Apologies, I didn’t even clock that there were separate threads for each season. Just got excited that Ajax were losing again and jumped in the first thread I saw with “Dutch football” in the title.

    Completely understandable, it's very funny.

A bit late, but congratulations to Scotland for qualifying with 2 games spare, some achievement that!

Hopefully we will follow. If we beat Greece in Athens tonight we'll be as good as qualified (3 more points needed but we're still to play Gibraltar). A draw means we'd still have it in our own hands if we beat Gibraltar & Ireland (at home). A loss would mean that we have to win those 2 games and hope Greece lose to France.

Heel veel succes, that's quite the injury list Oranje have at the moment.

That's the only book of his that I have read. Poor Things and 1982, Janine are in my big pile of books yet to be read though.

That event sounds cool. Was the album good?

I read Poor Things years ago and I believe they adapted into a movie this year, 1982 is also on my pile.

The event was really good, I got to meet some of my favourite Scottish musicians and had a beer with Alan Bissett.

I really like the album pretty sure it's on Spotify, it's a nice mix of modern and traditional tunes definitely worth checking out.

Currently reading Lanark by Alisdair Gray.

Like Clockwork Orange, this is a book I gave up on years ago. Enjoying A Clockwork Orange when I gave it another go recently prompted me to give this another go as well.

I am enjoying it this time.

Amazing book, I'll need to give it another read although I'm not sure my tattered old copy will survive another read through.

I almost got to see him being interviewed live on stage, back in 2007 Chemikal Underground records released an album called Balads of the book - Scottish writers wrote the lyrics and Scottish musicians performed the songs, there's a music and literature festival in Den Haag called Crossing Borders and they were having a Scottish evening a lot of the writers and musicians involved came over to perform including Alisdair Gray, I was chatting with my mate who was working as a sound tech and he told me Alisdair couldn't find his passport so couldn't make it, I had a mental image of him rummaging through piles of of artwork and notes looking for it.

Is that riots in the street sort of stuff? They don’t exactly seem like a Fanbase that takes that sort of form lightly

Amsterdam police reported no incidents after the game, there was a large police presence in and around the stadium in anticipation of some trouble especially after what happened after de klassieker.

I'm going to be charitable and say that bands should be allowed until the end of the decade after the one in which they first became famous, before they are rounded up and sent to a gulag in Siberia.

The Stones and The Who, for example, were still releasing decent stuff in the 70s but jumped the shark as soon as the 80s rolled around.

David Bowie, Rod Stewart and Elton John all had some decent hits in the 70s and 80s but released nothing but turgid shite from 1990 onwards.

John Lennon had some great records in the 60s and 70s, but managed to avoid releasing any pish in the 80s.

I agree somewhat about Bowie but BlackStar is a masterpiece imo.

    Great day. 🤩

I was certain it was going to be flagged offside but looking at the replay Parrott looked like he was just onside ( hard to tell with the camera position though) also a really weird connection with the ball when he scored.

  8. I asked my team mates that I play with in our 6 a side league what was going on at Ajax, we'd just played a really good game - we were 4-0 down at half time but a brilliant second half performance saw us claw it back and it ended 4-4 against one of the better teams in our league, after 30 minutes of intense discussions and bickering they all turned to me and said "Stevie let's not spoil a nice evening and our decent season by discussing Ajax" so it would appear that even die hard Ajax fans are struggling to comprehend what exactly is going on.

Feyenoord scored once more in the remaining 35 minutes and got their biggest eredivisie win ever away against Ajax as a result, 4-0. As @hague correctly said, it's not their biggest win in Amsterdam ever, but that 6-1 was not a league game and I can see my source have now also corrected their record as now they clearly mention it's the biggest eredivisie win.

This result now puts Feyenoord in 3rd, 1 point off joint league leaders PSV & AZ (although both have a game in hand to be played tonight & Wednesday respectively). Ajax are down to 14th, only 2 spots & 2 points off the drop zone. Also off the pitch their problems are increasing. They sacked their sporting director on Monday, but today it's been revealed he has been involved in dodgy dealings around transfers which could spark further trouble for Ajax.

I've said it before and I'll say it again helaas pindakaas, think I'll grab some borrelnotjes ( in place of popcorn) and sit back and watch it unfold.

Going to Amsterdam first weekend in December, anything off the beaten track worth doing?

I'm looking forward to trying an edible or two as well. Does anyone who's been recommend a good coffee shop?!

    Cheers.

Stuff to do away from the centre -

Food: Foodhallen in the West of the city, it's located in the old tram depot and has 20 or so food stalls serving a wide range of cuisines, there are also a couple of bars in there, a cinema and a few shops.

Art: Straat museum set in a warehouse on the NDSM werf, large street art/ graffiti exhibition, take the ferry for NDSM located behind Centraal station ( the ferry is free ) takes about 15 minutes and you get a nice perspective of the City, there are also a few bars and restaurants in the area.

They appear to be a bit of a shambles on and off the park, the appointment of Schreuder was seen by the fans as underwhelming at best - a lot of my Dutch mates thought they should've gone for Peter Bosz who is doing pretty well at PSV, in the past their recruitment has usually been pretty decent but since they sacked Overmars ( sacked for being a creepy dick pic sending weirdo ) it's gone a bit flat, a lot of bickering in the background hasn't helped, they remind me of Liverpool a few years ago when they always seemed to employ Liverpool minded people behind the scenes, can't see Schreuder lasting long.

Ha I'm an idiot I meant Maurice Steijn not Schreuder, in my defense there's been a lot of comings and goings.

Yep, for a long time, Feyenoord were constantly a shambles on and off the park and very poorly run with much bickering, while Ajax were the stable, well-run, club. Roles well and truly reversed currently.

    Helaas pindakaas as they say
