One for the near future hopefully. Unbelievable decision to keep bairstow for next test. I'm convinced Stokes would turn down Gilchrist at his peak in favour of his mate.

Delighted for Woakes and Wood. Two genuinely good all round cricketers and decent guys who have both had a raw deal over the years, especially Woakes. Now time to get Foakes in and play some proper cricket instead of the abomination that is Bazball. There is a series available for the winning if they have the brains to play the way they should. Nothing wrong with attacking cricket but you have to take cognisance of the match situation, the opponents bowlers and the pitch conditions.

If you throw into the equation waqar and Wasim plus Donald and Pollock then Atherton faced some of the greatest bowlers going. His average would be ten higher in a different era. Also remember his crippling back issues meant to could no longer be as fluent or flexible at the crease. He was a top batsman.

I think you've done a magnificent job Slips and I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we'd love you to take over again in July. The effort you put into the group was tremendous and we miss you doing it. The weekly cups were a fantastic invention and kept everyone involved. Thanks also to Edmund who also does a great job. Slippy I am sure he will gladly pass the baton back to you in July. Best wishes to you and your family.
