  1. Training footage from this week showing Flynn playing in practice match and hitting shots at full pelt. Think we'll see him on the bench sooner rather than later. Magennis was playing too, but didn't see him striking the ball.
  2. If we're looking for a young loan player from England to replace him, then there should be plenty of options available. Although, must be difficult for a young player on his own, living the way that players have to at the moment, in an unfamiliar setting.
  3. Could be possible that he has an injury that will keep him out of Saturday's game and he's been given permission to visit his family in Iceland?
  4. My mate knows someone who supports St.Pat's in the Irish league ( whom he nearly signed for last year), who has seen a fair bit of Connolly. A physical player, with lots of pace and strength, but maybe lacks a bit in "football intelligence". Also, blows hot and cold, like many wingers, but if he goes on a good run of form, he becomes a game changer.
  5. Surgically as opposed to what other method of removal ??? A tight elastic band.
  6. Obvious answer would be that both he and Thorvaldsson are injured. Remember, Sheron missed the first game due to injury and there was no comment from the management team.
  7. You also have several St.Mirren fans saying that the follow through merited a red.
  8. That's called shiting out of a tackle, because they don't want injured. You've obviously never played football in your life.
  9. Yeah, because that's what players think when they're making a tackle.
  10. I disagree. They may not be as good at tackling as other team members, but I, and I'd imagine any manager, would expect every player to contest a ball that they have a chance of winning. Especially, when there is no other player in the vicinity. Otherwise, you are endorsing giving up possession just because a striker happens to be in the position of making a tackle. Especially in an area where a foul wouldn't really make a difference if the attacking player puts in a "forwards challenge". Certainly, Morias and Obika both work really hard and aren't afraid to tackle when required.
  11. McGrath is a good passer of the ball, but we need other midfielders to be more composed. Certainly Flynn and Magennis would certainly help in there, but in their absence, the current players need to do better.
  12. He certainly shat out of the tackle. I'd be pissed off if one of our players did that. Doesn't change the fact that the follow through was out of control and a red card eventually being issued would have been the decision of most officials.
  13. Absolutely nothing wrong with the tackle initially. Wins the ball, no straight leg. However, after contact with the ball, Shaughnessy's standing leg comes off the ground and his leading leg straightens out. We'll never know whether his momentum carried him into the follow through or whether he could have curtailed the challenge. On the strength of the follow through I can fully understand why a red card was eventually shown. It will be interesting to see how consistent referees, or indeed 4th officials, are, in applying the same principles throughout the season. The irony is that if Stewart hadn't pulled out of the tackle, it might all have been very different. C'est la vie.
  14. Just a pity Collum wasn't so vigilant during this game in 2008 .
  15. We have a squad of 24 players. Three of whom, Jamieson, Henderson and Jack were promoted from the development squad and have little or no real 1st XI experience. We currently have five players, Durmus, Thorvaldsson, McAllister, Flynn and Magennis who are injured. I'm presuming that Shaughnessy will be suspended next week and for the following game v Hibs. Unless the injured players recover we'll be down the bare bones again. We need experienced bodies, and we also need pace in our side as we don't have any forwards who have a sustained burst of speed. However, as others have intimated Goodwin has been identifying his potential targets since the turn of the year, and if one of them becomes available, he will be well placed to sign them. Having said all of that, our ball retention is absolutely shit, as we give the ball away far too easily. That needs sorted pronto, as it just invites the opposition to put us under pressure.
  16. With Magennis, Flynn, Thorvaldsson and Durmus out, we are pretty stretched.
  17. JG has stated that he wants to be more attacking this season. He'll start today, with McCarthy in , Sheron out, and Foley into midfield. The Menace said that he's only really trained once with the team. If he's shown JG that he's fit enough to start, he will start in place of Morias, as I'm sure JG will see him as part of his best first XI.
  18. Footage of training this week on official Twitter with both Flynn and Magennis taking part in training matches. Might be a bit sooner than 7 to 8 weeks before they make an appearance.
  19. As much as our results against Hamilton and Livingston have been great, we've been fortunate in that both games could quite easily have ended in draws. Alnwick has been fantastic, and undoubtedly has been a huge factor in our two clean sheets. Certainly v Livingston the defence was pretty solid. However I felt that Hamilton, particularly in the 2nd half, managed to pick holes in our defence at times. I also think that our passing could be much improved, as could our decision making when on the break. Shooting practice wouldn't go amiss either. Having said that on Saturday we played a great first half, and should have been out of sight by half time. Hopefully with Foley back in midfield on Saturday, we can be a bit more organised and competitive. With a new striker coming in, hopefully we can take more of our chances.
