  1. Didn't realise that Adam had scored so many, he started his junior career wth Kilsyth as that is his fathers home town. The competiion is certainly hotting up with almost half the season still to go. Our league is certainly the one for goals, 589 scored in 138 games so far, approx 4.37 goals a game. Any of these three, Adam, Gary & Salim could yet hit 50.
  2. I don't really think you are going to be underdogs against Kilbirnie, they are not having the best of times this season so far. really looking forward to your visit to Duncansfield though, we have something to prove after the embarrassment at your place earlier this season. How many has Gary Smith got this season so far, it could be a race between him and our striker, Salim, for the golden boot in our division
  3. resurrection put off till Easter but A decent performance till halftime then a total collapse. Liked your No 3, Brunton, posed a few problems for us early and made your goal. Keep your heads up, things will improve.
  4. Have faith, just look where Hurlford were a few years ago, down , but not quite out. They have risen from the nearly dead to the top.
  5. There were 11400 at Albyn Park in Broxburn in March 1951 for a 6th round Scottish cup tie V Kilsyth Rangers so maybe it was Broxburn fans who helped set your record. Was Bo'ness not in West Lothian at that time as I am pretty certain that they had some even larger crowds in that era?
  6. As usual on this forum a lot of name calling and blaming of who is right or wrong and which direction the club should be taking to remedy what is after all a very long standing problem. The responsibility for the present situation surely lies with those in charge not this year, or last year, but twenty years ago during the good times when cups were adorning the trophy cabinet, top players were being brought in for no doubt big money, but nothing was being invested in the infrastructure at Abbey park. It might have been acceptable then but the chickens have now come home to roost and the very future of the club is in doubt. Other clubs have invested in their facilities, I see small improvements at many grounds each time I visit, look at what Troon have created, Ardrossan and Glenafton also, and even at places like Craigmark and Kello (I know that these are not the towns) I see people trying to improve their facilities, nothing changed at Kilwinning for many years and what was done did nothing to address the lack of adequate changing rooms for both players and officials, what should have been top priority. Having said all thatI do wish those trying to find a solution all the best.
  7. The original laws of the game were drawn up by the (English) football association. nowadays it is FIFA who administer them. There are different requirements for dimensions of the playing surface depending on the grade of football they apply to. The SFA simply police the laws as set by others, or are supposed to, how often have seen a ref check the dimensions of a pitch? although we did have one complain about the height of a corner flag a couple of years back.
  8. Thats because they are grounds built and owned by local authority with an eye to generating revenue from pitch hires to clubs which do not have any followers. The junior clubs are simply classed like all the others as having somewhere to play their games but with no regard for any spectators.
  9. As the 'scribbling old scribe' who made you doubt your own judgement regarding the tackle that resulted in a 2nd yellow card for Phil Dolan I was going to engage you in further conversation a litle later but you had moved away. Phil has a bit of a track record of losing his cool at times but is a great player who can be a match winner when he is on his game. I think we were lucky to survive the onslaught of the last few minutes but full marks to our defence and especially the 'big no4' who has been the subject of admiring comments elsewhere, but everyone deserves praise. My only regret aboutb the game is that Salim (no9) did not score to make it eleven games in a row. I thought perhaps he might try for an OG near the end to maintain his run. I always enjoy my visits to Garngad, the first would be sometime back in the 1950's probably but for a very long time we had very few being in different league sections. There was a topic on this thread a little earlier re Scottish schools cup which St Rochs won in 1979. A former player of ours, John Donnachie, whose 1st junior club was St Rochs also won it with St Mungos' school of Coatbridge in 1961. He also has a Scottish junior cup medal from 1967 with Kilsyth, both finals played at Hampden. Not saying this is a unique achievement, probably not, but still worthy of comment. St Mungos have probably an unmatched record in this competition however, winners 9 times, finalists another 7 and semis 8. Another player we got from the Roch was Walter Lees , capped for junior Scotland (as was John D) who went to Watford so we have good reason to be grateful to them. What can you tell me about our no 8 on saturday who I believe is a former St Rochs player? Hope you can consolidate your place in the superleague this year as there is a good buzz about the club nowadays and big improvements in the ground. May or may not be visiting you next season as I still believe we have a good chance of bagging one of the promotion places, we shall see.
  10. Good to see a North Region club with a presence on here. Its become almost exclusively a West Region site with a very diminished East input. Keep it coming and hopefully a few other North fans will join in.
  11. It'll be the best pitch in the championship next season. No, hold on i think we might still be there as well!
  12. We might not win, but we will score. Salim to make it 11 games in a row. Far mor likely than Arthurlie scoring 3 at Garngad
  13. I think the SJFA wii approve the setting up of a new sructure in which it will effectively become part of the SFA and the west region will achieve the same status as the east of scotland league. There will then be no incentive for Clydebank, or any other club to leave for the east. It probably won't happen in time for season 2019-20 but the following one. Any clubs which don't fancy this setup for reasons of travelling expense or whatever, can drop into the amateur leagues which is probably the right level for them in any case.
  14. Exactly what was happening last week in the Scottish at Kilsyth. Every time a decision went against them the Meadow players were round the ref like flies round a s**t. Fortunately he was having none of it and they got what they deserved, a good hiding.
  15. Not much consideration for your own fans then, standing in a windswept cage with no cover, no hot food or drink available will not be a very attractive prospect on a day with that sort of weather. However it could be a good trhing for the chasing pack in the league table as I fancy Rossvale could get a result here, I almost wrote 'shock' but it wouldn't really be as they are a more than decent side.
  16. He is getting mixed up with his seasons Yes, I am, but the principle still holds, their thread has only reall taken off during this bad spell.
  17. I've noticed in the past when a team is not doing very well that their club thread goes all quiet. The reverse has happened here, when Larkhall were going for promotion last season there were only a few posts now they are having a disasterous spell the thread has already gone to 12 pages, I expect it will go all quiet again when they start winning a few games.
  18. The seats in the uncovered stand came from the Glasgow Garden Festival site of perhaps twenty? tears ago according to a Bens committee man. They do have plans to erect some form of shelter over them apparently. Doing so would transform it into one of the better arenas in the junior game. As for the leaves, its autumn, and thats what happens at this time of year.
  19. Your next appointment with your psychiatrist take him along with you.
  20. I do have a lot of information on junior history and Kilsyth in particular, but will not stray into matters having nothing to do with football on here.
  21. Funeral service of Jimmy Seivewright tomorrow, 26th Sept at Lambhill Crematorium. Winner of a number of junior caps with Baillieston and Kilsyth, mid 1950's. A great defender and hugely influential in our Scotish cup win in 1955.
  22. There have been a lot of big scores already this season, I don't take them as being a measure of how good the winning sides are, more a reflection of how poor the opposition has been on the day. And I am saying that with us being one of the sides that Glencairn beat heavily. We were very much understrength that day but it should not have happened just the same. A lot of teams have been very much up and down, it did not happen to the same extent a few years back, junior football was much more competitive ten, twenty years back. Now realistically there are only about six teams with a chance of winning the Scottish cup. I am actually now looking forward to the end of the juniors, it is no fun watching it die a slow death.
  23. I actually think promoted teams coming up and doing well is actually a contributory factor in the league being tight. We have it again this season, with four of the current top six being promoted sides. Promoted teams probably find it easier to hold a squad together and have a winning mentality. Teams in the league above who miss out on promotion or have struggled to avoid relegation often make wholesale changes to their squads and it can take a while for them to gel as a team. We should know that having experienced both scenarios repeatedly over the past few years.
