  1. Some tasty challenges. Unlike the pies - they're shocking!
  2. He arrived on horseback with the other 3 riders of the apocalypse?
  3. I thought I was doing well with my 25-milers. I can see I've a ways to go yet. Was out yesterday and I've now got sunburnt thighs. The rest of my legs are still peely-wally white but the upper side of my thighs are bacon-pink. The wife thinks it's hilarious.
  4. That's a new one on me. So climate change is a tool of capitalism then?
  5. Climate change? Buy a hat. Honestly, you youngsters panic about the slightest wee things.
  6. http://news.sky.com/skynews/Home/Technology/Tour-De-France-Mark-Cavendish-Shows-Sky-News-His-McLaren-F1-Team-Designed-Bike/Article/201107116022697?lpos=Technology_Third_Home_Page_Feature_Teaser_Region_0 £6500 for the frame & forks?
  7. That's really nice. Do you think it could match up to mine?
  8. Just back from doing the North Third around Stirling. Wow, that's some workout! 13 miles of rural roads, lots of "up" and loads of exhilarating "downs". According to the online gps thing, the fastest I was going was 28mph downhill but that was still scary and faster than my legs could go on the pedals. Changed the tyres to less knobbly ones, but the chain/gears have developed some worrying creaks/clicks.
  9. How come they both get to wear such similar strips? It must be hell for folk watching in Black & White surely?
  10. Ah, that's pretty serious. It sounds like a probable Patellar Subluxation with Iliotibal Band Discombobulation causing Retrusion of the Meniscus Fibrocartilagin into the Medial Menisci. Can I have your bike now you don't need it? Only joking Did my 22 mile run to the Falkirk Stadium & back today. Slight improvement on time but it felt like cycling through treacle when the wind turned.
  11. Do they still dig up bodies there? Can't believe I got another puncture today. This thing goes down more often than the wife.
  12. Yeah, the rain doesn't bother me either (bought a mudguard today). Had a puncture the other day and had to push the bike three miles home as I didn't have a spare with me. Somebody said using the uber-knobbly tyres on the road is asking for trouble with punctures, is that right? I'm loathe to buy new tyres when I could be saving for a better bike.
  13. aaaaaaaaaah - I might need to change the stem too then
  14. That's a nice-looking bike at a good price. We need an accurate review
  15. Great shot by Murray, but I would have jumped the net and punched his pus if he did that to me.
  16. Well, my pre-season started in earnest today. It's my intention to use the bike to go to as many Bairns home games as possible next season. It's about 12 miles from my door in Stirling to the Bairnebau, a straight-ish road and slightly uphill both ways. In order to replicate match day conditions as much as possible, I had a wee bit too much to drink last night and a nice curry. At 1pm I mounted my trusty second-hand Tescos mountain bike with it's tractor tyres and set off. It was a nice enough day and no dramas meant I arrived at the stadium 1hr and 12 minutes later having travelled 11.84 miles according to the Endomo-thingy GPS. Average speed 10mph and a top speed of 15mph - not exactly impressive. I checked out facilities at the stadium - 1 bike shed out the front with about 5 anchorage points. I guess that might get a bit busy but there's loads of lamp-posts to chain the bike to. In the spirit of keeping things as close to match day conditions as possible, but in the absence of the pie stall, my next port of call was McDonalds. Curiously, there were no bike lock-up points at McDonalds. Stopping to eat may have been a mistake as when I came out it was chucking it down. I felt truly miserable as I set off - cold, wet, stiff and with a congealing McLump in my gut. However it wasn't long before I warmed up again and I grimaced happily as I swooshed through the dubs. It might be an idea to get some mudguards at some point though. My arse got sprayed more thoroughly than a non-swimmer at a Barrymore party. The return trip was done in a virtually identical time so I reckon commuting to the games is entirely feasible.
  17. Took a wander into Smith's in Falkirk today and they've pointed me in the direction of these beasts - http://www.evanscycl...ampaign=froogle or possibly http://www.evanscycl...=sirrus%20sport Hmm. Dunno.
  18. Sounds like good advice. I'd say I'm fairly fit, I'm in the gym often enough but at forty-cough my knees are still aching from that 40km. The mountain bike is really annoying me - I'm never out of the top 3 gears and even in top gear with my legs fair birlin', I don't make much progress. Can't afford a new bike just now, so it might just have to be ebay for me.
  19. Aye, for some weird reason the wind seemed to be in my face for most yesterday. 40 km in 3 hrs isn't that good I suspect. Be interesting to see what speeds I would get if I wasn't on a Tescos mountain bike.
