  1. I really like Garry and I think he has a lot to offer. But don't think he is irreplaceable. On his day he can be unplayable, but it doesn't happen as often as I feel it should. He is a massive fans favourite because he is a local lad who clearly loves playing for Dumbarton. For what it is worth, I think he wants to sign so it is likely. I just hate how folk make out he is one of the best players in the squad when in reality there are a few much more important. I'd be more happy to see Aggy, Kirkpatrick, Taggart and Andy Graham signed up. I hope no one takes this as a hate post, I like Garry as a player and a person. Great guy to have at our club.
  2. Over the 2 seasons... so yeah. Last year they were in the play offs and could have been in our league with hearts in the season just finished.
  3. It's a shame Longworth is signed up at Stranraer already. Always thought he would have been a good player at this level. Ironic that Mark McGuigan signed up at Stranraer just last week when he was rumoured to be a target for us just days before. If Aitken is appointed I will be delighted. Out of all the names going around he would have been my pick. It won't be easy but I think he is as good a man as anyone for the job right now.
  4. He was signed because they needed someone to fill the spot of u20s goalkeeper. Pretty much the only reason. If we had ended up with 3 goalkeepers' injured/unavailable during last season, I firmly believe we would have shipped in an emergency loan before playing Josh. Just the way things work with our youth system unfortunately.
  5. Josh was offered a contract I believe, but it must surely have been on the same terms as this year. Even with the u20s he wasn't always playing as Jamie Ewings was coming in every now and again to get game time. Young lad who didn't really get much of a chance to impress. He did always look nervous but regular game time at a junior side will do him the world of good.
  6. Geggan isn't the same level as Turner. We have progressed a lot since he was with us.
  7. More to the point, Paddy Flannery scored the 1 goal for the Stephen Grindlay team.
  8. Interesting reading that Andy! Sounds almost like every other player has been offered some kind of deal to me.Didn't really think we would offer as many of the squad new deals. ETA: Doubt very much that Mitch will drop down to that level. He didn't have a great season, but should easily find another team in the league below us.
  9. Pretty sure the second game away to Hearts was pay at the gate. But, to be honest they didn't have to be given priority on away tickets as no venue we travel to has that limited a capacity. I guess if we drew a small team in the cup it might happen??
  10. That is my thinking behind it to be honest. Of all the players who have 'dropped down' to join us. Have any worked out well?? Players who have been with Alloa or Cowden have played at this level and know it quite well. They also won't want to drop down a league. FWIW I would take Spence over Buchanan. I agree that they have a couple of decent midfield players too. I'm not one for players returning to clubs just because they were good before, but I think a Ben Gordon and Andy Graham defence could work out very well. Either that or it would be horrifically bad!!
  11. Just out of interest, are there any Cowden players or Alloa players that may be tempted should they go down, that could do a job for us? I realise they have both been pretty poor and what not, but I think we have a better chance of signing players from that kind of level than persuading players to drop from FT to PT. Plus, there are definitely a couple of decent players in both teams squads.
  12. Not really surprised about any of those 3. Archie simply wasn't good enough from the moment he signed. Never really rated him too much. Like far too many previous players' he looked keen and runs about, but lacks the quality to actually do anything. Linton was a player who really was found out this season. Lack of pace and positioning sense really told when vs decent opposition. Throw ins were useful very occasionally but always felt we should have done more from them. Mitch has had a terrible season, but never really got going and then was dropped from the team. I reckon he may have something else lined up or have plans of moving nearer to home also. Drop down a league and there are a few teams up the east coast where he would stand out if he hit some form. Never know, a team may even play him up front!!! Nice to be rebuilding the team sharp. We do usually get things started pretty soon after the season. So I think the folk saying it is too early might just have it wrong. As opposed to the players deciding etc...
  13. Was brilliant yesterday when Stuart made Mark Stewart look rediculously slow!
  14. We should have simply told Mair that he wasn't playing again because he isn't good enough! Very naive and a bit silly if the contract he was given had a clause about certain amounts of appearances meaning he gets another years contract... but that being said, Lee Mair has been a bit of an idiot about the situation.
  15. Yeah, I know we haven't been playing the same flowing football and in an attacking sense, haven't even looked like the same team since January. But, this recent wee run of form has shown what character the team do have. Especially since the cowden defeat at home. We have picked up some points that we really didn't expect to get, as well as coming from behind vs Livi (I know it is a given but still). Biggest achievement yet I think.
  16. Couldn't agree much more. He would've been a great player to have this time last season. Without the need for the defensive side of things. But in our current squad he really is too much of a luxury. Extremely lightweight is bang on as well.
  17. There really is a lot of rubbish being posted here eh? Top trolling from Dan as well. CT hasn't been anywhere near the level of performances we were seeing last season - Cowden aside. The lightweight midfield lacks a player like him, but in his current form and shape, he is pretty useless. Pull Garry back into the middle and play young Hacksaw upfront with Archie off of him. Petrie should also start in the midfield, pretty sure he is a left sided midfielder so why not try him a LM and rest Mitch, or drop Archie and play Mitch off of Duggan? A few options and many different opinions, but Gilhaney has been our best player this season and CT has been one of the worst.
  18. Said after seeing him in only his 2nd match that he is quite clearly a cut above anyone we have. I would say he is comfortably the best player in our squad. Which says a lot considering. Brilliant prospect indeed.
  19. Thought Taggart looked pretty good vs Falkirk at RB. I thought he should always have been in CB but since Findlay came in he is head and shoulders above everyone else in the whole squad.
  20. Well Van Zanten, Taggart and Wilson. But DVZ is injured currently.ETA: Obviously Taggart is a bit more flexibly and can fill in the midfield and central defense.
  21. Decent addition I'd say. Thought he was a bit older than 30. Hopefully he does well.
  22. Didn't think he was as of his new contract at the start of the season. Not listed as a player on the site (I don't think) but I agree he is probably on the same - or even increased - wage as last season when he was a 'player'/manager.
  23. Not sure you are serious. Pretty sure he isn't getting a players wage. The giveaway was last season when he told fans at a meet the manager meeting, 'you won't see me playing' or something along those lines.
  24. His career could have been so much bigger had he been given the chance. Seemed every time he got the the premiership down south (3 or 4 times I think!!) He was left out of the squad or sent on loan. Never really given a proper chance. Still done really well right enough. Still look out for his name every week.
