Great point on the Motherwell thread, given Killie's form and the lack of contribution from KVV, it looks more like they signed him to stop him going to us rather than really wanting him in their team.

TBH he seems to be carrying an injury more than anything. Quite glad we missed out on him.

I wouldn't pay too much attention to the Motherwell thread. There's one poster who used us as an example of a club who will eventually emulate their glorious administration as apparently we're overspending.

Clearly no idea of how our club is being run these days.

No' being wide but generally speaking how has Robinson been in terms of integrating your Academy players into the first team?

TBH from what I've seen, we don't have any "match ready" academy players. Certainly none that look as good as Turnbull did or Miller does now.

Sutherland looked decent going forward in our Friendlies against the likes of Dumbarton in pre-season friendlies, but he didn't look ready to make the step up.

Fraser Taylor, who is 21, again looked good in parts in friendlies, but he also didn't look as if he would be able to step into the first XI.

Both were loaned out, to Alloa and Ballymena respectively, where they seem to be doing a decent job. Hopefully, they'll come back and be able to compete for a place in the first team squad.

Other than those two, we're not, as far as I am aware, overly blessed with academy players ready to make the step up. Although, when we've been short of senior players this season, we've had a few academy players on the bench, but I don't think any of them have made any significant contribution playing wise.

Would be disappointing to lose him before he's really been involved in the first team, other than a few friendlies.

Sadly, for the most part, that seems to be the way these things play out when it comes to young players with potential at a club like ours, who catch the eye of English premiership/championship teams.

I suppose the only positive is that he's under contract for another year.

Maybe we're trying to tie him down for longer. Although, that may prove to be difficult if his head's been turned.

Apparently he turned down both of the bigot brothers to sign with us.

There's getting it tight and there's the absolute shite posted by numerous buddies in every Dons thread this season, lacking in humour, insight or analysis, instead consisting of completely repetitive drivel with constant referencing of Miovski's penalty, which seems to have scarred many of them for life.

Aye, because your fan's contributions over the years and recently have been soooo insightful and full of humour.

As I mentioned there are a few culprits in our support that match your description, but that applies to a fair few of your own.

However, a lot of us just have a point and laugh and then move on, which is generally my approach. Although, sometimes, when I should know better, and I put my hand up here, I overstay my welcome. We've all done it.

Anyway, good luck for the rest of the season.

    Obsessed.

Whats happened to saints fans on here? A sniff of too 6 and they aboot straight to the top of the Premier League of Bell Ends.

I'm somewhat perplexed as to why some fans are mystified as to why their teams are getting it tight from our fans on occasion. I fully accept that some of our fans have gone OTT.

However we've spent years narrowly avoiding relegation or actually being relegated and have rightly taken absolute pelters for it.

Now, when the shoe is on the other foot, it seems that the fans who rightly ripped the piss out of us, can't take it when we have a dig at them.

It's the natural order of football forums and maybe some fans need to develop thicker skins and roll with it.

Granted Lex is a clown and you anything but "shat it" today, and but for the width of a post you might be in the final.

I fully expect us to resume "normal service" soon enough and have the piss ripped out of us for having a poor season. Shit happens.

You're right, but I think all clubs will have decisions they can point to that'll they'll feel aggrieved they didn't get.

That one at Ross County was pretty bad, but the reason we didn't win that game is because Gogic passed the ball to Jordan White on the 18 yard line and James Scott missed a great chance at the death.

I feel this season, that whilst we've had some really good results and given a few teams a doing, we've lost so many games. When we go behind, it's difficult to see us coming back. Kilmarnock have lost 8 games this season, we've lost 14. That's more than Dundee, Hibs and Motherwell, and the same as Aberdeen. Only 2 more than St Johnstone.

    Indeed.

Most clubs will have decisions against them that they feel hard done by and have cost them a few points.

We are where we are because, after a strong start, we've been very, very average at best.

We shat the bed (again) against Kilmarnock and they're deservedly about to bag fourth spot.

We also failed miserably against the bottom three teams and haven't really laid a glove on either of the bigot brothers.

I think we've been quite fortunate that the likes of Motherwell, Hibs and Aberdeen have been so shite at times, otherwise they'd have overtaken us. I can't see those three being as bad next season.

As much as reaching the top six is a good achievement for us, I'm disappointed that we failed to put a sizeable points gap between us and the sixth placed team and that we're not competing with Kilmarnock for fourth place.

f we get fifth place and qualify for Europe then we've had a pretty good season. Without the European spot, then I'm in the disappointed camp.

The last time St. Mirren tried to keep up with other top flight clubs was in the late 80s early 90s with absolute devastating consequences that took decades to recover from. We nearly lost our football club. We had to sell Love St to survive.
Fcuk going through that again thank you very much.

I suppose there was an element of trying to keep up with the opposition, but we weren't spending money we didn't have as we had amassed significant funds ourselves through prudent financial practice. There was no rich benefactor involved, which is very different from the situation I'm referring to today.

For the majority of the 80's ourselves and Dundee United were the two best financially run teams in the league by a mile. It was why we could afford to outbid the green bigots for the likes of Frank McDougall.

I know it seems unlikely when you look at our financial history since then, but I knew a senior SFA official at the time, which is where the information came from.

Simply put we grossly mismanaged money we actually had and ended up potless.

