Not even sure when he last started a game, never mind played ninety tbf - although he didn’t look to be tiring. He has clearly been hugely underused this season, I’m guessing Brown has done lots of defensive work with him since coming in though.

We should have won that second half tbh. Delighted to see Franny show that he does have something to offer. He won’t get much credit but McKenzie won a load in the middle of the park too. Clarke looked woeful at the first, unfortunately he is just far too limited at cross balls right now.

Given the physicality Morton have, I can understand that too tbf.

It’s literally the opposite of a Hopkin team, I would suggest. Pretty happy with it, given the circumstances. I can understand why McKenzie would play in there over Smith, against Morton and assuming McHugh is struggling.

I really don’t see what physical attributes or ability on the ball that he has that should make him a really good player tbh. He always looks absolutely woeful on the ball, has a horrific touch and is built like a rake with no pace whatsoever. He is good in the air and that’s about it. I haven’t watched him recently, so this may have changed I guess - I’ll probably make an effort to watch one of his games soon.

This game surely to f**k marks the end of Fraser Bryden starting games out wide, it has largely been painful to watch.

It’s hard to define McBurnie as a footballer, good in the air but dreadful with his feet? Like a less mobile but better goal scoring Lyndon Dykes…

I know you dislike Chalmers but c’mon… I know who I would rather bring on, there is maybe an argument to bring Smith on after sixty or so but I would be doing whatever gets Chalmers on the park. It’s obvious Brown wanted more work rate in there, with us only having two.

Went far too direct in the last twenty minutes, and completely negates having actual wide players on the pitch.

The referee very much the whistle happy, free kick and booking for everything type so far.

Okay is very generous tbh. I think his issue is that he looks like he can offer something driving from deep when there is space in front of him, but he doesn’t really get that unless he is playing as a wing back or at full back. He looks pretty lost playing at right midfield when someone is defending against him, but he obviously also looks lost defensively. He also seems to panic when he is under any kind of pressure and just plays it wherever he can.

What are you talking about? Are you trying to say that players stop developing as soon as they hit the age of 24… People are being blinded by a form dip in the second half of the season and him then being injured, he isn’t anonymous most of the time.

I think he is and we don’t actually have any idea what it would take to sign him - signing actual football players helps sell season tickets, there is potential there for resale value and if he maintains his first half of the season form for longer he is one of the best players in the league. If we don’t sign him, we certainly won’t sign anyone any better.

As is every single wide player in this league. He is a fantastic footballer, who has tons of scope to improve. A better than one in three goal return in a team that has been an utter pile of shite for most of the season.

I think it means this too, but the lack of trust in the recruitment department is entirely understandable - particularly in terms of the full back positions. I’m quite happy with a smaller team of quality, with some filler types like McAllister in reserve. Getting the quality is the main thing though.

Imagine this place when we line up with Paddy Reading and Nick McAllister in the side in the league cup…
