  1. Wasn't pretty but a hard fought win will hopefully improve confidence-body language first half looked nervy today and VAR decision changed the game for us. Sylla was superb throughout but our worry going forward is how poor our strikers are at retaining possession and bringing othersinto play. I'm sure the Doc is aware of this and will be looking to upgrade going forward. Lamie coming back will hopefully steady things too. Happy days!
  2. Tried to avoid previous comments so not influenced but I said at 2-1 Dees we should be proud of performance irrespective of result. Difference between side was Shankland-don't know what it is but he just seems to dictate play and defenders stand off (or are kept off him by Shankland). Tony coukd have added fresh legs when 2-2 but difficult to criticise and I would have remove Bayako rather than Mellon but we don't know what the monitors are saying and Mellon lacks match time. Onwards and upwards
  3. I think Mr Bowyer is getting an easy ride here. He is the one who is frightened to play two upfront because he has no trust in the midfield. He is also the one telling the troops to play long balls upfront when we have many skillful players that would be more comfortable playing it on the deck through the middle. Be interesting to see what the Salford fans think of his style as in that TV show he seemed to also prefer a 'target man'. The jury is still well and truly out on GB in my view.
  4. Well played Arbroath - frailties of Dundee squad in full view. Central pairing of two cloggers and two limited ability full backs too much to bear. (Kerr fell out with Bowyer when subbed but probably picked the wrong game to do it- gave away needless foul for first goal and was skinned a few times by MoM El-M). I see Robertson getting a lot of hate but other than losing possession for 4th I felt he suffered from little support from McGee/McMullan and Williamson from sitting in the dressing room. Times change quick Mr Bowyer and tactically you were caught out today. Dundee goalie at fault for first but didn't think he had much chance with the other three- fault was not winning first headers. Usual scenario- big crowd at home and we fail to deliver. Hopefully a few fresh faces can be secured in January.
  5. Improved performance from Dees today. Hopefully Bowyer is working out 1) Sheridan can be released 2) Rudden is work in progress 3) Sweeney let them back into the game and looked hesitant for most of the game. Whether Ashcroft is any improvement is open to question so a upgraded centre half might be wise in January. 3) keeper position still up for grabs 4) Pace of Cameron and strength of Mulligan add to team (whether through impact subs or from start) All in all a more cohesive performance that can be built on v Moton hopefully with just the changes alluded to above.
  6. The coming inside of the fullbacks when defending was started in the McPake days and seems to be continuing under McGee. I can understand this if your opposition has a potent strike force but there was no need last night against a loan striker. Teams are wise to this and both Celtic at Dens (Abada) and Hibs (Cadden) just hug the right touchline and get acres of space to control the ball and run at the left back. With McGinns lack of mobility and pace combined with Marshall's lack of defensive skills this is an obvious weakness for Dundee. If multiple posters on here can see it why do they still persist with it is beyond me.
  7. Reading the posts from this evening and I see it's not just me that sees Elliott is having a mare. Never within 10 yds of the winger. [emoji85]
  8. Credit where credit is due- that was a very competent performance by the Dees tonight. In fact I don't remember them dominating a first half so much in a long time. That's the bar set - if McDaid, Mullen and Co can put a shift like that they have to do it every week. The conceded goal was an individual error but on the whole the pairing was improved. Goalkeeper who regularly gets slaughtered on here had a good game too. Anderson's performance reminded me of Kevin Mcdonald in his early years so hopefully he reaches his heights. So plenty of positives. Fingers crossed we can build on this- why change a winning team!
  9. Well McPake, That will have helped McMullan's confidence if he's not injured. Surely the immobile Sow should have come off??
  10. Hats off to the team at Raith TV. Unbiased commentary and decent content-- no real cost to making Deetv similar. (half time content not a criticism of commentator). Some goal from the fullback. Let's see if Dundee are up to the fight.....
  11. Can someone ask Charlie which end of the ground he wants his statue erected [emoji106]
  12. Where does the optimism come from? Couple of Friday beers and the past is forgotten and you feel we could roll over our Fife chums[emoji16] Will McPake ditch the three at the back plan that has caught us out previously? Will we counter Dunfermline'mobile midfield? (with our new 'box to box' find) Will our developing forward line finally 'click' and dispel the opinion that they are just a little bit meh? 'Mon to #### Dundee- please give us something to smile about in what has been (so far) a boggin year off and on the football park!
  13. Doesn't help the strikers when we very rarely get to the byline to put crosses in. Must be easy for our opposition's defenders always facing the ball. McDaid unfortunately is not the answer.
