The St. Mirren FC 2023/24 thread
davidmcc replied to djchapsticks's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
I'd be very surprised if this doesn't mean someone is coming in. Unless of course we needed to Joe to move to balance the books. -

I've a work colleague who is a Mackem and he said exactly that. -

Way too many unknowns at this point. Urminsky, Strain, Bacchus and Ayunga could be brilliant. Gallagher may get back to his best. Brophy might stay relatively fit. Main can only be better than last season (well possibly at least). -

True. But the 3-0 gubbing at Fir Park first tiime up the following season helped cheer me up a bit. -

I don't think Jordan Jones was ever close to full fitness with us. A decent pre-season and he could be a different player. -

If the very best prospects are picked for a low £100k plus add ons/% of future transfers that doesn't preclude others breaking into the first team. It's not binary and quite possibly will be the reality. -

I'd honestly avoid all players with a past history of missing significant numbers of games. It's like paying a player double salary. Charles Dunne as an example. -

That we are still in negotiations with some players at the club according to the manager is interesting too. McCarthy and Grieve extending would be a win. The rest seem likely to be off already. "We're in negotiations with numerous players both at the club and elsewhere as we look to add to what is a good core of players." -
I did think this was another random bluff BUT https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/apr/21/erik-ten-hag-appointed-manchester-united-manager-ajax

Apparently this will happen again. Sore one after how good Peter has been particularly today. He's a top class keeper who is going to go on and play at a level far above this. -

I can't see that we have spent the entire budget if we were pursuing Kennedy. -

Again conjecture on my part. Think that observation must been made to the player more than once in private and this was a lever to measure the level of his commitment. Equally Northampton could just have offered more money and a longer deal. -

Think the manager's comments were quite deliberate. Are you willing to work hard enough to be better player? He's 26 and this is his 8th club which may say a lot. -

Frank 'Crazy Legs' McGarvey indeed!! -
https://peel.fandom.com/wiki/Meadowbank_Thistle Entirely because a group of extremely droll supporters invited me to join them for a match and subsequently took me to Hampden Park where 300 benighted souls - and that 300 includes the Queens Park enthusiasts - huddled together on the open terraces across which snow stormed and the wind shrieked in a manner that would have had Amundsen sucking his teeth apprehensively. "Give us an F," they roared. "Give us an I, give us an S, give us a U, give us an L," they continued. "What does that spell?" they wanted to know. "Fisul!" they concluded. How could I have doubted, even for a moment, but I stood and suffered with the very cream of mankind?

St Mirren v Motherwell 17/10
davidmcc replied to Lola montez's topic in Scottish Premiership General Chatter
Off topic I know. Funnily enough I was on the pitch in Kampala a couple of years ago not long after had played a World Cup qualifier. Uganda between Salah's team 1 - 0. The surface was worse than the pitches in summer at the Racecourse in Paisley. -
Scotlands last genuine world class player?
davidmcc replied to RobbieD's topic in Tartan Army Ramblings
Not saying Robertson is world class but as a comparator the Guardian top 100 so far looks highly dubious IMO. -

The six figure sums for McDougall and Somner was money well spent. The set of tracksuits for Tommy Wilson and Stevie Clarke wasn't bad either. -