The final nail in the coffin was paying the likes of Archibald and Victor thousands of pounds per game.

    After that the debt spiralled.

However, you are correct. I wouldn't want our club ,in its current form, to start chasing dreams, simply because a rich individual fancies playing a less than virtual game of champ manager (or whatever the latest incarnation is called these days!).

  8. With Motherwell and possibly St.J seemingly just about to have a degree of investment to boost their coffers and Livingston about to depart the top league, it would appear that we will be the only club in the league that don't have a rich benefactor. I'm assuming Dundee United will come up and that whoever is in the play offs will see off championship opposition.

Looks like it's going to be even more difficult next season to compete financially with our competition.

It feels like his performance of late has dropped, the man was a rock earlier. Maybe the contract situation, maybe he is carrying a niggle or maybe something else but he does seem to be more prone to an error right now.

Maybe, but that can be said about the majority of his team mates too.

Given the level he's performed at this season, I can forgive the odd poor performance and any subsequent errors.

He was great on Saturday. Particularly when we were chasing the game at 2 - 1. He was the only player going forward from defence with any real urgency and meaningfulness.

However, we should pay him what he's worth to us and no more.

    P.S. It's Martin Foyle.

Shawn Rooney seems to have fallen out of favour, wonder if he fancies coming back up the road? The lad Hartridge at Exeter also looks a decent left sided centre half and is out of contract. I’m sure Martin Fowler has been putting in the miles and we will turn up some good replacements.

    Has he left Eastenders then?

Wasn't it Henderson who had a good spell at Caley Thistle, or did Jamieson have one too? Is he injured now as he seems to have disappeared from the squad after getting a decent chunk of game time. Always felt more optimistic about Offord's chances rather than Jamieson but that was based on their stats and little else.

If Gogic leaves, where do people think he'll go? Only realistic options I can see in Scotland are Killie, Motherwell and Dundee. Guess if one of them is in Europe that convince him.

I seem to remember that the ICT fans were keen to have Jamieson back on loan.

    I may be wrong..................

I think Gogic was looking at Europe the last time he signed for us, so that might be on the cards again.

Actually, despite a slow start, where he was on the bench virtually every week, in recent weeks he has actually been more involved in a Stirling Albion bid to avoid the relegation play-off.

He's chipped in with a few goals and assists in recent week and certainly seems to be a bit of a bright spark in an otherwise poor Stirling Albion side.

I think that supports my "hardly outstanding" observation.

Even Jamieson stood out for ICT at a higher level, and he's finding it difficult at the top level.

Would love him to make the step up, but I just can't see it.

I'm hoping that Fraser Taylor comes back and has matured enough to compete for a first XI place.

Looking ahead, we are likely to begin next season minus Strain, Baccus and Gogic. Thanks to these guys for their contributions in the past couple of seasons ! Each of these will be a huge loss. If they had stayed fit throughout this season, all of these would have been certain starters in every game and we can see by our mid-to-late season results (particularly when Strain and Baccus have been unavailable) that they have been sorely missed. Add to that, there will be a few others who won't be part of our first team squad for much longer (Ryan Flynn for one sadly).

Now that our top tier status has been guaranteed for 2024-25 with 6 games to spare, let's hope that our management team have already spotted  like-for-like replacements.

Many of Robinson's previous signings have blindsided most of us, having been picked up from across the Irish Sea or down south.

Just wondering if anyone has any insights into names they would like to throw into the hat ?

Hemming will be off too most likely. He's been a very important player for us.

I'd imagine that Greive and Dunne will joining Flynn in leaving.

Brown and Kwon, along with the aforementioned Hemming, will be back to their parent clubs.

Scott will be joining on a two year deal.

So, with Scott, Ayunga, Mandron, Olusanya and Jamieson, we're probably looking at only one forward coming in.

We've also got Offord, but he's hardly been outstanding on loan, so sadly I can't see him making the step up.

Being able to replace Baccus, Strain and possibly Gogic with players of the same quality is going to be our main problem.

Haven't heard anything regarding potential replacements.

There is a hard core of clueless balloons within our support that seem openly hostile towards Robinson and are looking for any stick to beat him with. Yes a few decisions he makes frustrate me (he has hung Mcmenamin out to dry playing him on the right constantly imo) but his overall record is beyond anything else in generations. I have no idea why the haters seem to hate (possibly not being a "St Mirren" man is all I can think of which in this day and age is beyond laughable) but they certainly seem to seize on every minute thing they can.

    FIFY.

    You are correct.

You can see the posts on here, usually when we lose, with barbs about Robinson or his signings, every time they post.

They don't have the balls to admit they were wrong about Robinson's appointment and makes them look very foolish. Long may it last.

P.S. I agree with you regarding McMenamin.

I’m not sure what folk are seeing in the McMenamin penalty incident, but any contact from behind however slight, is causing him to fall when he’s headed towards goal.

It’s a penalty. The fact that the clown of a ref goes to see it on the screen and then doesn’t give it, proves it’s not fit for purpose along with the match officials.

If only we'd had the Beaton and Walsh VAR combo yesterday............................................

That's one place I would not go their fans have a bad reputation. But first we have the small matter of qualification first. Killie are flying they are a definite Europe bound.

One of my mates is a green bigot fan who has been to see them v Galatasary a couple of times.

    He really enjoyed it.
