  1. Amsterdam mayor Femke Halsema has come out with a rather bizarre statement, she's not the most popular mayor the city has had in recent years, her predecessor Eberhard Van Der Laan was really popular but unfortunately died of cancer in 2017, her husband and son were involved in some dodgy stuff at the start of her tenure and she was criticized for some of her actions during the pandemic. Anyway yesterday she announced that if Ajax win the title this season ( lol ) they can have their celebration on Museumplein, this is where they usually have their huldiging ( winning celebration) but it's been held at their stadium in recent times due to the financial cost and impact on the city centre, she's clearly trolling probably not the smartest move politically and the timing of the announcement is strange.
  2. Completely understandable, it's very funny.
  3. Maybe a good idea to merge this thread with the one for the current season and keep all the Ajax fun in one place, can't see Steijn lasting long now.
  4. VID_20231018102429.mp4 Crows are cheeky b*****ds
  5. Heel veel succes, that's quite the injury list Oranje have at the moment.
  6. I always found this rather unsettling when I was at school.
  7. I read Poor Things years ago and I believe they adapted into a movie this year, 1982 is also on my pile. The event was really good, I got to meet some of my favourite Scottish musicians and had a beer with Alan Bissett. I really like the album pretty sure it's on Spotify, it's a nice mix of modern and traditional tunes definitely worth checking out.
  8. Amazing book, I'll need to give it another read although I'm not sure my tattered old copy will survive another read through. I almost got to see him being interviewed live on stage, back in 2007 Chemikal Underground records released an album called Balads of the book - Scottish writers wrote the lyrics and Scottish musicians performed the songs, there's a music and literature festival in Den Haag called Crossing Borders and they were having a Scottish evening a lot of the writers and musicians involved came over to perform including Alisdair Gray, I was chatting with my mate who was working as a sound tech and he told me Alisdair couldn't find his passport so couldn't make it, I had a mental image of him rummaging through piles of of artwork and notes looking for it.
  9. Amsterdam police reported no incidents after the game, there was a large police presence in and around the stadium in anticipation of some trouble especially after what happened after de klassieker.
  10. The Stone Roses should've split up after they signed their million dollar deal with Geffen or when Reni left and definitely after John Squire left.
  11. I agree somewhat about Bowie but BlackStar is a masterpiece imo.
  12. Sometimes it feels like I'm taking the same photos every day so decided to get creative...." oh look there's daft Stevie filming through a toilet roll tube" Needs sound btw VID_54080726_210109_282~2.mp4
  13. Oh Roger, it's almost as if he's a jaded rock star whose eventual self-imposed isolation from society forms a figurative wall. Or something like that
  14. I was certain it was going to be flagged offside but looking at the replay Parrott looked like he was just onside ( hard to tell with the camera position though) also a really weird connection with the ball when he scored.
  15. The one positive to come out of this incident is that the protocols put in place after what happened to Abdelhak Nouri meant the team doctor was able to enter the field quickly and start the reanimation.
  16. Don't know if it's been mentioned previously in this thread but I'd highly recommend his autobiography And Away.
  17. I asked my team mates that I play with in our 6 a side league what was going on at Ajax, we'd just played a really good game - we were 4-0 down at half time but a brilliant second half performance saw us claw it back and it ended 4-4 against one of the better teams in our league, after 30 minutes of intense discussions and bickering they all turned to me and said "Stevie let's not spoil a nice evening and our decent season by discussing Ajax" so it would appear that even die hard Ajax fans are struggling to comprehend what exactly is going on.
  18. It is indeed, Glenn Howerton also looks a bit shiny.
  19. I've said it before and I'll say it again helaas pindakaas, think I'll grab some borrelnotjes ( in place of popcorn) and sit back and watch it unfold.
  20. https://dutchreview.com/traveling/cities/amsterdam/edibles-in-amsterdam/ Stuff to do away from the centre - Food: Foodhallen in the West of the city, it's located in the old tram depot and has 20 or so food stalls serving a wide range of cuisines, there are also a couple of bars in there, a cinema and a few shops. Art: Straat museum set in a warehouse on the NDSM werf, large street art/ graffiti exhibition, take the ferry for NDSM located behind Centraal station ( the ferry is free ) takes about 15 minutes and you get a nice perspective of the City, there are also a few bars and restaurants in the area.
  21. There's not enough fireworks on the planet for Ajax fans to prolong their season till they're good enough to do anything of note.
  22. My take on it is way too positive, the Amsterdam tourist department are coming at it from a different angle.
  23. Ha I'm an idiot I meant Maurice Steijn not Schreuder, in my defense there's been a lot of comings and goings.
