In the new set up, do we not have a performance director ? Would’ve thought match / tactical analysis would be a priority to.

It’s the Dee in him, what can you do ?
  3. Dundee United 2018/2019

My pal is a lifelong Dee and Liverpool fan. Funnily enough, he doesn’t rate Robertson at all. Wonder why ?

Think we’re in a better position compared to this time last year, with regards to league position, squad strength and manager. I feel like it’s still a new squad needing to gel a bit , but as you say have few games to do it. At the back of my mind was some nightmarish 1987 type situation of having a cup final and promotion play off to face, and losing both. Team performance was gash on Sunday but they can now focus 100% on the league which I’m happy about. Onwards.

Certainly did yesterday. Smith on the wing? That’s not where we will get the most out of him. We’ve increased the quality of the squad overall, but if he’s trying to be too clever then it won’t work on the park, and we’ll be back to square one.

The space they had was excruciating - we look so static at times it’s painful. Fyvie was really poor today - no pace , no urgency , we were completely overrun in mid field. The annoying thing is that on the few occasions we did pass the ball around we looked tidy, and linked up well. To be honest the team set up today did not work and it showed. Nielson got it wrong. Hopefully a learning experience as really, we didn’t deserve the win, and the focus has to be the league. The prospect of a distracting semi final, and the danger of an absolute pumping at a crucial time of the season wasn’t something to look forward too.

If it happens the anxiety levels for me will depend on how we get there. A strong finish, easily finishing second, piped at the post for top spot, and breezing through the play of game, with a fit and confident team would be ideal. In the scenario, we’d have nothing to fear from the Dee. Scraping through a number of play of games, picking up injuries, with a team still inconsistent, and knackered would be a total nightmare.

Maybe he’s our lucky gonk? I’m as impressed by all the players going out as those coming in. If these guys can gel and show some grit and determination, we should be able to do this. Third time lucky.

100% true. Sure, we’ve all been disappointed with the performances in some games, and after 90 minutes, we want to vent our frustration, but booing the f**k out of players after 5 minutes - give them a break eh?! We’ve got a brand new team here. Fair play to the new owners.

I do wonder what the morale is like at the moment? Robbie has brought in all this “quality’ , the existing squad will have had their feathers ruffled - and confidence shot ? Calling them out publicly hasn’t helped either. Not as disastrous as last January but we’ve made no headway with results. Next 4 weeks crucial.

    The pain is still real.

Nicky Clark do do do, do do do, do do do Nicky Clark do do do, do do do , do do do I’ll leave now .

No, no no, GD, it’s was Shergar, he kidnapped.
  14. He’s certainly got no composure in front of goal based on the absolute sitter his missed but he offered us a more direct route and a different option second half. We were a different team with him player as we had plan B, rather than the long ball options we saw in the first half. He also seemed happy to get stuck in, so isn’t a pop star, despite the hair thing. On his own he’s not going to win us the league but if....if we can bring in a few more quality players he will be part of the solution, rather than part of the problem.

What’s his form been like with the other clubs he owns? If he buys, gets bored quickly then asset strips, we have a problem. If he takes a long view, invests appropriately and supports the manager then we may have reasonable grounds for optimism. I also don’t buy the whole merger scheme. Depending on how much it costs to run Tannadice vs rent on a new ground that may be tempting, but that’s only if we don’t get promoted.
