  1. Would have taken McKenzie, but judging by most observations from the Lolkirk game Matthews would be okay as #2. The other places (and potental absences as hinted at) are in more urgent need of solving.
  2. Very surprised. That lack of a performance on Monday should have had any manager of a professional team binned straight after the game. Be some laugh if the Dons nick a dirty wee 1-0 win on Saturday then get pumped by St Murn the following week with the window shut...
  3. Jeebus. Darvel doing what they did in November and looking like they actually want this. Dons utterly phoning it in so far.
  4. Still getting a better view than they would at new Meadowbank TBF
  5. Not bitter* or anything, but hope the Dons murder this financially doped up sack of pies. ETA: Full on David Brent pish from this manger here. Boak.
  6. Vital win, which hopefully will give a bit of confidence back to the team. Think we just about deserved it - our midfield worked well today, which isn't something I've typed much in the last two months. I'm putting the QOS penalty miss down to karma because it looked very soft, as already mentioned. Bartley has a lot of dreck to clear out in that side.
  7. It's been an odd season, we've veered violently between looking very handy (Dunfermline at home) and being an utter mess (Darvel at home). I think we probably have to grin and bear the next two games (especially this Saturday) and hope SP gets a decent window draw before Kelty. Season now hinges on it - either we beef up and keep gnawing at top 4, or fall into a slump and land up 6th/7th.
  8. Not a great game, that. Peterhead looked better today than they did in the first game at Balmoor, and did create some chances, but still think they're in dire straits league-wise. We didn't do enough to win the game simply, and it's knocking on two months without one now. Some January activity needed: rightback and midfield a must, possibly even a striker, or we can forget the top 4.
  9. Nah, Soots is one of the good guys. Think I posted when he got his card he could be capable of the PDC top 32 and he's right in there. Have seen quite a few games so far - forgot how much absolute dreck you get in round one.....
  10. Some say he was a fat untalented dreadlocked Poundland Chris Morris. His critics were less kind.
  11. Thank you. Fully expected the Smokies to walk back down the metaphorical mountain, but not plummet off the north face entirely. Ooft.
  12. My short take is that was two teams who are capable of playing better but didn't, and ended up largely cancelling each other out. Happily take a point and move on.
  13. Alloa are my dark horses for this season, we'll do well to get anything from this. 2-2 draw would be a decent result given how many we've let in lately. Even if we end up losing this, I'd at least want to see a better performance than last week's shitshow.
  14. Just saw this earlier - found the film awkwardly caught between not being funny enough to be a comedy and not scary/edgy/etc enough to be a thriller/horror. Wasn't bad as such once the slowish start is over, but Ray Fiennes' OTT performance was probably the only thing that stopped me mentally checking out on it. 5/10, 2 of which are down to him. Fully expect this to end up on a semi-regular loop on the 9pm Horror Channel slot in a year or two.
  15. Someone today did point out that if you build a side with quite a few loan signings who become integral parts of the team, you leave your arse hanging out in the breeze in a cup tie if they all get vetoed. Our XI today looked undercooked, had no midfield to it, and from 1-3 onwards it was only going to end in defeat. Your mileage may vary, but I still think on the MFC cup embarrasment-o-meter, Lothian Thistle was worse. Darvel are at least a well financed outfit with plenty of experience - LTHV were a bunch of largely untried/untested kids who we had two bites at, and still couldn't put away. But, yes, today felt horribly familiar when it comes to the cup.
  16. A very dispiriting afternoon, with crowd trouble being the sour cherry on a shite-coated cake. Lazy geographical comparison perhaps, but Darvel remind me of an Allan Moore era Stranraer team - not pretty, but very physical and effective, and didn't waste any chances to score. Dodgy backline/keeper aside, they weren't overly troubled. We, by contrast, looked all over the shop for long periods and couldn't get the ball to stick. For 20 minutes of that second half, we didn't even look interested in playing football, utterly criminal. The opposition simply wanted that more, and smelt blood against a much changed and imbalanced home team. Another decent shot at an SC money spinning game pissed away, annoyingly. *off to a darkened room*.
  17. Has been rather funny watching all the usual suspects here go from hero worship to gnashing teeth within six months regarding the bunnet - fact is many of the qualities that make him good (authoritarian stubbornness being the most obvious) are also what can make him bad. Still, I doubt he's getting sacked even if Fraserburgh toss you into the harbour and you end up relegated. Not really worried about SP heading down the A92 imminently, wouldn't mind seeing him there in a few years after you've done a Brechin and need rescuing from the HL </banter>
  18. Not blinkered at all - I thought Kelty took control towards the end of the first half, and totally bossed the second after getting level. We didn't really cause your tricky forward four enough issues, and I was delighted when you hooked Cardle. Today was a demonstration that even if you're playing toilet and things look difficult, if you keep a team out (Sinclair was excellent today) then you can still hit and run with the points. The ball from (IIRC) Callaghan to put Webby in for the second was absolutely X-rated filth. Great win for us today, very happy indeed. ETA: don't usually comment on them but really poor referee today, not sure if a novice but really looked out of his depth TBH.
  19. Damn, was hoping Lesser would be ready by December for ground bagging purposes. Might head to our cup game anyway as I've never had the QP at Hampden, err, experience. At least you're getting 'home' quicker than Clyde ever will, arf.
  20. Paul Hegarty to un-retire for the lolz/seethe. Being serious, not sure there's a lot of slam-dunk local managerial candidates out there with experience of a firefight. Tough appointment this because if you get it wrong, you're going down the U-bend.
  21. Can't really add much for us - will happily take that, especially after the first half as these are the type of games you just have to stick away. Thought Gardyne deserved MOTM for a really determined engine-room shift today. It's only November, but Peterhead are already into snookers required/miracle territory to stay up: a slightly more clinical team would've had 6 or 7 today against that shoddy mess of a backline, and they've zip all up front until/if Rusty comes back. I do wonder if McInally may finally walk soon....
  22. I know we'll probably end up with Clyde at home as fucking usual, but quite simply:
  23. Ooft, enjoyed that second one going in, I can tell you. Not a lot between the sides I didn't think, and the opener came slightly against the run of play. Two very nice finishes. Steeves, Waddell, and Sinclair all excellent today in keeping the scariest of the Pars attacks out. (McPake does seem to like a 'physical' side: for a team top of the league they work hard but no flair at all). Very encouraged by our showing today.
