  1. We’re talking about Scotland who can never get past the group stages and who had a song titled ‘Don’t Come Home Too Soon” as their anthem at the last World Cup they were at. Steve Clarke’s done just fine. If we do our usual and get papped out in the group stage it won’t exactly be a shock. You could pretty much write it now. Plucky performance in the opener with the hosts, where we lose to a late goal, but put in a performance that has everyone saying “do that against the other two and we’ll be fine”. Spirited draw with Switzerland. Unlucky defeat to Hungary.
  2. When East Fife still had Bayview they were relevant. Then they got that one-sided stadium they have now and became really shite. Maybe with a little Dick magic, they can get back to a standard where they become relevant again.
  3. It is a bit mind-boggling. Will there still be empty areas of the ground for this game or are they going to open the stands that haven’t been used for United fans?
  4. Is the capacity of Tannadice about 14,000 these days? It would be good to make this a sell out crowd.
  5. United have a game with Inverness first. However, there looks to some ticketing shenanigans ongoing, so might as well start the match thread to discuss those and we can move onto the game after that. I see we’ve sold out but we’ve been given 30% less tickets. The swines! I’ll just need to buy home end tickets. Give us your thoughts on the ticketing situation and the game.
  6. Not sure what United’s angle is. Are they shiteing it that a big crowd will disadvantage them?
  7. An interesting hypothesis. As someone involved with kids football, I can reassure you that we still occasionally play on pretty muddy, bobbly, uneven pitches. I had not considered that we are missing the peril of the red ash pitches, and this could be a reason for the lack of quality strikers.
  8. Like Charlie Nicholas, I’m just sitting here thinking , why don’t we produce top quality strikers anymore? Back in the ‘80s Charlie the thinker played for Arsenal, Kenny Dalglish was at Liverpool, and Steve Archibald played for Spurs and Barcelona. We are fairy good at producing wing backs / full backs and midfielders, but we don’t seem to be very good at producing great forwards in Scotland. Could it be down to modern coaching methods?
  9. If you have a kid between 7-9 years old and want them to be a Champions League Mascot for the upcoming quarter finals. Here’s a competition. Mastercard Priceless
  10. No, I’d prefer a decent surface all season. If they deal with it with continual headers, long balls, and scrappy, disjointed play, then I don’t like that so much. To be fair, some teams still take that approach even when playing on an artificial pitch.
  11. All the kids football clubs in Fife charge the people to have their kids playing football. I’m assuming adult teams are the same. With regards to football clubs wanting to exclude the community, in Rovers case, I’m not sure that’s true anymore. Our crowds are up and a lot of that additional crowd are kids who plays for the various Rovers community clubs and their families.
  12. I agree with all of your post, but just on the alternative locations thing, Rovers community clubs also play on artificial pitches at Windmill and Balwearie. I was not in favour of changing our grass pitch at Starks to an artificial pitch but it’s been a huge success. Going back to grass would be a retrograde step. Given the Winter weather in Scotland, artificial pitches are a bonus, as shown by how many clubs now have artificial pitches.
  13. I’m more likely to just give up watching top level football rather than complain to my club or the SPFL or SFA or anyone else. As long as Raith Rovers stumble about in the lower leagues, I don’t have to suffer VAR, so I only come into contact with it while watching games on TV. For the avoidance of doubt, I absolutely loathe VAR. It’s easily the worst thing that’s happened to football in the 38 years that I’ve been avidly watching it.
  14. It says Brown is missing out but he’s in the team?
  15. Who needs Cheating Ken when you have Dick Campbell.
  16. Banning artificial pitches, in a country which plays football during the winter months, when grass doesn’t grow, seems a backward step.
