  1. You disagree with someone that's fine; that's what discussion forums are all about; but why do you have to resort to petty and frankly childish insults? You seem to have been registered on the forum for a while so, unless you registered whilst you were still potty training, I assume you are not a pubescent teenager wrapped up in anger and frustration. If you want to defend the guy or criticise the way in which he left that's fine. I am sure there re many that would respect your stance. You and Livi4Ever obviously have a history of animosity. I don't know the history and am frankly FAR too old to waste time trolling back through posts until it first started but PLEASE; PLEASE; PLEASE can you not both sort it out? PM each other or whatever. I don't always agree with Livi4Ever but leastways have learnt to respect his opinion or at least his right to hold one even if it is contrary to mine. Through all the anger you have also shown yourself to make some good points. At the end of the day guys we're all Livi supporters and as such a relatively rare breed. Lets fight together rather than against each other.
  2. Funnily enough about 30 years ago a group I worked with persuaded me to go and see them at home. We got the bus at Harthill and, just before getting there, some of the patrons asked if I was up for "a bottle of buckie under the bridge". Needless to say I declined,
  3. I miss-read that the first time thinking you were defending Sevco. Your knowledge of nineties cartoons is obviously a lot better than mine (although I think two of my kids used to watch it at the time).
  4. I think the Spaghettihad was the only stadium nickname mentioned on Sportscene - although I could be wrong.
  5. Didn't Morton fans start calling the St Mirren stadium the Methadrome?
  6. Generally seemed pretty reliable - the only criticism I had, other than his awful catch-phrase, was that time that we had a young pipe band entertaining us at half time (boys brigade?) and he proceeded to make announcements all the way through; most of which were unnecessary.
  7. Thanks. TBH as a club that don't own their own stadium we are at least free from the normal asset strippers that used to haunt the Scottish leagues. That doesn't free us from charlatans and bampot however unfortunately.
  8. I think he might have been referring to the post from L4E you were responding to. Not sure he meant to ask you the question as it didn't seem to make sense. In response to your original question I hadn't noticed that comment from the announcer either so you and I (and LIVI apparently) are both in the dark.
  9. Also in the unlikely event that we were going to be able to win promotion we'd probably have to spend a chunk on relaying a new grass pitch. With no artificial surfaces in the Premiership they're bound to ban them.
  10. The only think I can generally make out from the west stand speakers is "lets make all the noise" and that's probably only because I know its coming.
  11. The fanbase numbers worry me probably more than anything else. Killie for example sold over 4000 season tickets this season. In the championship I think eight out of the ten regularly have home crowds that match or exceed our numbers. In our first season in the SPL our regular home support was between 4 and 5K.
  12. No shortage of clubs that thought they could bounce straight back including Dunfermline; Cally Thistle; Partick; Hamilton and perhaps Dundee United. We also thought the same under Flynn. Although the play offs have made it somewhat more interesting very few championship clubs seem to win promotion that way. Dundee with significantly more resources than us also found it a bit of a struggle. With this in mind we really need someone with the staying power to hang around; who has the ability not only to build a new team from scratch but to mould in and keep it together - not try and sell off the best assets in some kind of garage sale every time someone from the media writes a piece about them.
  13. IF we go down I very much doubt we'll be in the financial position to be able to afford a DOF. I would guess that would be equivalent to 1 or 2 full time players.
  14. I think Brian Rice made it clear he didn't relish the no 1 position. Marvin Bartley seems to have struggled a bit with QOS. There are several others in the championship with Livi connections but would probably opt to stay where they were. Of course the other question is what is their primary aim assuming we do go down? Are we looking to "Roar back" or consolidate? After all there's no guarantee with more than half the team away that we'll be able to maintain the Championship level comfortably.
