  1. Scottish Non-League Programme of the Year 2015-16

Having only really seen Lowland League programmes i would have to agree Whitehill and Edinburgh city are the best available in terms of content. Always a good read.
  2. Scottish Cup of the Day (part 1)

A comfortable win in the end for Spartans. Not a vintage performance but we are in the hat for the next round, which is the main thing. 3 well taken goals from Murrells and good to see Robbie Ross back and scoring. For me David Greenhill was impressive once again and has been a great signing.
  3. First weekend thoughts?

I took in 2 games this weekend. Firstly Edinburgh City against Gretna followed by Stirling Uni v Spartans. Edinburgh City did what they had to do to win the game without being overly impressive. Gretna were poor and lacked much going forward. Overall City deserved the win and will be difficult to beat this year. From a Spartans point of view Sean Mushin played well, and scored, i would have liked to have seen him back at Ainslie Park this year, but sadly he has moved on. Today was my first visit to Fortbank. A good game ending in a 1-1 draw. Spartans were the better team in the first half but couldn't score. The Uni scored first in the second half and Spartans fought back well to claim a draw. However i think deserved all 3 points today. With some players missing our squad may not be the strongest in the league but there was some promising play today and given a few games the team will improve. For me Thomson played well at the back along with Stevenson and Greenhill in midfield. Murray put in a good shift up front and deserved his goal. All in all a decent game today. The Uni will cause teams problems this season which should make for an interesting season.
  4. Spartans EOS

It has now been confirmed that Colin Tomassi will take over the EOS team. Here is the update from the Spartans website : Spartans East of Scotland side have unveiled Colin Tomassi as their new Manager. The former Civil Service Strollers Assistant Manager makes the short move across North Edinburgh to take over the reins ahead of the 2015/16 season opening fixture against Duns in the League Cup Qualifying Group on Saturday 1st August. Tomassi, who has also had spells with Craigroyston and Leith Athletic during his coaching career said, “I’ve known Dougie Samuel (the Lowland League side Manager) for some time and Spartans are a top club to be involved with. “We had a long chat recently and discussed the vision of how the EOS and Lowland League sides would be working together this season and I’ve come on board to help assist with what Dougie is seeking to achieve.” Tomassi not only has a wealth of coaching knowledge to bring to the role but he is also able to glean from an extensive playing career as a midfielder with Hibs, Meadowbank Thistle, Berwick Rangers before plying his trade with Bonnyrigg Rose, Linlithgow Rose, Newtongrange Star and Haddington Juniors. A stint in the Amateur ranks followed before finally hanging up his boots at 43 years of age. For 2015/16, Tomassi is enthused and optimistic about the season ahead, “Ultimately it will be about bringing younger players through – but it’s also to ensure that this won’t be at the expense of winning. Trying to do both is going to be a challenge, but that is what I’m here to do.” Tomassi will be joined in the dug-out by Chris Anderson who undertakes a Player / Coach role. The first East of Scotland League game will be against Tomassi’s former club Civil Service, themselves now managed by ex-EOS gaffer Alex Cunningham at Ainslie Park on Saturday 22nd August.
  5. Mcbookie odds

BSC Glasgow at 50/1 is a great price!!!! I don't think they will be far away this season.
  6. Preseasonwatch 2015

Good to see where some of the players have gone, as not many updates from the club. Certainly a rebuilding process this season by the looks of it!!
  7. Confirmed Squads 2015/16

From a Spartans point of view, it's difficult to say. The squad appears to be as follows Blair Carswell Ross Gilpin Ali MacKinnon Eddie Malone Michael Herd Jack Blaikie John Grant David Greenhill Craig Stevenson Jack Beesley Dean Horribine Dan Ward Alan Brown Blair Atkinson Keith Murray Aaron Murrell There also appears to be a few EOS players and Under 20's playing in the friendlies so far this season. Not sure if they will be permanents in the squad but hopefully there will be a few more signings to come before the season starts. Those that have left appear to be Kevin Sivewright ?? Kevin Swain to Lothian Thistle Mikey Bruce to Whitehill Errol Douglas ?? Ketih McLeod to Spartans EOS Donal Henretty to Spartans EOS Jack Nixon ?? Kevin Motion to Newtongrange Jack Beacher ?? IanThomson ?? Robbie Ross ??
  8. Grim O'Grady

Very similar to yours. I saw my first game at City Park against Pollock in a Scottish cup replay in Oct 2008. We won the game 1-0. I was looking for a local team to support and the Scottish cup game i went to was the best game on that weekend in the minor leagues. Thankfully I made a good choice!! After this I went to a few more games that season and saw the last game at City Park against Edinburgh City in May 2009. After this I got a season ticket for the following season and have been going to games ever since as often as I can. I will hopefully be down tomorrow and buying my season ticket for the season ahead.

Hope things are getting easier for you. Good to see you posting highlights of the game last weekend. Out of curiosity what was the first Spartans game you ever attended?
  10. Transfer Window

Absolutely - good luck to them if they decide to move on. It would be nice to see some of the Eos team move into into the LL team, but maybe there are others being brought in?
  11. Transfer Window

As a Spartans fan I would welcome a clear out before next season. I think it is time to freshen things up. I would be disappointed if Cunningham and Stewart left as I think they are both decent players and could do well in the LL. It will be interesting to see how things develop over the coming weeks
  12. Play-Off of the Day - Saturday 25th April

I will be heading along to this one. As a Spartans fan I wish we were in the play-offs but this season City have been by far the best team in the league. All credit to them and I wish them all the best. It should be an interesting game and I think City will need to take a couple of goals lead into the return fixture.

Hi John, I am a collector of Spartans FC Scottish Cup programmes and just need a few to complete my collection. Do you have any available? Regards Scott
  14. The Alloa Athletic Thread

Good evening I am looking to buy a copy of a programme from the Alloa v Spartans Scottish Cup tie in 2003. The game took place on the 20th December 2003 and ended in 3-3 draw. If anyone has a copy that they would be willing to sell I will happily pay a fair price for the programme and for postage. Any help would be appreciated. Please get in touch either by replying to this topic or PM me, thanks. Regards Scott
