 1000 I'd guess. Ticket £14, programme £3
  13. Only scored 9 in the second half. Thomas Tuchel OUT!
  14. I don't have any. But try Almondvale programmes on Easter Road, D & D Programmes Kilmarnock and GP Programmes on Glasgow Road, Bathgate. They all have websites and good collections.
  15. You need too be quick. Club doesn't advertise a tickets onsale system so you don't know when tickets go on sale. But usually drop them during a week day afternoon and they generally go very quickly these days. I don't have a season ticket. But generally check twice daily for any game I can hopefully attend. Celtic don't have a ticket exchange system either sadly. But supporters buses usually have tickets available at the bus park.
  16. I think it's probably a bit early. The SFA website has the dates and format for 2022/23. But its not updated for the new season yet. The preliminary round last season was 27th August 2022. So a wee bit of time to go yet I imagine.
  17. Priority for me this season is finish off the 42, only four to go. Plan is Elgin City V QOS for 22 August, Annan Athletic V Raith Rovers 29th August. Inverness probably the 2nd (Dunfermline Athletic) or 23rd September (Dundee United) and Queen's Park for lesser Hampden on 12th August V Arbroath. After that I was thinking of going to every round of the Scottish Cup in a season up to at least the Quarter final stage. Semi Final and Final might be more difficult depending on who gets that far. Further afield. I need four to complete EPL. Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford and Luton. The last will be next to impossible unless they get a kind cup draw at home. European trip is Portugal in late January. Then just a few revisits of grounds I've not been to in a while, Dens, Somerset Park, Tannadice and Station Park.
  18. I'll contribute if they have a long 'ish' line of service or have contributed in a positive and professional way. But our turnover has been very high recently. And collections for all have been expected. Most that are leaving have been there less than a year. They get the card signed and that's it from me. It can prove expensive. Two others though had been there for a long time. One left after 21 years for another job (which shocked everyone! and another retired after 33 years in the job. Large collection for both. First wanted a get together where there was a large turnout. The person who retired wanted to leave quietly with no fuss, and their wishes were respected. Both received some very nice gifts.
  19. List for Celtic. Will include non league teams in cups and teams recently lost league status. 2022/23 Aberdeen, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibernian, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Motherwell, Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone, St Mirren, Greenock Morton and Inverness Caledonian Thistle. 2021/22 Alloa Athletic, Dundee and Raith Rovers 2021/21 Falkirk and Hamilton Academical 2019/20 Clyde, Dunfermline Athletic and Partick Thistle 2018/19 Airdrieonians 2017/18 Brechin City (now Highland League) 2016/17 Albion Rovers (now Lowland League) 2015/16 Stranraer and East Kilbride (Lowland league) 2012/13 Arbroath 2011/12 Peterhead 2010/11 Berwick Rangers (Now Lowland League) 2008/09 Queen's Park 2007/08 Gretna (Now Lowland League) and Stirling Albion 2006/07 Dumbarton 2001/02 Ayr United 1996/97 Clydebank (now West of Scotland Premier League) 1995/96 Whitehill Welfare (East of Scotland league) 1994/95 Meadowbank Thistle (obviously now Livingston) 1991/92 Montrose 1990/91 Forfar Athletic and Queen of the South 1984/85 Inverness Thistle (joined with Caledonian to form ICT) 1983/84 East Fife 1980/81 East Stirlingshire (now Lowland League) 1966/67 Elgin City Yet to play. Bonnyrigg Rose, Kelty Hearts and Spartans in a first team competitive match. B team doesn't count. The East Fife, East Stirlingshire and Queen of the South ones really surprised me in how long it's been since we played them. Edit: Forgot FC Edinburgh/Edinburgh City. Not sure we have played against any team with that name. Will have to look at the history books for that.
  20. Sun splitting the trees in Edinburgh. Get them all on the buses and through here to play on!
  21. Plenty of personal achievements. But I'm a first aider at work, in a public building. And we get all sorts of incidents. Most are people (children mainly, but adults as well) getting cuts, tripping over or bumped heads. But occasionally we have something serious happen. And that's truly when our (albeit, 3 days training comes into play. We take it seriously at work and have weekly training sessions and talk amongst ourselves about experiences and incidents) I've had to look after a person suffering a stroke, several seizures and anaphylaic shock. Known that I've helped people feel more comfortable and trying to reassure them while more professional help has arrived feels like a great thing. Stressful, but proud. And rewarding when you hear back that they are OK and recovering. Thankfully I've not had to use the defibrillator yet.