  15. Not sure "strong support for the manager" has any bearing on it. My position is that every manager in any football club seems to have a finite time after which its time to move on. This can be for a variety of reasons, not just performance, but most critical is that when things start to go into meltdown they are incapable of turning things around. There will be some that argue that we stuck with Hopkins after demotion and he took us right up again but that was different. Hopkin's was only appointed after Burchill left and relegation was clearly on the cards. I think most would agree that Martindale has performed wonders to even keep us in the Premiership for as long as he has but in my opinion he's clearly the wrong sort of manager to take us back up. His attacking ability has never been his strong point and the current tactic or continually playing it back until finally gets to the goalkeeper who proceeds to boot it out for a throw-in is not the way to get promoted (or even avoid relegation). Ultimately sure it must be a case of time up, and to be perfectly honest I'm not sure I can take any more of those "its my responsibility" speeches. NSS!
  16. Thought the attack down both wings yesterday was particularly poor but the right wing seemed to be the worst. I've liked Bradley in the past but he seemed to have virtually no application yesterday.
  17. Effectively we are customers or punters or whatever its called. Comparing an "entertainment" industry element to a retail company is a bit more of a stretch. For a start within the retail sector you have rights concerning quality of service and goods. Within our "contract" of sale with the club (or any other live performance entertainment). Unlike car-sales for example where you have a variety of rights; post sales warranty etc. we have nothing other than X number of games are going to be held. We have no recourse of the quality of players actually turning out for the game (there could presumably even fill the team with reserves or youngsters); there is no guarantee as to results or league position etc. Our strongest and principally only comeback is footfall. In principle Pay-at-the-gates punters represent the biggest commercial impact from results/performance. Season ticket holders unfortunately don't have that control mid-season having already paid their money. Unfortunately, except for some category A games, the demand for PATG home tickets seem almost invisible.
  18. Yes; we're kind of getting off the point really. David Martindale has obviously done an excellent job over the past few years but its getting increasingly clear that he's unable to turn the current bad run of form (over the past year plus) around. The personal stuff is unnecessary.
  19. I know of a number of people who refused to return to the club because of Martindale's past; whilst others mentioned the like of Alan Lithgow and David Robertson. The problem became more apparent because of our label (now almost forgotten) of being a family club. People were unhappy with bringing their young children to a club where people with such backgrounds held positions of importance. I found the narcotics history to be a particularly difficult one to deal with but he certainly did seem particularly contrite and regretful of his past. He seemed determined not only to turn his own life around but also to help as many others as he could. In the early stages this seemed to work particularly well with the team; many of whom had been through their own struggles; whether personal issues; performance or injury plagued careers - players whose careers had either plateaued or failed to get of the ground. Of late that particular card seems to have lost its magic. The man who could mold an entire dressing room out of the leftovers of the footballing world does seem to have list the knack. There are a number though who have never returned to the club; even though we had a couple of seasons with top six finishing our home season ticket sales seem to have rarely exceeded 1,200 which is frankly appalling for a top flight team. I'm not putting that all down to him; a large blame must be carried by the negative press over the years of a number of "colourful characters". Plus our marketing is pretty poor. Pretty much every football manager (other than Alex Ferguson) has a shelf life after which they need to move on. Its becoming increasingly apparent this is David Martindale's time. It is probably right for him as well as the club that he looks to take on another challenge with another club. He's already proved that he can do it on a particularly tight budget and under challenging circumstances so should have no problem getting another appointment.
  20. I was being ironic; although I suspect you already guessed that. Simply put we either get angry or try to see the humour of the situation; as difficult as that may seem.
  21. Ideally that should have happened weeks ago. I'm not going to start on about what should have happened and what we should have done; certainly not tonight but I must admit I was disappointed to see Martindale in the dugout. I had hoped for some of Hastings/Rice drive or even something different.
  22. I disagree! St Johnstone and Ross County are going to lose their remaining games before the break. We will get full points from Celtic and Aberdeen... Its game on.... EDIT - what the hell was in those cookies my son gave me?
  23. Does for me; that was one of the worst displays I think I've ever seen from a Livi side. i appreciate sickness was rife but that was worse than embarrassing.
  24. A few weeks back I said there was hope because the team were still battling unlike the time we were getting relegated from the SPL. That time the team were totally devoid of ideas; couldn't string two passes together and had no cohesive movement. At the time I thought there was a difference to the team we had now - the only thing that now seems different are the names. Least-ways Lambert walked last time.
  25. Sickness and diarrhea actually - though you would have noticed with so many sh1t performances.