  14. Although Thistle were poor it was a competent performance by Dundee today. Hemming as usual worked his socks off and took his second really well. But hats off the Mr Berra (and Mr McPake?) as he strolled through the game and played the ball forward early so we didn't have to endure more of this tippy tappy slow build up. A welcome surprise after recent weeks but we'll done to all concerned!
  15. I don't think time is playing tricks with my mind but can anyone else remember Jimmy Murphy doing the back heel flick ('rainbow' flick today I'm told) over the head of the on rushing full back- might have been v Clyde. A pure entertainer [emoji106]
  16. Thought I was loosing my mind with all these pro-Moussa comments. Worse player I've seen at Dens and that's with a good few to choose from in 45 years. Curran started well but just lost confidence as the goal draught continued. Getting bad press as ex Arab. Perhaps we should just avoid all ex Dabs as they are on a hiding to nothing.
  17. Hopefully more a case of.... 'What a catalyst you turned out to be!'
  18. Any update on the fitness of Ethan Robson? Could do with an extra option in midfield and I spoke to some Sunderland fans recently who praised him highly. They also said in passing that he enjoys hearing the fans sing his name to the tune of The Jams 'Eton Rifles' [emoji767] Speaking of songs it's been rather quiet at Dens this season (for obvious reasons) but let's vocally back the team on Friday night as the players will respond [emoji106][emoji106][emoji122][emoji122]
  19. Is it just me but is anyone else annoyed that when you have Sportscene on series link on Virgin you have to delete this Saturday afternoon garbage show every week...
  20. Let's get everything into perspective here. That first half performance was like a proper football team- combination of skill and determination (something I never saw in the McCant era) - seeing Wright/Nelson attack at pace was a joy to watch and Curran put in a tremendous shift. Killie have greater depth of a squad and unfortunately Dees just run out legs and Killie dominated. I assume the O'Dea midfield role was due to the fact that Dundee looked like they would concede from a set piece- unfortunately he's not mobile enough for the midfield but it's more a sign of the lack of quality options available in midfield. Could have snatched it at the end but that's not the Dundee way [emoji6] Lots of twists and turns to come yet!
  21. OK that was absolute dross today but here are my observations for what they are worth: Hamilton - pulled of a few fine stops but distribution from the ground is painful. Don't know enough about it but do our central defence sense his jitters (or just slow and shite). Why is our game plan to target Jesse Curran with kick outs when he is poor in the air? Kerr- obviously had any confidence kicked out of him by NM and looks far less composed at right back than in previous years. Needs competition for this spot I believe. Could also be better if told to overlap but I think having Curran in front provides little protection. Boyle- started badly today flogging first goal and never recovered. Rarely looks assured and I've no idea why innis isn't given a run as he looks a bigger physical specimen. O'Dea- lacks pace but reads game well. Ralph=one of NMs nuggets - today's MOTM. Midfield (collectively) - lacks pace, physicality and creativity. Gowser is past it, Woods is the best of a bad bunch, Kamara looks disinterested but is good as a defensive mid. Calvin Miller puts in good crosses but defensively iffy. Curran is apparently one of the quickest players in the league but unfortunately his delivery and shooting is woeful (seems to be a favourite as should have been subbed in last two games but wasn't) Nabi offered little. Crying out for a creative midfielder. Kallman usually looks OK but looked poor today- probably not helped by the lack of creativity behind and the hoof ball tactics employed in the second half. Miller-- little opportunities today but others could learn from his work rate. Manager-- if Kamara wasn't injured then that decision backfired. When game was dead why not give Lambert a run? Punting long balls to Kallman didn't work.. Main issue today was that Saints players looked bigger, quicker and more up for it which is worrying when most will receive hundreds per week less than their Dundee counter parts. McIntyre will have to match George Soros in the dealing arena to keep the Dees up - I wish him luck.
  22. Wasn't at the game yesterday but from what I read here there was a slight improvement. I was at Tannadice yesterday and all this negativity around McIntyre made me think- you can only pish with the cock you've got and NM has left shagger particularly short in that department. Neilson has a couple of attributes at his disposal which we could do with ie someone who can boss a midfield (Fyvie) and a target man that knows what he is doing (Safranco). However the gulf between Championship football is plain to see with QoS offering very little in way of fight and Utd struggling to make clear cut chances. I think we as Dundee fans should support McIntyre until he can get in some decent players as we are all (based on what I see and what I read here) in agreement that NM has left a squad full of dross. But we all know football is a 'confidence' sport and with a win even dross can up their game in the short term (Moussa being the exception). So let's stick with it and hope/pray we get the rub of the green on Saturday and keep our season alive until the January transfer window. C'on the Dee [emoji106][emoji106]
