  1. Really enjoyed that. Well done Adam Yates. Not sure he's really a GC option for UAE, assuming Pogacar stays in, but whatever happens from here it's been a successful Tour for Adam. I think today's stage confirmed the 2 horse race.
  2. Check out the 3rd favourite to win the tournament... you can get 22/1 on Jannik Sinner .
  3. You easily tell it's fake because the apparent size of the moon is far bigger than the sun. Doesn't matter how close the moon gets to the Earth during it's cycle, or where on Earth you view it from, it's apparent size is always about the same as the sun. In addition, when there's a solar eclipse, the sky doesn't almost instantly turn black. Cool video though.
  4. I earned more than my wife for the entire time we were together, then as soon as her earnings overtook mine, she ditched me. Maybe she discovered my plan to quit work and look after the kids?
  5. Yep, the humans v dinosaurs comparison is completely spurious. Dinosaurs were a huge group of animals, not just a single species (or genus, depending on your definition of 'human'). A better comparison to dinosaurs is primates or even mammals, but that's doesn't sound as impressive.
  6. For context, those rolling off fixes now will generally have had their affordability assessed at the SVR at the time, plus a minimum of 3%. So, in theory at least, they should be able to afford a new rate of 6% as an absolute minimum.
  7. On the first point, that's perfectly feasible. She could be moving from a fix at 1% to an SVR at 8%. If the term is pretty long, the monthly payment could easily more than double. Totally agree on the second point.
  8. #Yeardle #453 https://histordle.com/yeardle/ How do you get so many holes-in-one? My success rate is 4%.
  9. Yes, very sad. I sometimes can't watch the descents, especially if it's wet.
  10. The returns weren't guaranteed on endowment mortgages though. As long as you use an FSCS backed institution, your savings and interest are guaranteed (up to £85k / £170k joint account). A better comparison to endowments would be investing the money in the stockmarket. Nothing wrong with doing that, but clearly it's a much riskier option than savings accounts.
  11. Generally speaking, overpaying your mortgage, if you can, is a good idea. Worth saying that for people in certain circumstances at the moment would be much better off not overpaying. For example, if you have a lengthy fix at a rate of say, 1.5%, and have spare cash every month you would be better off putting that into savings and earning c. 4%. Then when your fix is up, use the savings to pay off as much of the mortgage as you can.
  12. I'm hypocritical about celebrity hypocrisy. I moan when other people don't see the obvious hypocrisy in celebrities I don't like, while ignoring hypocrisy in celebrities I do like.
  13. Lenders still have to carry out stress testing, but for fixes of <5 years there was previously a current SVR +3% minimum. This requirement was removed in August last year, ie immediately before everything went tits up. For 5+ year fixes, there never was a SVR +3% minimum, but there was (and still is) an SVR minimum, as well a more woolly requirement for lenders to ensure mortgages are affordable. And don't forget it is not in the interests of lenders to have people default on payments. For a couple of months around October - December, lenders had actually increased their stress rates to more than 3% above the SVR, as rates were expected to increase even more than that. Since then stress rates have stayed broadly the same but as the SVRs have increased, the margin has narrowed. Yes, the monthly repayments would not increase by much in this scenario, because near the end of the term it's the capital repayment, rather than the interest payment, that makes up the majority of overall payment.
  14. There really nothing specific to Falkirk FC in there, it's generic stuff you could say if you want to wave a flag for any team. Here's the Stirling Albion equivalent (I love the irony of the last sentence): Subject: Stirling Albion - Building for Glory! Hey fellow Binos fans! I wanted to take a moment to talk about our beloved club, Stirling Albion, and the exciting journey we find ourselves on. It's been a rollercoaster ride of emotions over the years, but one thing remains constant: our undying support for the team. First and foremost, let's give a massive shoutout to our players, coaching staff, and everyone involved in the day-to-day operations of the club. They've worked tirelessly to represent our city and showcase the footballing talent we have. We've witnessed some thrilling matches and unforgettable moments, and I'm confident that the best is yet to come. Under the stewardship of our current manager, the visionary tactician who has instilled a new sense of purpose, Stirling Albion has undergone a significant transformation. Our style of play has evolved, becoming more dynamic, fluid, and exciting. We're no longer content with sitting back; we're taking the game to our opponents and reaping the rewards. In recent seasons, we've witnessed the emergence of several promising young talents from our academy, a testament to the club's commitment to nurturing homegrown talent. It's incredible to see these youngsters donning the Binos jersey with pride, and it bodes well for our future. The blend of experienced heads and fresh, hungry players has injected a newfound energy into the team, and it's palpable on the pitch. Of course, we can't ignore the challenges we've faced along the way. Football is a fickle game, and setbacks are inevitable. But what sets us apart as fans is our unwavering belief and support. We've weathered storms before, and we'll do it again. Together, we'll rise above any adversity and keep pushing forward. As we look ahead, there's an air of optimism surrounding Stirling Albion. The progress we've made is evident, both on and off the pitch. The club's commitment to improving facilities and infrastructure is a clear sign of ambition and long-term planning. With a state-of-the-art training facility and upgraded stadium, we're laying the foundations for sustained success. Let's not forget the role we, as fans, play in this journey. Our unwavering support from the stands is the lifeblood of the club. We've always been known for our passionate and vocal backing, and it's time to turn up the volume even louder. Let's pack Forthbank Stadium, create an electrifying atmosphere, and become the 12th man that drives our players forward. So, fellow Binos faithful, let's unite and continue to rally behind our team. Together, we'll witness Stirling Albion reach new heights. It won't be an easy path, but with the spirit and determination that defines us, we'll overcome any challenge that comes our way. Onwards and upwards, Stirling Albion! #Binos4Life (Note: This post is a work of fiction and not an actual post from pieandbovril.com)
  15. Take a bow, Cav. Nothing to match his tactical acumen and power.
  16. Well done Roglic. I can't help but think he wouldn't have dropped the chain with a normal cassette set up, but he was clearly the best on the day. That climb was insane - 5km at 15.3% Really disappointed for G though. Maybe a chance in the Vuelta?
  17. One for the history buffs. We are closer in time to the formation of the Roman republic in 509 BCE than that is to the formation of the Egyptian empire in 3100 BCE.
  18. Unlucky, my best is a mere 38. What's your average years to first guess? Mine is 79.
  19. Gran San Bernardo and the entire first half of the stage have now been removed. They're still descending the Croix de Coeur, even though there are reports of ice. Down to 75km, but still with 2 cat 1 climbs, one right from the start, so potentially still very exciting.
  20. Maybe they will resurface the Crow Road. At the weekend I saw a rider that had hit a large pothole on a bend on the descent. She was lying in the ditch, in a burn, with her clubmates calling for an ambulance. Apparently she broke 6 ribs + collar bone and suffered internal injuries.
  21. I was just listening to a post race interview with the Ineos SD and he was coughing away like a heavy smoker. Would be a real shame if a potentially great race is ruined by Covid.
  22. Carnage in the Giro today, crashes all over the place on the wet roads. One of the incidents was caused by a dog running on to the road and Ballerini sliding on the road for about 30m. Evenepoel came off on in that incident and again in the last 3km. Yet another crash at 7km. And yet one more on the line with Cav gaining a place up to 5th due to his bike being ahead of his body!
  23. #Yeardle #411 https://histordle.com/yeardle/ Strangest Yeardle pattern ever.
  24. Apparently in the 2018 Strade Bianchi, Wout had a normalised power of 369 watts for FIVE HOURS. I can do 369 watts for 3.5 minutes!
