I agree. The missus has read the books, and has got herself caught up in the hype. She is the same with bloody Harry potter! Anyway, I havent read the books, but the films are actually not bad, much better than the usual teenage nonsense.

The Rum Diaries - Hunter S Thompson 10/10 Fantastic, an absolutly stonking book. I've been meaning to read this for ages, and finally picked up a copy last week. I read Fear and Loathing when I was 15 or 16, it didn't really do anything for me, but this book blew me away. The writing style is superb, and Thompson manages to create such a strong, vivid image in your head that you really feel the heat of the sun on your back and the rum sliding down your throat. This book is basically a fictional account, although it's easy to see that it is based on Thompsons own experiences, of a travelling journalist who finds himself in San Juan working for the local English language paper. Drinking rum from breakfast into the wee small hours, watching stunning women on the beach, fighting with the police and diving for lobsters for lunch. God, I wish I was there! Read it. Now. What are you waiting for?

Don't Say a Word - 6/10 Predictible but watchable "thriller", albeit in a paint-by-numbers style. Fairly flimsy plot line that was see through within 5 minutes, but for some reason managed to bowl along nicely. Maybe it is the fact that Brittnay Murphy nearly, oh yes nearly, flashes a nipple in one scene!

Obviously I know what a spirit is, gin, whisky, vodka, rum etc. But why does this collection of totally different drinks all come under the header of spirit, is there a particular type of distillation process that makes a spirit a spirit, or if not, then why are they different to wine, beer or cider?

No, but my inlaws went last summer with their grandkids. Total rip-off apparently, lots to do to entertain youngsters but boring as feck for the adults. Be prepared to wait in line, sometimes up to 2 hours for the rides. Take food in with you, or remortgage the house if you buy lunch there. Or, just don't go!

Thank God for subtitles. I'm really struggling to understand the language the youths in the show are using just now. Maybe it's cos I is old, innit!

It has always amused me that one of the greatest authors this country has produced, and in some peoples opinion, one of the finest ever of his genre, is almost seen as something you should be embarassed to admit to enjoying. I read Porno on my meal break at work, and my gaffer took me aside later and suggested that I find "something more suitable" to be reading at work. As an experiment, the next day I bought a copy of Maxim, read it at lunch, and no issue whatsoever!

I don't understand what it is with Dan Brown. He has shown that he has reasonable literary talent, and has produced a series of books that are essentially fairly good beach reads, but for some reason half the world is jumping up and down hailing him as the next Messiah. I consider myself a fairly well-read bloke, and I will read more or less most books, even if it's only the first few chapters to get a feel for a book. I have read a couple of Browns books, and have to be honest, they aren't bad, just over-hyped. Having watched the film adaptations, which are fairly good, I have to wonder what the critics/publicists/award-hander-outers see in his work.

Abortion is exactly the type of thing the producers would get stuck into at the moment. The show has tackled some excellent stories recently, and it wouldn't surprise me if jane kept it from Ian, and this was another angle to the story. Long live Eastenders!