  22. That's my stats. 54 games and 181 goals. Which is well over 3 a game. 5 countries. As well as football. I've seen International Basketball (Poland V Serbia) Handball in Leipzig V Kiel. Rugby Union. 2 women's games at little Murrayfield. Rugby League. London Bronchos V Feathersone Rovers Three Hurling matches and two Gaelic football matches. its been some season.
  23. Final game of 2022/23 for me tonight at Richmond Park, Dublin. (I'll add my Stats later ) St Patrick's Athletic V Derry City 4-1 Saints. Ticket 15 Euros, Programme 5 Euros Attendance 4000+ A match which had a lot of interest at the top of the table. Derry could have gone top if Shamrock Rovers had dropped points (they didn't) and Saints would go third if results went there way. So a lot to play for for two teams with a fair few players that once played in Scotland. Saints managed by Jon Daly, ex of Dundee United. As well as Chris Forrester ex Aberdeen and Eoin Doyle who played for Hibernian. The match played in great hot weather, started of slowly and it wasn't until the 36th minute when things came alive. Jay McGrath took the ball from midfield and rifled a shot past the Derry keeper, who should have done better as it was straight at him. The second half started better as St Patrick's Athletic started on the front foot and created a couple of chance. But the second goal didn't come until 62 minutes when Eoin Doyle was played through on goal and placed a superb shot into the bottom corner, Derry went up the field and scored two minutes later as a header went in by Cian Kavangh. Then a minute after that Chris Forrester made it 3-1 with a header from an infringing corner. Derry tried to fight their way back into the game. But only got caught out at the back as Saints were dominating the game and sub Mark Doyle made it 4-1 on 79 minutes. A well deserved win for St Patrick's Athletic. And a surprising heavy defeat for Derry who did have the best away record before tonight.
  24. Not football. But still Random nonetheless. Went to Croke Park today to take in a treble header of Hurling finals, in the. Ticket 25 Euros for three games. Programme 5 Euros. Lory Meagher (Tier 5). Monaghan 3-22 (31) V Lancashire 3-20 (29) A very exciting if quite low standard game (I only realised how low it was because the following two games had more quality). Monaghan started very quickly but Lancashire fought back to reach half time only one point down. The second half continued to swing back and forth. Monaghan started to pull away but Lancashire fought back again as Monaghan held out for a just about deserved win. Nickey Rackard (Tier 4). Wicklow 1-20 (23) V Donegal 3-12 (21) The second game started out with Donegal much the stronger team and they took a comfortable lead of 6 points just before half time. Wicklow got two quick scores before half time to cut the deficit to four points. The second half was fairly even in chances created. The difference was is that Wicklow took nearly all of theirs, whereas Donegal had too many wides and paid the price as Wicklow gained a well deserved win. Christy Ring Finals (Tier 3). Meath 1-23 (26) V Derry 1-21 (24) The final game was the classic case of a game of two halves! Meath were superb in the first half as they dominated a lacklustre Derry team at half time by 10 points. In the second half Meath continued to dominate. And were as much as 13 points clear of Derry, only for something to change. Derry finally woke up and were within one point of Meath with a minute to go. Only for Meath to score the final point. Derry had a man sent off when 7 points down late on for two yellows. Both very Harsh, one for a Meath player half his size walking into him, the second for a Meath player accidentally being hit in the head with a Hurl. A great day's entertainment. Attendance was about 7000. Though most fans only seemed to stay for their Counties match.
  25. Over in Ireland for a long weekend of Sport and museums. First up. League of Ireland and Tallaght stadium for Shamrock Rovers V Dundalk. 2-0 Rovers. Attendance 5602. Ticket 20 Euros Programme 5 Euros. Rovers were somewhat depleted as they had 3 players sent off last week at Cork City. A game they only lost 1-0 to a late goal. Rovers though were by far the better team. In this. They took the lead when a good cross on the right gave Aaron Greene a tap in on 35 minutes. The second half started with Dundalk trying to get back into the game. And they had a great opportunity when Rovera had a man sent off for a last man foul. But Rovers dug in and looked the more likely and Aaron Greene doubled his and Rovers tally with a super goal on the counter attack. He rounded the goalkeeper and finished into an empty goal. Dundalk tried to get back into the game. But Rovers were the far more dangerous team. And deserved the win. Note that match programme has the wrong date on it.
