Dykes is in form now he's got his goal. Adams didn't score so his confidence will have suffered, he's out of form one might say. Let's see how Shankland does tomorrow, but as it stands Dykes is showing he wants it more, is the man in form and deserve to start against Germany.
This patter is dire. Maybe if you keep at it tho people will come round to it and give you the praise and attention you seek

The dhgate look the part but the material used is shite, it's a pure sweat box so I would advise against wearing it in warm weather
Let's face it, it's going to be close to 30 degrees in Germany in June. You're going to be sweating like f**k no matter what you wear.

Was the lamp post real or fake though?
The bulb was suspiciously big, so I reckon it was from DH Gate

Before that 150th anniversary Scotland vs England game, I was walking down to Hampden with all the crowds, and there was this roaster walking backwards, pointing at people's tops and shouting "real, real, real, FAKE!", apparently because the fake ones can be spotted by the slightly larger badges. He correctly shamed me for saving the thick end of £100. I felt broken, worthless.
Quite a satisfying ending to the tale though cos when he turned to face forwards again he walked straight into a lamp post.

I think that it has to be Fraser, for all the reasons stated.
He's tried, tested, albeit - unfortunately - tainted, but the former two things, plus his positional versatility, put him ahead of any other candidate. And all that is compounded by our manager's general preference for going with known quantities.

He has 2 starts and 12 sub appearances in the league for a total of 355 minutes, 1 start and 1 sub appearance in the cup for a total of 90 minutes, and 2 starts and 5 sub appearances in Europe for a total of 223 minutes. So I make it 6 starts, 18 sub appearances and 668 minutes in total for their first team. He also started 7 full games for their B team in the second tier but that's not quite the level we're looking for here.
Cheers for that.
Not great but better than nothing. If needs must those minutes will stand him in reasonable stead.

I think Johnston was mainly in the squad because he was suspended for the U21s anyway. He's barely getting a game at Sturm Graz so he's still a little bit away from being ready.Game time looks decent according to this - 21 appearances this season:

Not sure how many of those are 2 mins at the end of games tho.

I think this is true. I also think it's one of the reasons why we are better placed now than we have been for some years.
For a long time the Scotland team felt a bit thrown together, with no continuity. When compared with other teams our players were inexperienced at international level, had fewer caps, and it showed. They often looked like they didn't believe they belonged on the same pitch.
Meanwhile successful countries of similar size, Croatia, Denmark etc were turning up at tournaments with what seemed to be virtually the same team, year after year. These players must have gone through form dips, but they kept their place because they were established international players, and valued squad members.
We now have almost a whole team with 40, 50 or 60 caps. I think this has been a goal of Steve Clark, and I think it makes us stronger.
Though a settled squad doesn't really make for lively forum debate.
For years on here people used to poo-poo that thinking. "Aw aye, having more caps makes you a better footballer, does it?"
Actually yes, it does - in a collective sense as you describe.

Not sure the decision on who starts against Germany will be decided by club goal-scoring 'form'. That'll be your mistake, it'll be other factors.
Isn't Che Adams 'oot eh form' for Scotland anyway? He hasn't scored for Scotland in our last 16 matches (since Armenia in 2022). That's quite a drought, coming up for 2 years. These kind of arguments are the bottom of the barrel.
I actually buy your underlying point. Why cheapen it with a silly little emoji and a personal dig? The stoic mask is quite slippy, it seems

Nice article exploring Bologna's success this season, and LF's part in it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/68792661

Wether hes finished at QPR or not i couldn't offer an informed opinion.
But looking at the fan reactions to him id guess he's not playing well. He's certainly not scoring often.
So its possible he might not get much of a look in next season if they see it as an area to improve.
Sure, but with respect to the here and now - as in, the next few months running up to the end of the season and the Euros - he is and will continue to be fairly heavily involved with his club side, not "bombed out" as some are claiming on here.

I think a decent Champioship level striker is top of their shopping list for the summer.
Surely, yes. Still doesn't mean Dykes is done there

So how did he do? Can't say I watched it, but sure he ran about a bit.
When were pushing stepping onto the pitch for a below average championship team as a positive point it shows how bad it is.
Wasn't saying it was something to celebrate, was just pointing out that the "Dykes is finished at QPR" narrative is nonsense.

It's a shame Dykes is out of favour/finished/pish at QPR.
Hell just have to console himself with his start up front tonight Vs Plymouth.

Conway did go to Spain along with Bowat last June, for that summer camp before Norway away
I think he has lost his way this season, injured early on in the season but some say his best pal / house mate moving to Bournemouth has had an effect!
Would Clarke do something similar, very unlikely as he is now beyond predictable! But bringing U21’s along to the Euro’s to train and be part of the set up would imo quite a nice touch! Obviously not part of the 23 man squad but some may argue that if you can score a couple of goals between now and end of May you might get in??
I'm sure Craig Brown took some young team along to France 98’
Simon Donnelly rings a bell, maybe some others could share / enlighten us on this…..
It was Callum Davidson, Paul.Gallacher, Darren Young and Mark Burchill.
(Donnelly was part of the full squad)
Definitely an opportunity to do similar again and one that I hope SC takes.

Those are my opinions.
I've said my piece on Ryan Fraser which I wanted to do and put forward my view on confidence being overstated by fans and the media and that's enough for me.
Don't think we'll agree so happy to move on.
Quite happy for you to have opinions.
Was just trying to help you out a bit with what looked like paradoxical logic within one of them.

I think confidence is overstated as it's an intangible factor - as you know and iirc you don't agree with.
Not quite. Confidence, being a psychological trait, is inherently intangible - you can't pick up and sniff a packet of confidence (okay, maybe in certain nightclubs).
I think the point you were trying to make is that it's unquantifiable. But then, IIRC, you were quite hard-line that unlike fans, players didn't experience confidence wobbles at all (which seemed odd to me as that's basically quantifying the unquantifiable?).

This isn't football manager. There's more to take into account than just upgrading players and casting the has been's aside. Doak wasn't called up before his injury because there is a human element to managing a squad. Fans always forget that for some reason.
The manager and players aren't human though, they're superhuman! They never waver in confidence, not even a tiny bit, even after a long winless run. Isn't that right?

Robbo got 30 mins from the bench tonight and an assist for good measure. All is well with our captain, fortunately!

Start him up top Vs Germany so Clarke can get a look at him.

Scotland have won 15 out of our last 21 competitive games and 2 out of our last 19 friendlies.
No doubt tonight was extremely disappointing but you only need look at the evidence of our competitive record against our friendly record in recent years to understand where our focus lies.
I don't disagree, but at the same time it's worrying how hard we tried in last night's game - tried and completely failed. It wasn't like we were passing it about with a 'who cares' attitude. That was largely our first XI, bursting a gut, and we came up well short.

There's a few who should be off the plane after tonight but Clarke will just stick with them regardless no doubt.
More due to the reality that there really isn't anyone beyond the current squad really making a case to get in.
