  1. Forfar have been nothing if not consistent this season, but maybe not in the way their fans wanted - draws or dross, take your pick.

With East Fife revving up and facing a stuttering Stenny we really need to go for this.  As such I'd definitely play Carlo from the off and bench Calum Wilson.  Elsewhere the team picks itself but James Graham could be a useful option on a pitch which should be conducive to football.

Stenhousemuir had a capitulation to end all capitulations a number of years back. 2006ish? I'm not for a minute suggesting it will happen again, in fact Gary Naysmith is far too shrewd a gaffer.

I think the only capitulation to rival it was Raith Rovers in 1980-81.

Nicky Jamieson is now injured, they can't buy a goal and several players look as if they are feeling the pressure.  This could be the biggest collapse since Devon Loch.

  3. Excitement for this one seems to be a bit short of fever-pitch.  According to the OS Blair could be a doubt but with no mention of Crighton I'm assuming he's available.

Given all that, perhaps we'll see a Crighton/Durnan central defence with young Lennon resuming at left-back.  Or perhaps Blair Malcolm to start.  Who knows ?

Here's hoping the weight of history sits very heavily on maroon shoulders tomorrow.

Absolutely correct that others were involved in Italy's Unification as a country, but Garabaldi has been pushed to the fore as a driving force.

    Love his biscuits.

I can thoroughly recommend the book 'The Hero's Way' by Tim Parks.

I see that Companies House have now published an initial notice proposing to strike Clyde of the Register of companies, because of its annual confirmation statement now being months overdue.

I wouldn't worry about, this sort of thing is a normal state of affairs at Dumbarton - the latest is annual accounts.

"Finally did get on" 🤭 He came on for Robertson after 35 minutes. You're making it sound like he only got the last 10 minutes of the game. Shankland started against The Netherlands. I assume you didn't want Dykes or Adams to get any minutes or both just from the bench then?

Both Shankland and Ferguson's minutes for Scotland have increased recently. Not enough it seems.

Where Ferguson is concerned it shouldn't have taken an injury to Robertson for him to appear, the guy should have had much more game time long before now - last night was an ideal opportunity to start him.

And yes, Shankland did start against the Netherlands and he should have started last night too.  The guy has shown enough to merit it, or are you going to tell us that Dykes or Adams were going to produce some blinding revelations ?

Seeing as ‘we don’t do friendlies’ is basically an exact quote from me, I’d be suggesting replacing ‘airily dismiss’ with putting in perspective. I’m not suggesting everything will be fine in Germany, because they may not be. But that is as true today as it was 6-12 months ago.

What I basically said was that there’s no need to lose the rag over things we already knew about this squad, of which we learned nothing new last night.

Well perhaps we learned nothing new because the Manager stuck too much to type in his team selection in what was after all a home friendly match.

Dykes was chosen over Shankland, despite him toiling in a struggling QPR team, whilst Shankland had shown enough in cameos and on Friday night to justify a start.  Similarly, John McGinn has recently gone off the boil at club level so here was a chance to start Lewis Ferguson who is having a great season with Bologna.  When he finally did get on he produced energy and forward runs which had hitherto been absent.

So an opportunity to 'learn something new' was virtually squandered when it was obvious from 25 minutes in that we were right off it.  In singling out these players above I don't think anyone emerged with credit and I hope Patterson doesn't become the lightning rod for criticism because it was shite from back to front.

It is a bit worrying. What development did we get from that game?

We didn’t find a way to break down a fairly poor team.

We picked players who aren’t getting a regular game for their clubs and/or who are out of form and we found out that isn’t a great idea.

We found out our defence still isn’t great, our forwards aren’t doing the business and we rely heavily on our star turns in midfield.

If it was me in charge at the SFA, I’d get the Think Tank warmed up because it won’t be long until things are falling to bits again and everyone is wailing and gnashing their teeth at the state of the game in Scotland.

There’ll be calls for more Scottish boys to get a regular game in the Scottish Premiership, more foreign coaches from successful footballing countries, more indoor pitches. While the fans sit and fester in the rain.

The circle of life for Scottish Football. Glorious.

This.  Anyone paying close attention in recent years will recognise that in a few instances the results have been better than the performances, but as usual the media and a sizeable section of the support live purely for the moment.

This obviously isn't a good moment, and to those who airily dismiss the last few games on the basis that 'we don't do friendlies' then historically we don't do Finals very well either.

Last night again served to highlight that when we can't get our best team on the pitch then we can struggle badly.  This will not be a revelation to Stevie Clarke, but I would respectfully suggest that he questions his faith in certain players.

Every time we play you post some sort of 'bait' and no one ever takes it. You're better saving it for fans of those who fall for the 'name 3 scorers in a 2-0 win' types

I think you've just taken it my friend.  And my good pal Peter has a point; nineteen (19) replies on the recent Stenhousemuir v Peterhead match thread hardly suggests that the Warriors waltzing to the title has captured the public's imagination.

You would think that it would be the supporters of the club from Shropshire displaying Union Jacks.

Curiously enough, when we played ICT in the final in 2016 about twenty young tossers turned up in our support with union flags.  They were promptly hounded.

That though was an aberration, today isn't.

Couldn’t care less what they’re called. However, poindexters coming on this thread and constantly correcting people for referring to the SPFL as the only senior league set up when they know fine well what they mean is just getting somewhat tedious.

I agree Scott, but as the originator I pledge to do better.  Meantime take a greenie.
